Rumours of us interested in De Vrij is pretty cool, he's a classy player and in the last year of his contract could show value for money!

Puzzled Red

1.) 09 Jun 2017 13:53:08
He isn't that good, has injury issues and is slow, so fits in well in the Italian league.

2.) 09 Jun 2017 14:08:03
think De Vrij missed a lot of last season with a serious knee injury .

3.) 09 Jun 2017 22:15:26
His injury record through his entire career is poor.

01 Jun 2017 13:04:24
Funny, nobody seemed to mind us spending 50m euros on Roberto Firmino a few years back, but will kick up a fuss over us spending that on *insert rumoured transfer target here*.

Puzzled Red

1.) 01 Jun 2017 13:07:25
probably because we did not spend 50 million euros on him, it was around 33-35 million euros.

2.) 01 Jun 2017 13:14:28
With add ons it was €50m.

3.) 01 Jun 2017 13:18:59
If memory serves correctly, Ed002 had mentioned that after adding bonuses and agent fees, the Firmino transfer had cost in the high 40 Millions. Maybe 48-49 Million. I could be wrong.

4.) 01 Jun 2017 13:21:27
Every body did moan. Including th3 eds. I mean there was uproar for months rhat "yet again liverpool have overspent on an average player" and 5hat was only 35 mil. The same last year for mane 36 mil.

Whats happened that you all think 50 mil on an average player is acceptable.

5.) 01 Jun 2017 13:39:39
1. SusanBoyle your numbers are wrong I'm afraid. With add ons it was close to 50m euros

2. SuperMane, are you really saying Firmino is average? I despair! He's a top top player.

6.) 01 Jun 2017 14:57:58
Puzzled I think he is saying everyone was saying that at the time and in truth a lot were.

7.) 01 Jun 2017 16:11:34
you partly right that we may have to get use to spending vast sums on top targets, but for every Bale there is a mahrez who i think cost less than a million or even half that

Not saying i know what his attitude is like but he is a huge talent and cost peanuts. although quite expensive ones.

Hi Ed,

If we fail with Brandt, would we like to other left midfielders/ wingers for that position or is it that JK wants the players specifically.

For example, Lemar continues to impress for Monaco and plays in a similar role to Brandt.

Puzzled Red

{Ed002's Note - Lemar is an option Bayern Munich has also considered but Monaco don't want to lose him as they are in danger of losing others this summer. Liverpool has shown no interest in Lemar but another side who has were told they did not wish to let him go, I suggestet that Max Meyer might be an option but he is more of a Coutinho than a Brandt. Rafa Silva has again been watched by Liverpool - perhaps as a potenial option Julian Brandt. They were keen when he was at Braga and having only moved last summer Benfica would be looking for a high fee - but they do need the money and would accept a lower amount than his release clause.}

1.) 02 Apr 2017 20:08:54
I honestly cannot believe we are still scouting Rafa Silva, he is far too small for the Premier League and he isn't really talented enough to compensate for it. I am no pro scout but there so many more suitable options for the premier league out there.

2.) 02 Apr 2017 21:26:27
Rafa Silva / Lazar Markovic / Mohammed Salah. All look the same. Running all day with little to no end product!

3.) 03 Apr 2017 05:06:23
Salah has no end product? You might need to cast your net wider and have a look at other wingers than Insigne.

Rafa Silva has struggled since his move. A friend who is a big Benfica supporter tells me that while he has talent, he has struggled to apply it at Benfica since his move.

4.) 03 Apr 2017 14:02:03
Any news about Gnabry of Bremen? Wouldn't he be a good choice?

5.) 03 Apr 2017 14:06:07
Lazar Markovic is also a talent!

6.) 03 Apr 2017 15:37:36
Salah no end product? You probably need to stop being obssessed with Lorenzo and get out more to watch other wingers in the Serie A as clearly, you've never seen him play since he left Chelsea.

7.) 03 Apr 2017 17:45:37
Seriously unimpressed with Insigne.
What does Harry see in him? Bang bang average.

8.) 03 Apr 2017 18:41:32
Well Brandt dad/ agent said there is no deal in place for him to join Bayern. Hopefully that will give us a life line. I know a lot folks here are saying what is the big deal about him. You could have said the same thing about Mane when we signed him. He was not playing as well for Southampton as he had played for us, when a player for a system he can strive extremely well. You should not look strictly at stats in terms of goals and assists, but passing percentage, chances created, shot taken, and shots on target. A player could set up a 100 shots on goal, but if the end player does not finish how is that his fault.

22 Dec 2016 12:39:59
Talk about LFC looking at Gabigol (Gabriel Barbosa) - Ed would you mind shedding some light on what's gone wrong for him at Inter?

They spent a lot on money to sign him in the summer and yet he hasn't even played 90 mins yet. Was it due to the change of manager or is he simply not good enough?

