I saw City being linked with Can now. I know he can’t sign a pre contract with them but let’s say he runs his contract down without signing for anybody. On the first day he is 'contractless', could an English side then sign him up or is there a cool off period?

He wouldn't get near their team and if he did I'd happily have him play against us. On his day he can be tremendous but he switches off to often in the game and yesterday he was our poorest player and looked dead on his feet.

2.) 05 Feb 2018 12:07:30
1. this is not a new link

2. of course he could sign for them on a free, there is no cooling off period - milner being a case in point

3. who cares? your message implies this would somehow be wrong of him?

3.) 05 Feb 2018 16:10:57
As soon as he has no contract with us, he can sign for any club in the world not currently banned from signing players.

4.) 05 Feb 2018 17:17:00
Hope not. He can trap it further than I can kick it. Still it will give the physios something to do now that Sturridge has gone.

5.) 05 Feb 2018 22:15:42
Who cares?

I’d rather be facing Can and Delph than Silva and De Bryune 😄.

I saw a report saying Real Madrid might be in a bit of financial trouble because of their stadium name sponsor (or something) falling through and they will need to sell players to recoup some of the €400mil, so surely they won’t be able to afford Salah? here’s to hoping anyway 😅.

1.) 30 Jan 2018 11:20:03
They'll get bailed out by the Spanish government (again) .

2.) 30 Jan 2018 11:35:50
Rumour has it that in the attacking positions they want hazard, Kane and Salah.
Spurs will probably demand a very high fee for Kane (if they let him go), and likewise Chelsea for Hazard, and we know Salahs value is going to increase hugely if he continues to play the way he has been.
The ageing (and fading) Ronaldo will ask for very large wages from any interested clubs, and the permanently injured Bale's fee will probably be in the region of £100m plus, all of which makes it difficult to envisage there being lots of takers for either player.

So you can't help but wonder how Real are going to finance a complete new forward line of world class superstars that might cost a combined £500 million.
I do wonder if even Real will have the resources to pay for all three of the stars they are rumoured to be going after this summer.
Player sales maybe?

3.) 30 Jan 2018 11:50:19
Real Madrid is the largest footballing brand in the world, they have not spent a lot of money in previous windows.

Expect them to have the cash reserves to do as they wish.

{Ed001's Note - they don't have large cash reserves, but they are able to draw on large amounts of credit to use for transfers.}

4.) 30 Jan 2018 12:15:47
Yes Ed don't they in a very leaned wording take what their future earning are and loan against those, they have done this previously with "galactico" signings haven't they.

Guess the tree has been taken down now ed?

{Ed001's Note - all clubs do that mate, transfers are never paid with from cash in the bank, except in very rare circumstances, such as a team that has had financial difficulties. One of the best sources I used to have many years ago was a 'friend' who used to be one of the decision makers on these loans for a private financial institution. She opened my eyes to a lot of the financial side of the game, and how so many businesses operate on an overdraft. I have only had an overdraft once, when the bank made an error and sent me a letter, which they charged me £7 for to tell me that I was £6.33 overdrawn due to this letter that they were sending me to tell me that I was now overdrawn. Which was confusing. What was even more confusing was that over the next few days I received about 50 more of the same letters, with a £7+interest increase in the overdraft I had due to the fact that they had sent me a letter and charged me for it. The best bit was that the bank were very 'good' about it, they told me they would not charge me interest on the overdraft but I still had to pay for the letters! I think you can imagine my reply and I immediately went across the road and opened an account with a different bank. Two days later the two banks only went and announced a merger! Sorry got sidetracked then.

Basically most businesses in Europe, whether football clubs or otherwise, tend to operate off an overdraft. Arsenal are a very obvious exception. When they need funding for something big, like a player, they see certain financial institutions for short term loans against future income, which is what she dealt with. I remember when Spurs, who were one of her clients, were hawking round Europe trying to find a striker, and she could tell me exactly how much they were willing to spend as she was the one providing the funds!

