Jones has to be above Keita in the pecking order, I know it was only Blackpool but Keita should be gaffering a game like that, Jones came on and did gaffer it.
Thought Bobby was mint when Mo and Mane went off.
Minamino will be a proper player, quality touches and work.
But Jones, the lads a talent.

1.) 05 Sep 2020 17:13:51
Keita was sound, fabihno was a bit off for me.

2.) 05 Sep 2020 17:15:55
What was the final score and who scored?

3.) 05 Sep 2020 17:27:09
I'd be more worried about Fabinho's form. He is our first choice CDM and 4th choice CB, and he has looked completely off the pace. Keita was ok, not sure why people are turning on him.

4.) 05 Sep 2020 17:30:29
Keita was the best player on the pitch with Minamino. Jones looks class too. Perfect Lallana replacement. We have a pretty strong midfield now, and Taki can play forward too as he showed today. Looking forward to the start of the season!

5.) 05 Sep 2020 17:43:59
I thought Keita played well myself . Minamino, Bobby and Sadie were very good, but Mo just isn’t on his game at the moment which is my worry
Curtis Jones is a class player and can only get better.
Score was 7-2

Matip
Mane
Minamino
Firmino
Elliot
Origi
Van de Berg
All scored .

6.) 05 Sep 2020 17:44:50
He wasn't. Taking too much time on the ball and wayward passing is going to concede opportunities for opponents. He needs to improve or he won't be trusted enough to start.

7.) 05 Sep 2020 18:22:31
Gaffering? World class analysis like this makes all worthwhile.

8.) 05 Sep 2020 18:27:56
Congrats on elliot and vbd scoring their first goals for us!

9.) 05 Sep 2020 18:47:08
Elliot looks decent and hopefully will progress into a useful player. Jones will be a star full stop. Millie was class, had his arm around players giving them encouragement. There was also a sense of real team camaraderie and togetherness. The doom and groomers can relax, can see us having another stellar season. Obviously not based on this result, but on their confidence levels and play which seems to flow right from the youth players.

I don't fear the other teams strengthening, its going to be a hell of a ride watching 3 or four teams Duke it out next season, bring it on.

10.) 05 Sep 2020 19:20:37
The doom and groomers!? Damn. Ed001 you need to clamp down on who is using this site!

11.) 05 Sep 2020 19:26:38
Gaffering! Probably the worst term I've ever heard lol.

12.) 05 Sep 2020 19:35:17
I thought Naby was solid, not perfect, but gave us forward drives and it feels like that’s something we haven’t had much of for a while. I worry a bit that he tries to beat players from too deep at times, but what do I know? Not sure what some are talking about when they say Curtis Jones should replace Naby, they can play in tandem quite well I think, as long as they have a solid shield behind them. If Fabs hits form then that is sorted. Hendo will give that usual midfield steel remember.

13.) 05 Sep 2020 20:09:06
Very odd take. Keita was very good in the 2nd half. Unbelievable amount of times he won the ball back. I agree Jones was fabulous. But don't get the dig at Keita at all!

14.) 05 Sep 2020 20:07:37
The good news to me was seeing Firmino and Taki on the pitch at the same time for an entire game. Each one alternating who was ahead of the other. And it worked pretty well. You can see the clear progress Taki is making. And Firmino continues to be the ultimate enigma. He won't score with a one on one against the keeper, but he'll score with a backfoot sidestep (which is more difficult) .

The issue with Keita is simple. Look at all the "wows" for Jones, above, and then compare with the appreciation for Keita. It should be the other way around, with Keita getting all the praise. The minute Jones comes in, he gets involved and he gets other players involved. When we're defending in our third, Jones is in there in the middle. When we're attacking in their third, Jones is also there in the middle. All that Keita should be doing, but doesn't do enough of. I know the media loves to write how a player's price should not play in people's heads. But guess what? It does. And that's part of Keita's problem too.

15.) 05 Sep 2020 20:25:49
Keita was very good i thought. Ran into trouble a few times but on overall balance he was one of the few players who started who had a good game. Firmino and Minamino being the other starters who played well.

Jones, Elliott and Phillips were superb though. Jones and Phillips regained control of the game. Elliott came on though and absolutely destroyed their defence. Never mind his goal or his assist, his flick through to Jones for Origi's goal was absolute genius.

