With the noise coming out about the lack of quality on the bench I think we not as bad as made out to be. When you have players of the standard of Mo, VVD, Bekker and others setting the pace not many out there can keep up. Despite the evidence that they not on the same standard as those the deputies, I think they very effective in their roles. With links to Werner and DC going around one is curious how their potential moves would impact the the entire context of our squad.

OpoKaraDokia

{Ed002's Note - Carlos would only arrive as a starter - and the money involved is far more than clubs pay to have players on the bench. Players have to accept their roles change when clubs look to improve so the arrival of a starter CB would impact Gomez more than anyone else.}

1.) 19 May 2020 12:41:47
I personally think Gomez could rise to the challenge.

Of course Carlos would expect to arrive as a starter but, as you've pointed out, klopp has broken promises in the past. It would be up to Gomez to raise his level as Klopp has also shown that he doesn't pick the team based on price.

2.) 19 May 2020 13:05:13
Do you think it would be a good move for us to bring in Carlos? Is he that much better than Gomez?

Given we’ve got a HG issue Gomez is like gold dust to us.

{Ed002's Note - I think the money can be saved but I guess Klopp sees the benefit of adding an expensive CB.}

3.) 19 May 2020 14:44:44
I don’t understand this transfer if we go for it. Unless they’re are concerned about Gomez fitness levels makes no sense as Gomez on his day is fantastic and him
And VVD play well together.

Makes much more sense to go for someone like Ben white though maybe due to HG he would command a high fee anyways.

{Ed002's Note - There has been interest in Ben White but it went nowhere.}

4.) 19 May 2020 15:25:23
Maybe they think Gomez can be used to cover CB, RB and LB, so negates the need to buy back up full backs?

{Ed002's Note - He certainly has that capability. Don't lose sight of the squad size - it is not possible to keep adding players 21 or over without other leaving.}

5.) 19 May 2020 17:14:31
gomez is still 22, quite young for cb, he has plenty of time on his side and klopp knows that if we have to fight for the trophies every year we just simply cannot rely on 2 cbs besides gomes and vvd i don't think rest is matching liverpool's ambition, so yes indeed we need Dc, an injury to our keeper has cost us this years champions league and klop is kind of manager who do not want excuses no more, Gomes is good but do you guys seriously believe we should go into next season with same cbs in team thinking we can fight for league again and hopefully go further up in champions league, Dc is around 29 so yeah we need him and gomes should play supporting role for now he has age on his side, don't need to get sentimental about players, think about our beloved club players come and go all the time anyways.

6.) 19 May 2020 20:42:07
I could see Gomez playing in a three at the back with Carlos and VVD - Robertson and Arnold pushed well forward, virtually in midfield. I know they do this already but knowing those three are behind you with that pace would be immense!
Another formation is to play Arnold in midfield like we have discussed so many times before freeing up Gomez to play RB. So I do see sense bringing in Carlos, especially if Lovren leaves. If we get Carlos and Werner we will take some stopping for years to come!

7.) 19 May 2020 22:50:42
I don't think Gomez should play rb he offers nothing going forward like TAA and Robertson do would much rather see Williams cover TAA. yes I think we need to replace Lovren in the squad but the money needed to buy Carlos could be spent better in other parts of the squad. I don't see Gomez as an injury problem as much as Lovren and Matip who seem to pick up muscle injurys all the time.

{Ed002's Note - Gomez is versatile and that is great to have in a side.}

8.) 20 May 2020 03:17:13
Ben White would be the best option to replace Lovren. Very front footed versatile player (plays CB but can also cover LB and CDM) . We would be getting a Lovren replacement plus a long term Milner replacement with White. Plus he is adds to the HG quota.

9.) 20 May 2020 07:43:53
We are not playing 3 CB's with our high press, sometimes we only have VVD at the back especially when Matip goes on one of his runs.

10.) 20 May 2020 14:07:38
Much appreciation for the response. I am the belief that money could really be used a bit better. You did mention that he will only move if the once of payment is made. Have seen him play so I am curious if he is indeed an upgrade to big Joe. We can't rely solely on Joe as he is still progressing. Interesting days ahead.

11.) 20 May 2020 18:10:05
I think we are totally underestimating Gomez's ability.

12.) 20 May 2020 18:27:01
Whilst it is always good to add competition, we shouldn’t spend a large sum to bring in another top CB.

Gomez has shown time and time again that he has the capabilities to be a top class player.

13.) 20 May 2020 20:38:35
Sometimes bringing someone in as a starter can bring the best out the people who’s place has been taken. Go back 8-9 years and who then would of thought Hendo, on the verge of being essentially forced out of the club, would take a stand and go from strength to strength, and now on the verge of being the captain that brings the big trophy back to us after so long? I say try keep buying to improve and make those already here fight even harder to improve and keep their spot. That’s how winning mentality’s and footballing dynasty’s are created.