The tree got ripped down straight after we lost to Swansea. I was in need of something else to tear down after the WBA result!}

5.) 30 Jan 2018 12:17:31
Do they end up actually paying this line of credit back Ed? Seems they’ve been drawing on it for years!

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, they do, it is Barca that has built up significant and overwhelming debt burdens. However the banks are afraid to force them to repay as they would then find half of Spain would take their money out!}

6.) 30 Jan 2018 12:26:10
The report was suggesting that they would not be abandoning their transfer targets, but would need to sell to buy, now that the naming has fallen through.

The names they mentioned were Ronaldo, Bale and Isco as likely departures. I guess you can add Benzema and James Rodríguez to that. Pretty impossible to price all 5 due to each of them having some negatives due to age, wages, lack of playing time and injuries.

But Real Madrid tend to get what they want so I can see it happening. Biggest question is who can afford Fee and Wages of any of those names, certainly a big investment for any club.

So unless there is a serious change over the next 5 months losing Salah will be a serious threat. This would not just be a money move now, it would be an opportunity to be part of a new project at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Easy sell for his agent and the buying club.

7.) 30 Jan 2018 12:44:13
Was this lady "friend" a very special friend, Ed001? Was this lady "friend" our very own Ed002 or one of his many many wives?

8.) 30 Jan 2018 12:47:05
Cheers Bud as always a good insight.

Bank are great aren't they I work in finance buddy so I know the pains!

9.) 30 Jan 2018 12:58:45
Just a “friend” eh Ed? 😜.

{Ed001's Note - well yes, until she got married. Her hubby objected to her having other 'friends' after that. Miserable bugger.}

10.) 30 Jan 2018 12:52:05
I was under the impression that Madrid were after Hazard and Neymar for the wide positions and that it was Salah who asked his agent to contact Madrid, not the other way round.

Don't get me wrong, I think Madrid would be interested in Salah if they cannot get their first choice players, but I don't think he is top of their list.

Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong Eds (it's happened plenty of times before)

{Ed001's Note - that sounds pretty close to me mate.}

11.) 30 Jan 2018 13:09:31
Hazard, Kane and Salah? They won’t get all 3, probably only one, and guess which one they will get.

{Ed001's Note - Kane?}

12.) 30 Jan 2018 14:30:02
cant see them getting Hazard or Kane . and if we got a very high price for Salah, it would be very tempting for the club .

13.) 30 Jan 2018 14:38:52
It would be more tempting to me to watch them with Salah playing.

14.) 30 Jan 2018 16:50:27
Don’t Madrid own loads of land that they sell off to finance transfers? Or has that all gone now?

{Ed001's Note - they sold the training ground, massively overpriced, in a one off deal that also saw the govt give them a brand new better training ground too.}

15.) 30 Jan 2018 17:28:38
they are 'royal' madrid for a reason.

16.) 30 Jan 2018 18:33:18
You got stuffed Ed01.

when the banks were charging for "letters" a guy I know argued the toss with them that legally their time (to write the letter) was no more valuable than his and he in turn was charging them to reply to each letter. in the end he just had to pay the overdraft not the charges.

17.) 30 Jan 2018 18:42:53
Ed002 told me transfers were paid by cheque 🤨.

15 Jan 2018 17:21:19
Just saw a report pop up weirdly late, saying we have agreed personal terms with Gilson Martins (spelling) giving him 80k a week but haven't agreed a fee with his club Who want us to pay his release clause of €60mil (£53mil) but we are only willing to pay half of that .

How can we agree personal terms with the player without agreeing to a fee with the club? that doesn't make sense to me we shouldn't have permission until they accept a fee should we? xD.

1.) 15 Jan 2018 17:56:25
It's perfectly normal if it's all made up nonsense.

