Eds.

This isn't meant to be a fantasy football question, but we continue to see Mbappe linked with Liverpool, even PSG's Leonardo having mentioned LFC in a statement a little while ago.

Had the player ever really considered moving to Anfield?

I don't want to kick off silly comments from the peanut gallery, and all the comments around finances.

Robbboz

{Ed002's Note - I did not know the Leonardo had said Liverpool have approached PSG about Mbappe. Obviously if that is the case, then Liverpool have found some significant funds from somewhere.}

1.) 06 Apr 2022 18:59:14
Did you not hear about our NFT’s….

2.) 06 Apr 2022 17:30:54
Tha ks for response Ed2. It was reported in early March (easy to find on Google) his statement wasn't as direct as that and he mentioned Real at the same time.

I recall something to the effect that Klopp went to Monaco to talk to the player before he signed for PSG. I take it from your response there have never been any (known) further discussions within the club, nor between the club and the player or his reps?

{Ed002's Note - I am afraid I really don’t know anything about such a statement from Leonardo. I am not aware of Liverpool speaking recently to the player. A third party who will help negotiate any move has spoken with a couple of other clubs but I am not aware of Liverpool proposing anything at this time. My understanding remains is that Liverpool would like to resolve the gap between Salah’s demands and whatever offer Liverpool has made.}

3.) 06 Apr 2022 20:53:26
Love it southern red haha.

4.) 06 Apr 2022 22:59:05
Thanks Ed2.

Are you able to say which clubs, or can we find the answer on The European page?

I'd like Salah to stay a few more years yet. We've made some good signings up front, and Bowen may be another good option but I still think we're well placed enough for him to go.

5.) 07 Apr 2022 10:20:50
Mbappe isn’t happening, end of.

6.) 07 Apr 2022 20:23:50
Wasn’t it reported around the same time he was leaving Monaco, that he went on a jet with John Henry and Mbappe family.

I’m not sure if true butt I have read that a number of times.

23 Jan 2022 17:26:24
What's happening with Saul, Eds?

Could we be looking to him?

Robbboz

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea have an option on Saul and may or may not take it up - I suspect they won't and will look to integrate Conor Gallagher instead. Another side has asked to be kept informed of the situation as we move toward the summer - none of this includes Liverpool.}

1.) 23 Jan 2022 21:10:39
Cheers Ed2.

He hasn't really done it at Chavski, I thought they'd pulled off quite a coup signing him.

{Ed002's Note - It has been a step change for the player moving to a different league. It has taken time to settle.}

2.) 24 Jan 2022 08:39:58
Chelsea "likely" not making it permanent due to other reasons (finances? ) or they are not convinced by him?

{Ed002's Note - Try the Chelsea page.}

05 Jul 2021 17:17:40
Ings free in a year. although @ 29yo might not be what we need.

Still gutted he had all his set backs whilst with us.

Robbboz

1.) 05 Jul 2021 20:58:36
This won’t be popular on here but I’d prefer a fit Ings and his undeniable finishing skills over Bobby and then Bobby either as no 10 providing assists or rotating with Ings.

2.) 05 Jul 2021 21:00:42
I could be wrong but I think city have an interest in Ings. Can any of the Ed’s shed some light on which clubs are interested in Ings?

{Ed002's Note - Try the Southampton page.}

3.) 05 Jul 2021 21:12:35
Don’t think they’ll rotate Kane often. If he does he’ll end up like Ake ie back up so may as well rejoin us and rotate with Bobby. I’d be highly surprised if we sign him though.

4.) 05 Jul 2021 21:58:37
If Kane goes, I guess Spurs could do far worse than Danny Ings.

5.) 05 Jul 2021 23:16:19
I don't see klopp looking backwards with Ings.

6.) 06 Jul 2021 00:55:45
Ings is a top bloke and a good player, but he’s also very injury prone, so it’s a no regrettably.

7.) 06 Jul 2021 06:06:44
Imagine signing Ings konate and sanchez after the injury ravaged season we have had🤣
I mean edwards has done great but this will be scissorhands moment for him.

