Hello eds. Just wondering what you think might be in the future for Yarmolenko? I used the search and saw some chatter months back about him but I value your folks great input. Surely he is set for a big club soon but honestly what are our chances? I know you've explained our Financials but wondering if he is on our radar and whether we realistically have any shot. Big thanks for this rocky Mountain red.

PeteColo

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown no interest.

Dynamo Kyiv managed to persuade Yarmolenko not to move this past summer and managed to get him to sign a new contract. There has been interest over the past year from Roma, Spurs, Stoke, Fiorentina, Everton, Inter and Dortmund.

Bayer Leverkusen, Valencia, Napoli and Manchester City all dropped their interest and PSG, who were considering Yarmolenko as a possible option to replace Lavezzi this past summer, seem to have done the same - at least for now but there is a reasonable chance Lavezzi could move in January. Yarmolenko has expressed a desire to move to Barcelona or Chelsea - and there has been more than one approach made directly to the Chelsea to gauge their interest. Right now it looks like Barcelona are considering their options for a January bid, but much will depend for them on an entirely separate matter. Whilst an approach was made to the agent of Yarmolenko by Arsenal in the summer, nothing could be done.

He spent the summer screwing everyone around and there is still a lingering view he could do the same in January. I don't know if anything can be done or if Arsenal or Barcelona will push, but Piero Ausilio was at a recent game to look again at him - so Inter might still be in the mix.}

Thank you sir as always for the great insight and info.

Hello EDS,

I saw the bleacher article talking about players out on loan and guys like Lazar and wisdom who could be of use andor interest to Klopp. What type of contractual issues do our loaners present IF we recalled in Jan? Do you realistically see any of them coming back based on need Or will the finances dictate.

Grazie.

PeteColo

{Ed001's Note - we would have to agree a deal to end the loans with the club that have loaned them. It would really depend on if Klopp thinks they are what he needs and if they are getting games for their team. For some reason Alex Neil is not using Wisdom, even though the alternative is the worst right back in British football, Steven Whittaker, who is absolutely hopeless. So it would probably be a bit easier to sort a deal out with them.}

Red Sox (fsg owned) paid 300 milly for their star 3rd baseman. What does that mean to Liverpool and our financial situation? Not quite sure but they have been under pressure for not spending like other teams and then this happens. Interesting times indeed.

PeteColo

1.) 12 Jan 2023 20:39:32
£300 million for a fella who can catch a ball. American sports are not serious.

2.) 12 Jan 2023 21:46:24
You realize it's $300 million over 11 years right? Ronaldo has just signed a contract that pays him $200 million over 2.5 years.

3.) 12 Jan 2023 21:57:24
Ah the old complaining about another sports finances when you have no clue how it works. good one.

4.) 12 Jan 2023 22:17:20
Kloppers. If that was directed towards me, I just want to say I'm not complaining at this pointing out that FSG splashed some $$$.

Thom, I agree. As an American, I think baseball players are way over paid, whereas American football players mostly are underpaid compared to other sports, especially considering the average career is only a few years due to the physical nature of the game.

5.) 12 Jan 2023 23:59:15
$300mil per year for 11 years equates to about $27mil per year. From that perspective, it's hardly splashing the cash though, is it?

6.) 13 Jan 2023 00:52:22
Is the third baseman called I Don't Know?

7.) 13 Jan 2023 07:47:39
Apparently Who's on first base.

8.) 13 Jan 2023 07:54:36
I want to know how rich you have to be to say $27m a year for 11 years is "hardly splashing the cash" ?

For context, at the current exchange rate that would be the equivalent of signing Bellingham for a £131.4m transfer fee and then paying him £200k a week for the next 11 years until he is 30 (£114.4m in wages), for a total outlay of £245.8m!

{Ed001's Note - totally different sport though, you can't compare the salaries. Baseball teams play many more games a year.}

9.) 13 Jan 2023 08:30:42
Rugby Parker, What?

10.) 13 Jan 2023 09:03:06
OP, it means literally nothing to LFC. Different sports. Different salary setup (No salary cap in MLB) and most importantly, LFC is nun as it's own venture/ business with guys that are paid to run it. Whatever we earn at LFC is not used for the Red Sox and vice versa. Pretty simple stuff.