2.) 15 Jan 2018 18:40:20
Og red if the selling club gives permission then the buying club can talk to the player. it happens quite a lot nowadays sometimes club reaches agreement with the player but then can't reach agreement on price with club.

{Ed002's Note - Sporting has certainly not given permission.}

3.) 15 Jan 2018 18:48:38
Ed002 I was by no way insinuating they had, just saying that permission is granted sometimes before a deal has been struck between clubs.

4.) 15 Jan 2018 19:14:30
Don't worry ed2. That's never stopped us before.

5.) 15 Jan 2018 19:17:57
Well, Sporting will get a massive pay day letting Martins leave and must be what they are aiming for.

{Ed002's Note - They are not looking to sell right now.}

Have not seen this posted and did search, when I got home from work I saw the worst rumour ever.

Apparently we have offered Coutinho a new contract to try and keep him at least until summer.
Bumper pay and CAPTAINCY promise? Please stay, we'll make you captain. Seriously? 😂
On the 0.0000001% chance this is true, have you heard anything of the sort?
Seems like the most ridiculous bit of journalism to me 😂.

It was never about money or the clubs commitment and trust in him. He's been here for about five years, and won about **** all. He had his head turned by Barcelona and the glamour, fame and fortune.

4.) 04 Jan 2018 18:47:43
I imagine it’s complete garbage.

Stoneage, that’s like saying they should all be able to use their weaker foot. Kind of seems they skip the basics (weaker foot, long shooting and DEFENDING) to mostly focus on fitness, passing, movement (and more) which is IMO ridiculous that they can’t do the basics considering the money they get paid xD

The Ox has got a cracking long shot on him sometimes, but his are more driven low with huge power than fly over the top of a whole team into the top corner, which is what we need for PTB teams.

well, time to watch wba's games because i really miss and want to see 'the sturridge dance' and i think there training will be a lot less intense than ours so he may be able to be fit for a lot more games than he would with us lol.

Madrid are kind of on a downward spiral and I can’t see Klopp selling Salah until at least the end of NEXT season, and hopefully Madrid keep spiralling down so they aren't as much as an attractive proposition xD

There defense and midfield is still amazing but their attacking options are getting on a bit now and as proven this season, they are apparently human (Mainly Ronaldo) and are not performing to expextations.
He is 33 next month an by the end of the next season, 35. 😅
Bale kinda seems to have been done in a bit with his injuries but he’s still class, Benzema looks to be done too.

And, mainly, everybody seems to want to go to Barcelona instead of Madrid lately.

I could be completely wrong with this post like, heck Ronaldo will get his form back and then could prove he is inhuman again and continue at his top level until he's 40 😂.

The weird thing is, teams who park the bus against us do it very well. But let’s say the final 5 minutes of some games (like against Citeh) when we kind of park the bus and have most players back, we are shocking at it. Yet we make the teams at the bottom look bloody amazing at it xD.

One of our major downfalls is when we try to sit back and see a game out because it doesn't work for us, i’d rather we kept going mental until the final whistle lol

Carvalhal's analogy of us was pretty fantastic IMO so it clearly was a game plan 😓.

Gini plays amazing once every 4 or 5 games, luckily this was one of those xD he'll be missing for the next few if on the pitch we won’t realize he actually is.

Really needs to sort his consistency out and he would be a decent player.

Y'all are forgetting 1 major factor.
The game is home. There is no way in hell Klopp would want to disappoint the Anfield faithful by putting out a bit part team and possibly losing in such a big competition even if we still progressed.

I hope Lovren replaces Matip, he annoyed me so damn much last game whereas Lovren seems slightly 'sturdier' (lightly used) when partnered with VVD

Also hasn’t Bobby got 12 in his last 15 games? If he can keep this form up, over 37 games that is 29 goals isn’t it? xD so yeah OP is right in saying we have 2 20+ers XD.

i’m not sure you mean "average spend". if the average is 27mil then that 2+ seasons ago would have been a high amount.
If you mean net spend, leave it lol.
