After watching our last few matches it is really clear to me that Emre Can has everything that Steven Gerrard has lost over the last few years.
Energy, Effect on a game, speed of play, Directness, fear in opponents and even passion to some extent. The fact is I am really hoping Gerrard doesn't start against Everton, we are a much better side without him in it. Unfortunately he has gone on one season too many and is nowhere near the player he used to be.
Sentiment aside I support LFC not Steven Gerrard, he has been great, he will be forever up there with Kenny in supporters eyes, but we move on, we always move on and the time to move on is now, not in 4 months time.
Can is the man to fill his spot once we sort out our defence longer term.

I was hoping Ilori was the man to fill that right CB side of defense - especially with his pace. That would allow Can to move up.

But I fear that Ed002 may think that Ilori is so hacked-off with Liverpool that he may leave after the loan?

But Wisdom will be good too.

2.) I'd rather it was Ilori, a work mate of mine is a baggies fan and he isn't impressed with Wisdom. says he has poor concentration and easily turned.

Ilori has had many injury problems and has struggled at his loan clubs. It just hasn't worked out for him and I wouldn't mind if he leaves this summer.

While most of the fans on here will crow about Stevie the Legend etc. a few who see the bigger picture will see today as a good day.
A great player will leave our club, a true Legend with years of fantastic service. But, he hasn't been that player for some time, has too much say on what goes on and in fact has been holding the team back from performing at its peak.
It used to be said that Stevie could play in any position and be "world Class" (I certainly agree) but we have been finding him a spot to play in as opposed to him deserving a starting spot for some time which just shows how his powers have waned.
I believe that if we use Stevie less our performances will improve, players that defer to him will start to take responsibility and the club will move forward. We do have some very talented footballers at our club they just need to be played in a flowing team to maximise their potential.

Mr Chump

1.) Stevie is the best player we have .name me a better player at liverpool now .

2.) Hopw about:

Coutinho
Lallana
Sterling
Sturridge
Henderson
Can
Sahko
Moreno. not to mention one or two from the youth set up who could be in a year or two

Stevie G will always be a legend, but great player now he is not. I hope he has some fun across the pond and bumps up his pension fund doing so. let's look to the future and build a great 'team' (which I think we can be) to challenge for silverware this year and the title again next season!

3.) Devon red, I will bet you not one of those players mentioned are on a par with Stevie coutinho the only one that might get a mention but let see in 2/3 years . And as for the other don't be surprised if half of them won't be liverpool players in 2 years .one other quick point we would have lost yesterday if it wasnt for Stevie carm and collected .pure class the only english player I see that has similarities to gerrard at the moment is inLiverpool but plays for bluenoses .Ross Barkley .

4.) 02 Jan 2015 12:22:24
The fact that you no longer have to hang out with a plaster on doesn't make the pain of ripping it off any nicer

5.) King Luis. The players mentioned there are in fact better than Stevie is now, doesn't matter what they will be like in 2 years or whatever.

King Luis. The players mentioned there are in fact better than Stevie is now
=====

I wonder how well
Coutinho
Lallana
Sterling
Sturridge
Can
Sahko
Moreno

will do if asked to play out of position as defensive midfielder.

7.) Why would you ask them to do that?

8.) Roy,

Henderson, Can, Moreno and Sterling are all playing 'out of position' at the moment, some to accommodate Stevie G playing. I for one would prefer to watch the way we played at Swansea without him, than the way we played against Leicester with him. forget the pens (just bring on Mario for them lol). All I know is that if Stevie G were to stay for a couple more seasons we would end up worse that Man U did by continuing with Giggs and Scholes for so long for sentimental reasons

I really hope like us all we perform tonight, blow all the negative stuff away and move on. I doubt it though!
I was impressed with how Brendan started as Liverpool manager, he sounded like one, made the right comments at the right time and presented the club as it should be. As time has gone by though he has got worse and worse to the point he now sounds like Moyes whilst down the road last year, lost and no idea where to turn or what to do. His refusal to even accept we need a defensive coach/ new keeper coach is beyond belief and how he keeps selecting the same failures each week is totally disheartening.
So come on boys let's turn this ship around tonight, I for one have had enough!

Awful at the back again last night, not one clean sheet in 18 games! I think that by changing Mingolet (who is getting worse by the week) for Jones we will instantly remove the biggest issue. SM gives our defensive players no confidence at all, panic has set in and it's getting worse. He game has gone to bits, can't kick well, can't position himself properly, doesn't anticipate at all, and is horrendous at crosses of any sort. Jones I believe will at least be better for now and remove the air of panic we currently have. Johnson just has to go, this guy can't defend at all. swap him for Manquillo and ask the boys at the back to be a little less keen to bomb forward for a couple games. We should have enough up front (less Balotelli) to create chances without leaving ourselves open.
Maybe just maybe we can get a couple clean sheets and pick up a couple wins, confidence will rise and we can move forward, at the moment we are going backwards fast!

Great season but we are bout to enter the most important Transfer window for years, we have to get it right or we go back to 7th.
Players that have to be moved on are Coady, Coates, Wisdom, Kelly, Sama, Asaidi, Borini, Aspas and probably more. I would keep Alberto for one more year but it's not looking great right now for him. Lucas and Johnson should be back up only as we really need to improve on them before the season starts.