11.) 13 Jan 2023 09:34:53
True as that may be Ed001, if £245m is no longer considered splashing the cash, stop the world and let me off!

{Ed001's Note - it is just not relevant to the real world.}

12.) 13 Jan 2023 11:03:32
They're just ballpark figures.

13.) 13 Jan 2023 11:46:00
Nice one Rigsby ???.

Best wishes to Brightons Mwepu who was forced to retire due to a heart condition. Sad for such a premature retirement but glad it was discovered in time. Another reminder that life is precious and football is not the be all end all.

2.) 11 Oct 2022 09:30:25
Oh my goodness, what a shame. Very good player and a HUGE Liverpool fan whose dream I heard, was to play at Anfield, something he actually achieved. Good luck to you Enoch, brother.

3.) 11 Oct 2022 13:12:35
Devastating for the lad, just glad that he’s still alive to tell the tale.

Hello Eds, I have a question regarding broadcasting rights in the United States. It seems NBC premier League contract is up and they among many others (espn, az9m, etc) are fighting for broadcasting rights in 2022. I was just interested in any of your perspectives on how premier League views things as we move more and more to streaming platforms. Thanks again for all you guys do.

PeteColo

{Ed002's Note - It is about broadcast and not specifically streaming. It is negotiated centrally.}

20 May 2021 03:49:33
Okay, who is in the starting 11 for CP? Although I prefer Fabs at DM I fear the speed of zaha as Rhys is just too slow and positionaly poor. I wonder if it would be best to move fabs back, put gini at DM and let Milner handle the box to box duties with Thiago. I am more nervous for this game vs the CL final. Come over on you mighty Reds.

PeteColo

{Ed0666's Note - Didn’t Williams cope with RashFords pace against United pretty well? The kid has done miraculously with the limited talent he has and he deserves his place in the side In my opinion.

1.) 20 May 2021 05:06:36
The team pretty much picks itself right now, the only debate is who play in midfield alongside Fabinho and Thiago. I’d be tempted to go with Ox against Palace as they are likely to sit deep and he is capable of getting a goal.

2.) 20 May 2021 07:21:44
Petecole have you not watched the games this season with fabs at CB! He has to stay in midfield. We have the rock (Phillips) and Williams has done good at the back for the last few games. To chop and change the back again would be crazy unless injurys. Easiest way to stop zaha is stop him getting the ball e. i fabs in midfield.

3.) 20 May 2021 07:55:43
Agreed. It's not broken. It's brought about a massive improvement in team form. Why meddle with the team selection? Fabinho in defense is too big a price to pay. I'd go with Fabinho, Thiago and Ox in midfield, based on what I've seen from Wijnaldum in the last few games. The guy seems to be functioning in slow motion.

4.) 20 May 2021 07:56:58
Surely can't change the most in form team over the last 9/ 10 games?

5.) 20 May 2021 08:00:40
Well Williams was woeful again last night but we don't have any other options. Can't put Fabinho back there we've seen how much that effects us. Gini needs the boot though. He just slows down play. Holds on to it too long. Turns backwards when at the edge of the box. Ox deserves a go after last night.

6.) 20 May 2021 08:03:36
Zaha will be out wide on the left, I’m sure that TAA can help nullify him. I’d imagine that Phillips and Williams will be looking forward to dealing with Benteke as they’re both good in the air.

7.) 20 May 2021 08:05:05
The only change I'd be tempted to make would be Jones back in for Gini.

8.) 20 May 2021 07:24:23
Ed0666 I thought Williams has done great since he came in but the Utd game they where worse than awful. I think Zaha could cause Williams and Phillips more trouble than anybody they have faced but Palace are a lot easier side to face than Burnley. I would like a midfield of fabs Milner and Thiago to start with Milner playing on the right side to help cover . because keeping him quite to start the game stops 75% if there attack and goals will come against palace and just a 1-0 win means Leicester would need to win 6-0 and I can’t see that.

{Ed0666's Note - to be honest grino I’m not sure you can say that palace are an easier side to face than burnley because burnley are below palace in the table and i bet everyone thought wolves and Newcastle would be easier and look how we did against them at Anfield. I agree with you’re sentiments regarding Milner he has to play as Gini is looking like he’s checked out and protecting himself from serious injury to secure his bosman. Williams has been lucky for the last few games and of course he’s not the answer but let’s just have belief he can nullify Zaha because he’s all we got

9.) 20 May 2021 08:22:19
We have been unbeaten since Fab has gone back into his preferred position and those 2 guys at CB has done as well as we could have expected them to. Why are we trying to **** up something that's obviously working now?