8.) 06 Jul 2021 09:40:41
Konate is not injury prone he had one bad injury and a few niggles on return just ask VVD will no doubt have this year.

05 Mar 2021 13:28:33
Hiya.

Please don't @me if it's been done or not a reasonable ask 😬 but would it be possible for Ed2, say with those amazing detailed notes, to give a brief run down of who specifically the club is looking at in a single post - and who those players are viewed as a replacement for?

Many thanks.

🙏.

Robbboz

{Ed002's Note - Ask in a couple of weeks when I will have time.}

1.) 06 Mar 2021 06:29:45
Cheers Ed.

V grateful 🙏.

11 Dec 2015 09:15:57
Eds, hi.

Thanks for particularly great responses recently.

Any chance of getting an update on what JK's view is to our various loanees and if any might return either in Jan or beyond.

Particularly keen to hear about Markovic, Ilori, and Wisdom, but also the youngsters yet to really have a run in the first team.

Also, where's Flanno with his injury?

Ta, as always.

Rob.

Robbboz

{Ed001's Note - right now it doesn't look like anything will change with regard to those out on loan for the season. Klopp is still assessing things, both those out on loan and the options within the club. He will continue to chat with the loanees and see how they are getting on, so it will only be those who are not making progress on loan that are likely to be considered for a recall. Potentially Wisdom, though Norwich paid money for the loan, so they might not be willing to tear up the contract.

Flanno is, right now, possibly back for the busy Christmas period, but he will need to be eased back or he will suffer like Sturridge.}

1.) 12 Dec 2015 09:30:10
Cheers Ed, do you know if those three would be keen on a Liverpool return? I heard Markovic and Ilori were both very frustrated prior to their loan moves, with Ilori hoping the loan to buy option would be fulfilled.

Cheers again.

{Ed001's Note - Ilori is still considering his options, he did want out but managers have come and gone and he is unsure. Markovic just wants to play, as does Wisdom. All three would happily come back if they are going to be given a chance to prove themselves. Wisdom is particularly keen to have a future with us.}

2.) 12 Dec 2015 09:31:11
And great news about Flanno!

Question for Ed 1 and Ed 666.

. And the gallery, of course.

Salah to RM may or may not be happening, but it does sound like the club is resigned to his leaving this summer or next. Personally, I'm fine with it.

I think the club have been wise to get the new blood (Jota, Diaz) in early. If Salah stays another year then Nunez will have a bit of time bed in also before the end of this cycle.

Not trolling at all, but look at Chelsea with Lukaku and even Werner, it hasn't worked out, no transition, and now they will throw money at it again.

With Nunez coming in, do you think JK is looking to evolve our game? New format in attack? Or are we still going to look for goals from a front three, whatever form that may take?

Would Jota be a starter or are we going to look to another when Salah goes?

Many thanks for your input, always.

Robbboz

{Ed0666's Note - I think the very big transfer of Nunez gives and indication we go 4321. I really think Nunez is gonna be his Lewa at Dortmund. He’s gonna have two in midfield doing the donkey work and supporting the full backs defensively and when they go further up the field which will afford us four attackers in theory. The problem with this formation is you need your midfield to be super disciplined and savvy let’s hope Naby bucks up his ideas.

1.) 25 Jun 2022 13:10:58
Ed666. Do u mean 4231?

{Ed0666's Note - yes i wrote it at 5am so I was still half asleep mate ?

2.) 25 Jun 2022 14:33:59
One way or another it’s starting to feel like it could be a very significant season for Liverpool under Klopp.
The loss of some players who’ve played a major part in the success to date, new younger players to assimilate with a possible further evolvement of style, all set against a backdrop of a World Cup-interrupted season and continued major investment by Man City.

