Are we missing Emre Can a little bit this season? Not sure if we are, but just thought I'd ask the question. he did have some good moments last season?

RedJim

1.) 10 Oct 2018 06:10:14
It's a good point red Jim. Maybe we are a bit. He was a creative player as well as a defensive player. Probably the guy who got most goals from midfield bar coutinio.

I think fab is the equal and Keita better but they aren't settled the way Can was with us last season. Got to admit, I'd totally forgotten about him. Hope he is playing in turin.

2.) 10 Oct 2018 07:58:53
Good question actually RJ.
My opinion is that we’re not - at present.
Keita’s an upgrade definitely, even though he’s not totally settled in as yet, and the other midfielders have played well, on the whole, so far.

But Fabinho will be the one to compare Can with.
What very little we’ve seen of him, you’d have to conclude that he doesn’t seem an appreciable improvement on Can at all?
It’s very early days though, but this will be an interesting subject to ponder on as the season progresses.

3.) 10 Oct 2018 09:01:11
I must have missed the part where we won 6 and drew 2 of our opening 8 games with Can. Those draws were away to Chelsea and against the defending champs, nothing to see here right now.

4.) 10 Oct 2018 10:22:04
Him along with AOC had the most number of goals from midfield last season. 3 each.

5.) 10 Oct 2018 22:20:15
87red, I must have missed that part as well cos all some people want to dwell on is the games we did not win despite us having the WORST schedule of late, of every team in the division. Before the season started, all we all wanted to do is to be on City's coat tails in the table BUT you would not know it with the way people are moaning on here.

6.) 10 Oct 2018 23:57:51
Not everything is a moan, sometimes a question is just that, a question. What's the point in having a thought at all, just keep my thoughts to myself I suppose. FYI, I'm delighted with how the season is going.

7.) 11 Oct 2018 19:48:48
RedJim, I was not referring to your question. I was referring to 87red's post. I'm sure you can tell the difference.

Hi eds, not specifically liverpool related, but i was just wondering if you've ever done an article on the biggest coaches/ managers currently in the game and how you rate them? Would also like to know, outside of the main leagues, are there any managers of note that you would rate highly? Thanks, RJ.

RedJim

{Ed001's Note - that is actually on my to do list.}

First time poster, long time reader.
In my profession I see a lot of people try to do things that they're not capable of doing and it always ends in a mess. When I see a problem I can't solve I immediately call or find someone that is an expert in that area. I don't see that as a failure on my behalf, I see it as success in problem solving. I think Klopp should adopt the same mind set with our defense. I think he's a good manager but has his faults. If only he could recognise those faults I. e. the defense, he could be one of the great managers.

RedJim

1.) 30 Dec 2017 00:15:26
In a prediction to any response about any money spent on VVD, throwing money at a problem doesn't always solve a problem. Throwing money at a problem is usually the end of a project to make it successful. Success At this stage is usually dependant on luck. I hope we're lucky with VVD, or Klopp eventually recognises his weaknesses.

2.) 30 Dec 2017 01:52:18
Luck is important but there's a formula to increase it if anyone wants to
Preparation + Opportunities = Luck.

3.) 30 Dec 2017 02:33:20
VVD has to improve our defense! He has no excuses! £75 mill is not any ordinary sum however you see it. You only spend that sum on any player who could change the entire course of your team / defeciences!

4.) 30 Dec 2017 02:59:35
'Throwing money at a problem is usually the end of a project to make it successful' Throwing money at it could also be looked at as an investment mate, it can go both ways. For all we know VVD will be a flop, I highly doubt that but we never know, with today's market it was always going to be an expensive transfer and it was the first highest for a defender but it certainly won't be the last a few years from now X defender will probably be double that, like any player who joins a club to improve it, it'll either go the clubs way or it won't, that's the chances clubs take. Our defence is a problem, even with VVD added, but its stepping up, it's improving by adding him, surely? so to me, it was wise to splash the cash on him. I hope.

As for Klopp, I agree, he does have faults but so does every manager. His biggest fault is playing Mignolet every game, not the defence, he's addressing that, that's pretty evident. He / the club have just spent 75 Mil on VVD, if that's not trying to sort out the defence then I don't know what is. Saying he isn't addressing it is false.