10.) 20 May 2021 09:52:05
Williams was far from woeful. He had a decent game. Did Burnley score? No. So he did his job. He is going enough to get himself a decent loan next year as he’s proving himself capable of handling tough situations against good opponents. That cup game against United is long gone now, he’s put that right behind him and fair play to him.

11.) 20 May 2021 10:05:01
Williams is awful, I fear the worst every time the balls goes near him. The thought of palace putting Zaha up front fills me with dread.
He may the be only option we have but i can’t believe he is the best CB we currently have in our academy. It is a miracle he made it to this age and wasn’t released. Don’t think he is even a championship level player.

12.) 20 May 2021 10:31:52
VVVV did you watch the game? Burnley only didn't score because the finishing was bad and we were lucky. He missed at least 2 headers. 1 of which he completely miss judged and just left to go over his head and let their striker in. I don't mean to put him down but I just wonder about the people saying he did well and if you actually watched it.

13.) 20 May 2021 11:37:04
Ed0666 I know palace are above Burnley but I think I would prefer to play place every day of the week just because of the way Burnley play. I all so think Burnley have had a worse season with injuries than palace.
I just can’t wait for Sunday’s game to be over the last 4 games have been hell to watch I have enjoyed them on match of the day after I knew the result though.

14.) 20 May 2021 12:46:35
let's not overthink, nor over analyze it. win or lose, Nat and Rhys at the back, Fabs and thiago plus someone else in the middle, the rest pick themselves.

Like I say, win or lose, we have to put our cards on the table and trust the team. I really don't think any deserves any criticism if they don't pull it off. if we're expecting rhys to be VVD, then we're kidding ourselves. let the kid do what he can and praise him for all the good things he is doing. we can easily get bogged down in just focusing on negatives/ I'd hate to be managed by some of you folk lol.

15.) 20 May 2021 14:39:08
He looked inexperienced at times, but didn’t once go hiding. Let’s not hammer the lad. He’s the only option available and he’s doing the best he can. If he was a coward like Keita who never works and doesn’t try, then he’d deserve criticism harshly, but that’s not the case. Support the lad. He deserves that.

21 Feb 2021 01:15:37
I am a bit tired of pundits and haters saying all teams have injuries. our injury problem is utterly ridiculous. it's not an excuse it's a fact. yes we should be doing better but sometimes you have a little bit of luck. this year we have had none. We move on, we don't walk alone, take it on the chin and know for certain the tide will turn. it might not be this year, maybe no european football whatsoever. next year when our studs come back, we have that chip on our shoulder, maybe less games and we avenge the wrongs of this year. YNWA my friends!

PeteColo

1.) 21 Feb 2021 08:25:22
OP, it us the bothsiderism or neutrality rubbish the media uses to minimise the pain of a few. It is nonsense and happy Rio Ferdinand told the truth about our injury woes not being normal. Some are now comparing our injury situation to that if City of last season. See what I mean?

2.) 21 Feb 2021 09:50:17
All teams do have injuries, we have players who are always injured and kept them in the squad, so we have ourselves to blame nothing else.

Great news is true. might be a declining player but he still has some gas left in the tank and is perfect as a backup and mentor type player to all, notably o the South American players.

Ed25 I recognize your opinion of and understand why you don't think he's played well over the last few years. That's the one thing I'll point out. Beyond stats statistics is that he plays his socks off for LFC. I know there's not much room for sentiment in the business, but that is why he's a fan favorite and respected in the club versus a guy like him kieta. I'm happy to have guys like him as long as admittedly he's not getting crazy wages and his role will be more of a backup from this point on.

PeteColo

{Ed025's Note - £9,360,000 a year is not too shabby pete, he may well be a decent option from the bench but not a regular i would suggest mate, if i had his money and looks i would be the king of woolton, instead of trying to pull birds with my new chat up line..." why dont you come back to mine and i will put the heating on".. :)

Hope so, see this as a somewhat transition year with the new guys so why not bed as many future starters now while we find the balance of being competitive and moving the elders on or reducing their roles.