Thanks and have a great Christmas holidays fella!

Puzzled Red

{Ed002's Note - He is not getting any game time and that has made him unhappy. Is is young and in a new environment and things are unlikely to change. A number of sides have shown an interest in taking him on loan - Palmeiras, Sao Paulo, Santos and Fluminense (but none from Brazil could afford to buy him nor pay his wages), Marseille, Las Palmas and Leicester. Wagner Ribeiro was in England and did speak to another English side about him. Liverpool has not spoken with his agent nor Inter about him at this time.}

I can already feel the ominous dissapointment on the site growing if/when De Boer is brought in.

A few of the pros that come to mind are:
- he's a winner (titles - albeit in a lesser league)
- European experience (champions league - although never further than second round I believe)
- Able to coach a team well under a club structure which delegates transfers and 'philosophy of play' to other staff
- Success working with younger players

Just a few that came to me

Bit of a poll on goalkeepers, what would people prefer? Option A where Ward goes out on loan or option B where Karius goes out on loan?

(a) Mignolet [1] Karius [2]
(b) Mignolet [1] Ward [2]

Personally, I'd like A but that's really because I think Ward has a suitable and beneficial loan option available with Huddersfield where he can continue developing. A loan could hinder Karius further.

Thoughts?

Puzzled Red

1.) 22 Jul 2017 14:31:27
I think Ward did enough last season to show that he atleast deserves a chance in pre season to see if he can become No.1.

2.) 22 Jul 2017 16:43:22
Andy, I don't think Klopp agrees with you.

He's not giving Ward any game time.

3.) 22 Jul 2017 17:40:43
Ward's ship has sailed and I don't expect him to be here come the end of the TW.

21 Jul 2017 12:15:24
I'm not asking if there's interest from Liverpool in this player, but imo there should be.

PSG's midfielder G krychowiak hasn't travelled with the squad and is up for sale.

He's a cracking player and would be a great fit I think and would cost a fraction of what NK could cost (if even possible to sign him! )

A great replacement for Lucas.

Puzzled Red

1.) 21 Jul 2017 12:37:17
Why would he leave PSG and a handsome pay packet to sit on our bench? The position he plays would make him 3rd choice behind Hendo and Can. Rather sit on the PSG bench and earn millions than take a wage cut to play second fiddle to two younger players. Lucas does not need replacing. We are already interested in VVD and Keita so there will be sufficient quality to make up for injuries and suspensions.

2.) 21 Jul 2017 13:16:43
We don't need anymore midfield players .

3.) 21 Jul 2017 13:48:47
Coz he better than both Can and Henderson! Ran the show against Liverpool in te EL final. Talk, strong and excellent on the ball only to benched by Verratti / Motta!

4.) 21 Jul 2017 14:08:31
Krychowiak is a purely defensive minded midfielder. Klopp wants more than just that. He wants a a No.6 with good passing range and Hendo fits that description better than Krychowiak.

19 Jul 2017 14:27:26
Trent AA has played a lot in preseason. I know this isn't always an indicator but I do think JK prefers him to Clyne.

What does everyone else think?

Puzzled Red

1.) 19 Jul 2017 15:07:04
I'm sure there were a few reports last season that Klopp wasn't a big Clyne fan - whether due to performance or attitude I'm not sure.

I could see Clyne being sold, leaving Milner and TAA for RB with Flannagan around too?

2.) 19 Jul 2017 15:13:58
clyne got injured mate.

3.) 19 Jul 2017 15:16:10
I can see TAA playing against the lesser teams when we need more width in attack as he is a lot better going forward but I can see Clyne starting the bigger games like in the Champions league because he is better defensively.

4.) 19 Jul 2017 15:18:52
Clyne is injured. Won't back back until herta Berlin game.

5.) 19 Jul 2017 15:52:04
Cheers chaps, didn't know NC had an injury.

6.) 19 Jul 2017 18:27:25
TTA as good as he looks still needs to be handled properly as he is very young and could burn out.

Clyne is injured but is still number 1 at the moment, maybe Milner will cover and be a utility player.

12 Jul 2017 11:49:51
There is a view on this page that you need a striker who can score 20+ goals in order to win the premier league.

This is not true.

I've seen a few people comment "no team has ever won the premier league without a 20 goals season striker". Wrong.

In fact, only half of all the Premier League champions since the start of the competition in 1992-93 have had a 20-goal-a-season player, 52%.

But putting the stats aside, the point is Liverpool score enough goals and our issue is defending and reducing the number of goals we concede.

Puzzled Red

1.) 12 Jul 2017 12:01:10
It's more complicated than that. In recent years it's become far more common to have a prolific scorer but when a title team have won without one the team has had a very tight defence to compensate. We certainly don't have that.

If we want to win the title we need to score more, concede less or do a mixture of both.