3.) 25 Jun 2022 15:38:40
Ed6666. Thought so! Although for a minute I thought u changing system completely to get jota into team. ?
On serious note I see u reckon we better off selling Salah now, I can see where u coming from but big risk selling mane+ salah in the same window, that's 55 goals to be replaced from last season, and goodness knows how many assists.
On the 4231 system, we certainly have the players to play it. hendo, fab, thiago and possibly morton for the 2 and elliot, jones, carvalho all can play a role in the 3.

{Ed0666's Note - The big moan for me this pre season is not signing a quality midfielder to replace Fab when he’s out. But if we play 4231 this negates the need for a fab replacement as you have Hendo. Admittedly he hasn’t the same attributes as Fab in that position but realistically which midfielder whose worth his salt is gonna come and play 10-15 games a season and be a de facto understudy? If we play this new system we have enough depth and all signs are that we will indeed Pep has intimated as such. Also don’t forget there’s 5 subs allowed now so we l see a lot of The Ox, Elliot and Jones who are all midfielders. Am I the only one that hates that 5 subs rule? For me it’s messes up the whole dynamic and flow of a game. I am not a fan at all.

4.) 25 Jun 2022 15:45:54
Yeh Juice, this is definitely the start of Klopps 2nd team now. I think it’ll be a good season, we can manage with what we already have if we change the formation to 4231, but for me if it’s the usual 433 then we need that midfielder to win the league.

{Ed0666's Note - yeh it seems they are evolving the team in two seasons. Attack first (Nunez, Carvalho, Diaz) and midfield next summer when keita, The Ox will be out of contract, Thiago getting older, Milner leaving. I think Hendo will replace Milner as the captain that doesent play too often a few cameos off the bench but commands upmost respect on and off the pitch. I think the midfield next season will see an emphatic overhaul.

5.) 25 Jun 2022 16:34:15
Yeah ed666 if we go til 4231 u can certainly see a lot of benefits on paper, whether materialises on grass is something we will have to wait for. On the 5 subs rule I think if the authorities want the top players playing 60-70 games a season I don't see much way around it.

{Ed0666's Note - still don’t line it mate. 5 subs is too much. 4 would be better for me.

6.) 25 Jun 2022 18:16:01
Don't like it as we rely a lot on building momentum. The amount of in play time is reducing already. Seemed to be a growing trend of a team pretending to be bringing on a sub and then don't or change their mind who's coming off or going on. Think it will ruin the last 10 minutes of games and should be restricted to 1 sub each after 80 minutes.

7.) 25 Jun 2022 20:20:00
Ed0666, I undersand your concerns about the flow of the game, but the other side is the 5 subs rule will not only help utilize the squad more, but probably make people understand why 25 players are needed for a squad. The Eds know more than most, how often people on these pages restrict their thinking to the starting 11 only, as if that is the only thing that matters for a match. And even if there are only one or two substitutes in a game (which happens), I think that there's more time wasting and game-flow destruction due to the players already on the field.

Given that FIFA has allowed the full reserves to be played at the next World Cup in Qatar, I'll bet you anything that this is going to start seeping into the domestic leagues everywhere, bit by bit. They're allowing a squad of 26 players, 11 of which start the game, and any 5 of the 15 remaining, can enter the game as a substitute. I'm trying to figure out what the angle is here, but haven't found one yet. Clearly the richer clubs would benefit more from this than those who are not, but would FIFA and UEFA be so open and blatant about such a bias? There's got to be something else to this.

{Ed0666's Note - soon it will be American football mate and the ethos, soul and pleasure will have gone out of the game. In the CL final I had no clue who was on the pitch late in the game. It may benefit the players but for me the enjoyment isn’t there. Four subs would be a happy medium for me. Maybe there’s no angle maybe they are looking at player welfare or maybe there is a Machiavellian side to the decision? I really don’t care to be honest because I’ll be done with football probably tje to w when klopp leaves.

8.) 25 Jun 2022 21:45:35
He's extended twice, Ed0666. Watch him do it thrice, LOL. You're stuck with the game, whichever way it is played, then. ?.

9.) 26 Jun 2022 03:14:41
What quality midfielders can we sign to replace Fabinho when he is out lol.