14.) 22 May 2020 11:21:40
Never seen Carlos play but honestly don't think it's a good idea to go into next season with VVD, Gomez, Lovren, and Matip as our CB's. Matip too injury prone and Lovren simply not good enough.

Gomez has bags of talent so I think he has a big future at LFC even if Carlos arrives. He can play FB and is comfortable enough with the ball to potentially play DM, if taught.

I'll say it again with no blink of a doubt, its one hell of a time to be a supporter of this team. We are witnessing something special with this lot.

1.) 22 May 2022 13:09:12
Regardless of today's outcome our players+ management have been a credit to club. New players coming in and looking part and older players showing what they've shown before many times. And always playing football the right way with the right attitude and 100% commitment.

2.) 22 May 2022 18:18:46
Still lost though.

3.) 22 May 2022 19:00:43
We didn't lose, Sobs. We finished second, Sobs.
Keep trying though, Sobs.

4.) 22 May 2022 19:08:04
Cry more and try harder, Sobsnewcastle. Your troll game is as lame as your trophy cabinet.

5.) 22 May 2022 19:43:14
Is that seriously a Utd fan trolling? Swear their team keep making me laugh, every week you think they can't get any worse but they just keep going, it's quality 🤣🤣🤣

You're welcome here anytime bud.

The FA youth cup final experience will hopefully prove to be beneficiary to those young men. Villa seem to have a good crop of balance coming through but we also aren't so far behind.

OpoKaraDokia

1.) 30 May 2021 16:18:55
I went to the final v City maybe 12 years ago. I thought then how many would make it at first team level and it was only Sturridge who at the time played for City.

2.) 30 May 2021 16:36:52
Ah well look it can't be a BAD thing that they are getting to finals. Villa are very good but in fairness i think if Elliott, Gordon and Stewart were on that pitch it would have been a different game.

3.) 30 May 2021 17:31:48
It can never be a bad thing, agreed. It will be great if one makes it to the first 11.

4.) 30 May 2021 18:05:35
For me the under age teams isn't just about winning as such. I want to see the next Fowler, Gerard, TAA etc etc coming from the under age set up.

5.) 30 May 2021 20:20:48
Sad reality is seeing how easily the better build individuals bully the rest, i would love to believe playing in front of crowed in the final will add to their progress, making it to the final couldn't have been easy.

You honesty just need to read the first few posts to know exactly what the score line was. Credit rightfully given where it's due but let's hanging in there, at the very least until a stable team can be picked. All part of football and life and no including us is immune to this.

OpoKaraDokia

1.) 29 Jan 2021 09:30:21
Spot on, OP. Let us remain humble and clear-eyed. It was a very good perf. and a much needed win BUT we are not out of the woods yet by any stretch esp. with Matip's serious injury. We keep the fighting on till the very end. YNWA!

{Ed025's Note - remaining humble would infer that you were at one point humble in the first place RM.. :)

2.) 29 Jan 2021 09:46:08
One game at a time. West Ham and Brighton next up. 2 wins and we are in a good position. Will be even better if the teams above or below with games in hand don’t get the results also. We need to just ensure of our results though and keep getting 3 points on the board. It’s very hard not to drop points in this league but over the last 6 games we’ve not given ourselves much wiggle room to drop points in the remaining games this season.

3.) 29 Jan 2021 10:04:08
Is that not two games at a time JK? 😉.

4.) 29 Jan 2021 10:28:59
JH 🤣. You’ve done me there mate.

28 Jan 2021 08:25:56
A quick to the editors and the followers, surely every team had sufficient time to meet the the HG quote and CD requirements, looking at the way way our squad is shaping doesn't look good. Its not longer a luxury going out there and getting a CB for the sake of it, but its one that that tick a lot of boxes?

OpoKaraDokia

{Ed002's Note - Teams know what the quotas are and work accordingly to meet them or, as is the case with Liverpool, have to have a reduced squad size. They will tighten up going forward so clubs need to focus better on meeting the quotas.}

1.) 28 Jan 2021 08:34:38
Thanks on the quick response, the reduced squad will definitely catch up with us, more especially when you consider the lack patience show to these kids out here, scary stuff. Keep well, bunch of top folk you lot.

Will we ever learn from past mistakes, clearly at some point it must hit home that we can not continue making enemies by pissing every other team off.

Didnt Lucas suffer some knee injury which robbed him of decent form? I could be wrong but there was a time the Brazilian fellow was playing some great stuff. Who doesn't a fair bit of Dirk? Always had an Everton and United goal in him. The Spanish right back we sold to Real was also very solid.