2.) 12 Jul 2017 12:03:34
Good post that. My only point on this would be we miss a world class finisher playing week in week out. Last season the games we lost we probably averaged 20 shots a game. A world class finisher needs half a chance and will win you them games.

3.) 12 Jul 2017 12:31:53
harry kane on 29 goals wasn't enough for spurs. football is a TEAM game and needs everyone doing their bit.

4.) 12 Jul 2017 12:52:30
Even two times 20+ goalgetters wasnt enough for us to grab it in 2014.

5.) 12 Jul 2017 13:44:13
Exactly Smed.

That year we had TWO 20+ plus! And we didn't win it because of defence.

If there is spare money available for a CF after CB and LB then by all means but not a priority.

6.) 12 Jul 2017 15:45:15
But them 2 scorers led us the closest we've ever been to the premier league title. So your point kind of falls short sorry Gents.

7.) 12 Jul 2017 16:07:42
But we didn't win it, that's whole point!

Which means it's unlikely we will win it again until we fix our defence!

8.) 12 Jul 2017 17:00:05
Agree we probably won't win it until we fix our defence. But at the same time I wouldn't turn down a 20 + a season goal scoring striker. Maybe the games we lost last year after having 20 odd shots may have turned out differently.

9.) 12 Jul 2017 17:44:41
Rather have the top trio on 18 goals each than 30-12-12. Gives a more unpredictable look to opponents, less sensitivity yo injurys.

10.) 12 Jul 2017 18:06:37
That's definitely something for the front 3 to aim for. But as it stands only 1 of our forwards who can play front 3 has ever hit 18 premier league goals and that was Sturridge 3 or 4 years ago.

11.) 13 Jul 2017 14:05:11
Its not though. Your always going to conceed. Its just always going to be apart of your game.

On the other hand. Those draws thay you get. The times yoy can't score. Tbe two months between jan and feb when we could buy a win.

A suarez uo top solves half of that, eaaily.

Your kidding yourself if yoy think we can win the league with firmino

Cou, lal, mane and firmino aren't really going to get much better than last year.

15, 13, 14 and 11. that's solid numbers for them. We finished 4th. Add auba with 30 goals a season on too of 3 of those abd where do we finish.

Wheb you say half of teans didn't have a 2o goal stiker, do you mean they had a 2o goal mid. Or the striker was on 18/ 19.

Drogba, shearer, sutton, henry, rooney, ronaldo, tevez, aguero, wright, nistel, cole, bergkamp, vardy, costa, berbatov, RVP.

then there's 20 ish goLs outputs from thr ljkes of lamps, mahrez, hazard etc

Easily put your not winning the league with 20 goals from someone.

I dobt personally see our frint line getting better outputd than last season, aa tbey where already terrific.

12.) 13 Jul 2017 14:13:04
16/ 17 - Costa 20
15/ 16 - Vardy 24
14/ 15 - Costa 20
13/ 14 - Toure 20 (plus aguero 17)
12/ 13 - Van Persie 26
11/ 12 Aguero 23
10/ 11 - Berbatov 20
09/ 10 - Drogba 29

I'm not saying we need to buy a striker - but I think one of them needs to step up, sturridge or firmino for us to win the league.
I'm also not saying a 20 goal a season player wins you the league, but there hasn't been one without since 08/ 09 (19 goals) .

I'm hearing the Navy Keita deal is now on the rocks.

We're a sinking ship right now!

3.) 06 Jul 2017 16:14:16

7.) 06 Jul 2017 17:31:11

{Ed025's Note - love it MK..

8.) 06 Jul 2017 18:18:36
Dont worry reet have a drop of port, our star-board will get the deal done.

9.) 06 Jul 2017 18:36:36

10.) 06 Jul 2017 18:37:13

11.) 06 Jul 2017 19:34:34
Why would it be on the rocks? It was never on to begin with.

13.) 07 Jul 2017 00:24:27

Agree with Max on this one.

We'd all love a world class striker but it just isn't a priority and it costs a fortune to buy the calibre of proven striker we are talking about here.

The value isn't there for that type of proven player this window. Case in point Lukakus recent mega bucks move.

That's the type of money we'd have to pay and if we're al honest that money needs to be spent on the defence.

Look, I know Robertson isn't everyone's first choice (including Klopp's), however if JK thinks he can come in and do a job for us I'm all for it.

JK has been able to develop a lot of our squad players from previous managers (Lallana, Milner, Can, Firmino) as well as work on developing new singinings too (Mane, Gini) .

If he thinks he can work with Robertson and bring him on in a similar fashion then for the rumoured cost he could be the answer.

What we need at fullback is someone that is dependable defensively and can put a ball in on his left foot. Robertson could still be that player for us and i hope we all get behind the lad if he does sign regardless of who is as fans might have wanted instead.