23 Oct 2021 01:12:55
So for bantz.

Eds 1, 2, 666.

Put aside the money and improbability of it but, having watched him skied that pena, what's your thoughts on Mbappe?

Robbboz

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen that but I don't judge players on penalties.}

1.) 23 Oct 2021 08:22:51
Good player. Not great yet. Salah better right now.

30 Sep 2021 20:53:39
Question for the Eds, 1,2, and 666 if they're all up for offering an opinion.

In light of what we're seeing at present with finances catching up with them, do you think La Liga will continue to have the draw it has done for the last few decades? Pretty much every top player has wanted to go play for either Real or Barca.

Neither club seems to be in a position to spend what they have done in the past. Barcelona seem like they're about to implode, frankly.

We've seen a fair few ayers leave for both clubs, and the question of Salah wanting to play for Real has got me to thinking - will these two still be the pinnacle for players to aspire to?

Ta muchly.

Robbboz

{Ed002's Note - Real Madrid are in decent shape and the draw of both clubs remains. But the draw of English sides has not gone away either.}

21 Aug 2021 11:42:06
Keita starting. Let's see, hope he does good.

Look at that bench tho. I can't remember when I felt like we had such depth in the squad.

Robbboz

1.) 21 Aug 2021 11:48:31
2 goalkeepers 🤔🤔.

2.) 21 Aug 2021 11:50:18
Also, Ox not in the squad today. I hope he's not injured again.

3.) 21 Aug 2021 12:01:57
Being sold, injured or simply dropped?

4.) 21 Aug 2021 12:03:55
Robbboz, spot on about the squad depth. I don’t remember having this squad depth in, well forever. As for Naby I’m not sure about him at all if I’m being honest but let’s wait and see I guess. I’m more excited about Harvey Elliott though. Glad to see him in the starting line up and can imagine he must be buzzing. Have a really good feeling that the lad could be special with the emphasis on could be. That’s if he knuckles down and learns from those around him and the coaching staff. He is just a kid so needs to be afforded time to make mistakes but I’m excited to see him grow and hopefully reach his potential.

5.) 21 Aug 2021 12:07:33
Two keepers is a waste of a sub. Excited for Elliott getting his first start.

6.) 21 Aug 2021 12:19:35
VVVV, you are absolutely correct but it also sends a clear message to Origi, Chamberlain, Shaqiri and Phillips that they only have a very short time to find a new club.

Good luck to them all.

7.) 21 Aug 2021 12:22:06
Agreed VVVV.

8.) 21 Aug 2021 12:25:08
Milner picked up a knock and both Fab and Ox are listed as being out for personal reasons, I understand Ox's partner is pregnant so perhaps she is due.

9.) 21 Aug 2021 12:26:24
Isnt OX missing due to his partner being in labour.

10.) 21 Aug 2021 12:27:12
Question is where is Origi

Surely dropped or out of here - or Klopp is p. ed.

{Ed0666's Note - yes weird that there’s two keepers on the bench but no Divvy? Maybe he’s trying to protect him in case of a transfer. Let’s hope so anyway. Not in a negative way cos I love him but I think for the sake of his career he needs to leave.

11.) 21 Aug 2021 13:16:54
really can't see any manager putting a second goal keeper on the bench to send a message to fringe players. you'd have to think there is possible movement coming.

19 Aug 2021 10:54:55
Search engine says we aren't signing Haarland "any time soon". All good with that, but has the club had any kind of interest in him? Mirror says we are frontrunners, which lead me to wonder if we'd ever considered him or talked to his reps/ etc.

Robbboz

{Ed002's Note - He was offered to Manchester United prior to moving to Dortmund and the club declined. Manchester United have no contact with his agent about the player.}

1.) 19 Aug 2021 11:01:37
There’s speculation that he’ll be at Man Utd next Summer Ed, courtesy of his links with OGS?

2.) 19 Aug 2021 11:11:34
Will OGS be at man United now that's the question.

3.) 19 Aug 2021 11:36:03
The mirror is clickbait. Why would Haaland be of interest to us if we're in a position where we have to sell to buy? 😅.