5.) 30 Dec 2017 03:21:03
But of a self-fulfilling prophecy to say "I hope we're lucky with vvd" sounds like klopp won't win with you.

6.) 30 Dec 2017 04:55:21
Talking about VVD flopping even before he pulls on a red jersey. How optimistic!

7.) 30 Dec 2017 06:35:17
Harry, VVD did not choose his price tag, Klopp and the club did. So the person who has no excuses now that he has his man is Klopp. VVD will need time to bed in and people like u need to get off his back.

8.) 30 Dec 2017 08:15:01
As the Eds and numerous posters have said forget about the money paid for players.
I'm sure VVD price will soon be beaten and maybe by a keeper (and not by us 😁) .

9.) 30 Dec 2017 09:00:37
IB is right Vvd didn't put the price on the table Southampton an lfc did an to be honest we caused that ourselves. Get behind the bloke an back him instead of all sticking the knife in, bloody hell you'd think this money was coming out your own pockets.

10.) 30 Dec 2017 09:07:52
Jim I’ll give you a name that totally negates your argument Alex Ferguson. I’ve grown up watching football since the early 80’s so have seen the rise and fall of both Liverpool and United.

He was not able to win a League title until the 92/ 93 season, he joined in 86. The club floated on the stock market in 91 enabling Ferguson to invest even more heavily in the team and to expand Old Trafford.

I’ll give you an example, they broke the British transfer record in 89 in buying Gary Pallister for a cool £2.3m a huge amount for the time .

So you see, this coupled with the money from the Premier League was the main reason he was able to knock “Liverpool off their Perch”.

11.) 30 Dec 2017 09:50:18
Last June targets were salah vvd ok and Keita we all said no chance of landing all 4 ox turned down staying with arsenal or Chelsea Keita had loads of offers vvd last summer city they all came to us it took us a while but well done to klopp and he s board I having said this for a long time but that is brilliant transfer business.

12.) 30 Dec 2017 09:52:13
The price is purely down to market forces, supply vs demand.
We know Man City want a defender, they nearly bought Jonny Evans in the summer.
We know Man City have much more money than we do.
We know there are not a lot of tall central defenders who have pace and strength, good ball skills and experience of playing in the premier league and who are eligible for this seasons champions league.
Therefore, if you want this rare player who is wanted by one of the recently successful and cash rich rivals, you have to pay a high price.
The price doesn’t concern me one iota.

13.) 30 Dec 2017 10:20:52
United broke the transfer record in 1981 for Bryan Robson. United always backed the Manager. Continuity change the tide from Liverpool to United.
Liverpool lost influencial people like Paisley Tom Saunders, Twentymen, the Chairman Smith. players like Hansen Dalglish. We threw money at trying to get back to the top. United kept faith with Fergie and backed him. Fergie retiring and a lot of his backstaff leaving, players getting old went the same way. To build a successful team with longevity requires continuity as well as good players and money.

14.) 30 Dec 2017 11:02:41
I don’t think Harry is necessarily saying it is up to VVD to improve the defence by himself, I think he is saying that if Klopp/ LFC think he is worth £75mil then the expectation is that the addition of VVD will be the quick fix we need to improve the defence and remove the deficiencies.

How anyone can dislike a comment which states that spending that amount should fix a problem is beyond me.
If a £75 million pound player does not fix any deficiencies then someone, somewhere in the club should be sacked/ shot for wasting a massive sum of money for no good reason.

15.) 30 Dec 2017 11:03:21
are defensive record is not bad this year it has been 5 bad games Watford man city spurs arsenal Seville, apart from the city game when we was playing good till mane got sent of all the other games have been individual errors how can you blame that on klopp.

16.) 31 Dec 2017 01:07:51
Forget the price. only an idiot woild be critical of klopp and co if they deem a "quick fix" hasn't been achieved. Klopp is bringing him in long term, not to appease knee jerk fans.

Hi Ed001, thanks for the daily update. What makes Henry think he's worth so much money when he has zip experience as a manager? If his management is anything like his punditry, I wouldn't met him coach 8 year olds.

RedJim

{Ed001's Note - arrogance mate. It is that simple.}

Follow up to the West Ham game? Like 3 points away from home at a tough palace ground on a Monday night, where other teams around us will drop points. I'm delighted with a win there while some of our top lads weren't at it. Sign of title challengers which is what I'll be taking away from that game.
