Hey Eds,

With questions over Mignolets place in the squad (despite a recent uptick in form), have we looked at Lopes from Lyon as a potential target for Keeper. Good young talent, out of contract 2016, and experience in a top league. Any idea if we (or anyone else) has shown any interest?

Red 81

{Ed002's Note - Lopes won't be moving to Liverpool.}

1.) 22 Apr 2015 10:16:28
I don't see why a keeper should be one of our priorities this summer.

Mignolet has improved dramatically since xmas so why not just use ward as back up for now anyway.

Hey Eds,

Just saw an article in the express saying Arsenal have had a £6.6M offer for Pato rejected by Corinthians as they want closer to £10M. What I wanted to know was is he actually available? I thought he only went back there this year? And if so, have we shown any interest?

Thanks as always,

Red 81

{Ed001's Note - he is always injured and not very good, that is why he is available to any takers. Thankfully we have not shown any interest.}

Hey Eds,

With Lewandowskis contract up at the end of the season, who is most likely to land him (assuming he keeps running his contract down and doesn't sign an extension)? And more to the point have we shown the slightest bit of interest / had any contact about him at all?

It just seems with Lewandowzki (ST), Honda (AM), Fernando Reges (DM), and Montoya (DM) all available on Bosmans we could strengthen our squad in all the right places we need with real quality at very little initial outlay. Although to be honest I'd be over the moon with any one of those joining us at either January or the end of the season. {Ed002's Note - Aside from Lewandowski who Liverpool has shown no interest in and won't be joining, the others have been done to death. So for the final time. Honda will be joining AC Milan in January. Montoua is not a DM but has been subject to rejected offers from Napoli and a loan offer from Monaco who opted for Tavares instead. Arsenal and Inter made enquiries over the summer but Barcelona have made it clear they do not wish to sell him. Whilst contract talks with Barcelona are at a standstill because he is asking for guarantees they cannot provide, the interest of Arsenal remains. His agent has confirmed he is aware of interest from other clubs including Liverpool. Fernando has been of interest to Everton in the past but it will likely be Inter that looks to a deal in January.}

Hey Eds,

Just seen an article on Tribal Football saying we're trying to negotiate a pre contract with Montoya of Barcelona this winter to move on a free for summer 2014. Is there any truth in this or is it just wild speculation. Also any idea as to who else we have looked at as a back up option to Glen Johnson at RB - we've suffered since he's bin injured due to lack of depth there.

Thanks (as always), {Ed002's Note - Martin Montoya has been subject to rejected offers from Napoli and a loan offer from Monaco who opted for Tavares instead. Arsenal and Inter made enquiries over the summer but Barcelona have made it clear they do not wish to sell him. Whilst contract talks with Barcelona are at a standstill because he is asking for guarantees they cannot provide, the interest of Arsenal remains. His agent has confirmed he is aware of interest from other clubs including Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen, and Napoli.

I will add that this is old not new news.}

A quick question on Skrtel Eds. It was clear over summer that had injuries not occurred that we were eager to move him on. Since then he seems to have played his way back into favour, both in recent league games and I assume in training. With this in mind is the club now looking to keep him or is he still likely to get moved on either in January or next summer? It seems silly to push out a performing player, but we also have a wealth of young options in that position who need game time to flourish too. Plus we've all seen that the club has no room for sentiment when it comes to players who aren't part of the long term plan (i.e. Reina to Napoli). Just wondering if Skrtel may find himself shipped out regardless of performance this year? {Ed001's Note - nothing is decided yet, he needs to keep playing well and then he won't be going anywhere. Rodgers has even altered the formation, just to keep him in the team because he is playing well, so he has every chance of staying. But he needs to keep his mouth shut and concentrate on playing for us, instead of talking up interest.}

With it now established we have 110 million quid to spend on the right midfield player / a player we like enough, has there been any interest shown in Tonali or Kimmich from us this summer?

Kimmich feels like a guaranteed fix for the number 6 spot and could provide some much needed experience in a now very new / young midfield.

On the other end of the spectrum Sandro Tonali has a very bright future ahead of him at only 22, and has been very solid in a top European league.

To the best of your knowledge Eds, have either been looked at by us?

Red 81

{Ed025's Note - Tonali went to Newcastle mate..

1.) 11 Aug 2023 22:04:51
Kimmich would be my first choice in that position. Loads of experience and a world class player imo. Don’t know if it would be possible though.

2.) 11 Aug 2023 22:33:02
?‍♂️.

3.) 12 Aug 2023 07:03:14
Why would anyone want to live in London aver liverpool a know where I would want to live the people are more friendly and happier in good old liverpool.

4.) 12 Aug 2023 08:27:10
I disagree, Kimmich is not interested in moving from Bayern and is 10 years older than Lavia and 8 years older than Caicedo. We are trying to refresh the midfield with youth and legs, not the opposite.

5.) 12 Aug 2023 08:41:40
London. Sometimes i feel nauseous when i remember i'm only an hour away from such a wretched hive of **** and villainy.

6.) 12 Aug 2023 09:33:09
Agreed Rabh but unfortunately lots of foreign footballers seem to prefer the highlife what the London area brings.

More of a question for the Eds than a rumour.

If news in today's press about Michael Edwards leaving the club next year are true, do we have any succession plan for that, or will it simply be a case of spending the next year trying to get him to stay?