4.) 19 Aug 2021 12:00:46
GtD. No diggity, but that doesn't mean we didn't have plans pre C.V., or for further down the road.

Be interested to hear from Eds what significant targets the club had prior/ have once/ if the financial situation improves.

Would Bowen, Sarr, Troare, Bissouma, Sanches still have been where we were at? Was Saul ever a realistic consideration?

Was Haarland ever looked at?

Ed2, cheers for info but you need the Utd page for that 😜.

5.) 19 Aug 2021 13:17:51
Haaland is never going to play for us. Same as Mbappe:

6.) 19 Aug 2021 13:20:51
Juicer, not sure if that is true cos Wright before RBS played us in last CL group game, the Utd fans were going on and on about how Haaland would join Utd cos of his links with Ole and then for whatever reason, he went to Dortmund.

Therefore I’m not sure what links with Ole there still are cos if he rejected him once despite links, why would he go back to him again? Whether we are interested, I don’t know BUT I remember Ed01 said once, that he is a player we prolly want to avoid due to his severe attitude issues.

7.) 19 Aug 2021 13:55:47
so if not soon, then perhaps he will play for Liverpool later? lol
I'd love Haaland at the club as part of rebuilding the attacking line post-bobby.

8.) 19 Aug 2021 17:01:40
I'm not suggesting he will ever play for us, I'm asking if the club ever had him scouted, pencilled in as a maybe or anything else along those lines.

Why do so many on here have to run off on a tangent all the time?

9.) 19 Aug 2021 23:50:56
people go off on a tangent probably cos ed has said numerous times that he is out of our league.

{Ed0666's Note - we couldn’t afford him if he halved his weekly wages

MullingarRed. What level of teams have you headed up if a) you can't even spell naivety (predictive text even) and b) you're slumming it on here with the likes of us average, clueless folks?

That said, I can agree with most sentiments on here. £50m seems an awful lot for a player, but as both Klopp and Guardiola have said, the Saudi League has changed the landscape.

My perception is £50m ain't going to get you what it was a year ago. It's a seller's market right now.

Negotiations take time, frustrating though it is for us. I reckon Mac Allister and Szoboszlai were in the works long before we became aware. It's just that now the window is open we all want to see results. Especially now we're close to kick off.

Also, people would be saying what good business we've done of we'd got him for less than £50m. It is what it is.

Stop bleating, enjoy the ride.

I reckon a min of. 2 seasons to be competitive. That's what it took us, really.

I think he's as good an appointment as Jose, but the thing will be the relationship between the manager and the board, which is where - in my opinion - things went wrong for Jose. That and losing the dressing room. With so many players possibly moving on (1-2 seasons, coincidentally) ETH maybe has a better chance than Jose of succeeding beyond a 2nd place league finish and a Europa League because he can recruit players in his own image.

Have Utd not perhaps had to sign an agreement to not poach players, Eds?

Robbboz

{Ed0666's Note - I dont know about any agreement not to poach players I wouldn’t think so as Ajax are a selling club traditionally. Ten Hag will get rid of all the trouble makers and bring in proper professionals, player he knows/trusts so there will be little opportunity for mutiny I would have thought.

Naz, you better believe Mo would be the GOAT if he played for any of their clubs.

This is the way it goes, we all have our bias, but it's hard to see who could realistically be said to be better than him these last few seasons.

Ballon d'Or/ FIFA award just seems a farce.

I reckon we should go all out. We're pretty much guaranteed second, even if we lose, which means we can go for it today from a relatively secure position.

A draw means we're then relying on City to slip up, which they may well do but equally may not.

If we want to win the league we have to be looking for close to maximum points from here on out.

Is Villa a good shout though?

I reckon Stevie G will be a great manager in time, but going to Villa now seems a risky move.

Won't do his currency much good if they get relegated.

Better to go to a Championship team and go up than a prem team and go down if you're trying to build a rep as a manager. Cynical world that it is.