If he goes somewhere else we will have lost a massive piece of our puzzle, and whoever hires him will have made a hell of a signing.

All the best guys / girls.

Red 81

{Ed002's Note - I would expect Julian Ward will be offered the role.}

1.) 31 Aug 2021 18:17:23
Julian Ward is his deputy since Nov which means they were already planning for this in advance and he would step in if the club think he can do the job. No need to panic, OP. These guys know what they are doing.

Eds

There seems to be a bit of noise about Maguire being a target for clubs / potentially on the move this summer.

Haven't seen Liverpool referenced anywhere, but do you know if we have ever looked at that option?

I'm big fan of Gomez with VVD, but shipping out Louvren and replacing with Maguire would potentially make the best CB pairing in the Prem.

Red 81.

Red 81

1.) 12 Jun 2019 13:44:25
Well, that's something I never thought I would read, Maguire and best CB pairing in the same sentence 😁.

2.) 12 Jun 2019 13:46:15
Ridiculous. We wouldn't spend that amount of money on a reserve CB, and neither is he worth that. He also wouldn't want to move to sit on our bench.

3.) 12 Jun 2019 13:50:41
Maguire is useless. Every time I see him play he is lucky not to be red carded. Gomez, Virgil and Matip are miles ahead of him.

4.) 12 Jun 2019 14:22:06
Imagine Gomez's reaction if the human artic truck came and got a game ahead of him. De Ligt MAYBE, but Maguire?

5.) 12 Jun 2019 14:23:20
I do not want slabhead anywhere near Liverpool.

6.) 12 Jun 2019 16:17:14
Personally, I won't have Maguire for free given our current options!

7.) 12 Jun 2019 14:03:39
This type of player is the reason England will never ever progress overated and under talented.

8.) 12 Jun 2019 18:04:07
Maguire would be a very good piece of business for man utd.

9.) 12 Jun 2019 18:22:54
Can't think of a more overrated defender in world football.

10.) 12 Jun 2019 22:41:13
I know Salah is world class, but Maguire got turned inside and out, held off the ball by little 'ol Salah. yea Maguire is doing fine at Leicester and has earned a big payday at a 'bigger' club. But I hope it's not us.

11.) 12 Jun 2019 23:41:03
Maguire is terrible. Can't read the game, supremely overrated and gets caught out of position and is a ball watcher. He is just built up by the media cos he's English (Shocking, I know) . Matip all day over him.

08 Jun 2015 12:33:22
A question more than a rumour, but one i'm hoping the Eds can help with.

Rather than looking at more / new centre backs, is it possible that we will instead sign a new defensive coach? Its no secret that our defence has been shocking under Rodgers. No one cared last year as we were banging the goals in and that distracted from the problem, but without the SAS2 this season all eyes have been on our leaky back line.

The thing is none of the players are bad - Sakho looks good for France, Coates and Ilori have looked solid on loan, Louvren was a rock for Southampton, and Skrtel is tried and tested in our team. so maybe the problem is the tactics / the interception between players and tactics?

Bearing in mind a bit of clear out of the backroom is ongoing have we looked to any new senior defensive coaches to maybe address this?

Red 81

{Ed002's Note - There is no doubt that new coaching staff will be arriving. I have explained that the club will already know the direction it will want to be going with that.}

1.) 08 Jun 2015 13:52:33
Would you be open to discussing what/which direction that maybe Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - Please feel absolutely free to discuss it amongst your selves, but it is not something I want to get in to AG. I know everyone got a little damp patch with Hyppia, Carragher, Barton and Ayestaran being mentioned over the weekend, but for now it is supposition as far as I know.}

2.) 08 Jun 2015 14:18:36
Is the Barton thing sarcasm?

{Ed002's Note - Everything is supposition right now.}

3.) 08 Jun 2015 15:35:52
Ed can u at least confirm that the new coaching staff will be people with experience and not ex players. No need for names. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - The reason I don't want to get in to this is because the supporters are obsessed by wanting back people who have been at the club before. I really don't want to get in to these discussions as it easily becomes abusive with all of this "boot room" and 1970s nonsense.}

4.) 08 Jun 2015 16:26:21
It's cool ed. I have my fingers crossed for some much needed experience.

5.) 08 Jun 2015 23:15:49
I'm not. I want the right people to come in to help us. Not just an ex player for the sake of it.

6.) 09 Jun 2015 11:56:55
Hi ed002 thanks for all your hard work and honesty . just for interest sake who do u think the club should get in for the open vacancies ?

{Ed002's Note - I have no feeling about it, but would think perhaps Pako Ayestaran and Jesse Marsch could do a fine job. I don't know if Rene Meulensteen would be a viable option, but we will see. Whilst Sami Hyypia has said he wants in, I would not go down that road.}

7.) 09 Jun 2015 15:43:36
Thanks mate

There's an article on the Metro site today saying that Sneijder is considering leaving Galatasary this winter in an attempt to regain his form for the world cup. Admittedly he's not been great since going there, but if the £5mil price tag they assign is accurate that would surely be a bargain. Sneijder and Coutinho as our options for the number 10 role - yes please! So the question is Eds, are the rumours of him looking to leave accurate, and have we maintained a scouting interest in him since he joined them (i know we were allegedly interested before that). {Ed002's Note - Sneijder may well be available in January. I explained at length last year that Liverpool did not make any off for him.}