16.) 05 Sep 2020 22:07:08
Pre season friendly and no chance Jones should be ahead of Keita.

17.) 05 Sep 2020 22:20:27
Where i come from to gaffer the midfield is normal im sure you have your own terms where you live but i don't jump on here to re quote somebodies grammar, i don't need correcting im 47 not 16.
As for Keita your all entitled to your own opinions after all football is all about that, my own is im not sure he's good enough at retaining the ball, id love to be proved wrong and he gets full support always but for me personally Jones looks to have a tonne more scope and effort in him.
Take it easy the seasons nearly here and we have zero to worry about until the real stuff begins.
YNWA.

18.) 06 Sep 2020 08:13:45
Midlands Red, nobody was re checking your grammar lol just laughing at the term gaffering. Chill my friend! To quick to jump on the defensive.

19.) 06 Sep 2020 10:38:40
This was a preseason friendly against Blackpool. Nothing should be taken from this game except improving match fitness.

20.) 06 Sep 2020 11:07:17
Spot on, Funghi. Nothing else to see here.

21.) 07 Sep 2020 09:50:26
Didn’t the 17 yr old giant defender everyone is raving about have a poor game?

02 Sep 2020 13:32:21
Every man and his dog are busy speculating about transfers, its expected, it happens,
Also there is a big mix of people on the live chat either griping at the lack of transfers or at each other for moaning about the very same thing, I for one have been guilty on the live chat of having a whinge but I do have to say that in the heat of a 90 minutes it is easy to get carried away when we're not playing too well, pre-season or not.
But in the middle of a game is not a time for reflection and afterwards certainly is, so here's where I'm at as a fan of over 40 years.
We do not need a keeper, Allison is world class and Adrian a very able deputy.
The back four picks itself, more so in my opinion if a fit Matip was to stay fit, Joe Gomez is quality and is still young for a CB so as much as he might have dropped off compared to earlier form he is still learning his trade, everybody is saying we need CB cover OR a starter now Lovren has gone but what about the clear promise of Phillips? does he get thrown out the door like many other promising young players? I suppose we will see.
The new fella at fullback looks a player and will take the heat off Robertson and raw as he is Williams will get better with age and gives cover for TAA

The Midfield is a conundrum based on what we do going forward, we know we have strength and leadership when Henderson plays but Milner isn't getting any younger and if reports are to be believed Gini might be on his way, also Adam has gone and when fit was at least an option of the flair variety.
Keita for one looks hugely promising if the last few months are a true reflection of him as a player and Fabhino is quality also, Klopp clearly likes Curtis Jones who looks to me like he's filled out a bit and could be underrated as a player to look out for this season.
Whether we are going to sign him or not Thiago is clearly top drawer and there would be zero complaints from me should he arrive.

Up front.
Now I think this is where opinions differ from fan to fan massively, if you talk to one fan they'll tell you Salahs gone off or been worked out, talk to another and he's still a worldie, I have to admit that I don't bother with the current trend of stats but look more with my own eyes and to me he's struggling to beat a man and a lot of the time checks back, maybe that's because everybody playing us likes to sit back now so no room on the break but I only hope he starts to click again, for now I'm blaming the hair.
Bobby also divides opinion not for the obvious knitting together of play but for amount of chances he seems to snatch at and the options he doesn't take on occasion when it seems obvious watching that there are better options around him, again another world class player who for me has gone off a bit and will definitely benefit from a rotation option which will probably be Minamino, now he also divides opinion but to me he looks lively and would probably benefit from playing time, he does seem to link up well with Robbo too and if pre-season is where we are at then he's clearly bedding in nicely now.
Mane doesn't divide opinion he just needs to stay as he's our most consistent player in my own opinion and we'd definitely be much worse off without him.
Brewster for me looks quality, I definitely would not be sending him out on loan and I would most certainly be having him as a very real option given his natural finishing ability, Elliot is clearly rated but might be limited to match time just yet, do we need an option? my opinion is yes if only to keep the front 3 on their toes.

So what does that all mean, well our squad isn't old its young, in the last 2 seasons we've been privileged enough to see us win the champions league and the premier league, and with the world club cup thrown in its been an amazing 2 seasons, we are very very lucky to have the side/ squad that we have and maybe instead of griping, myself included we should maybe see if this brilliant side has any more improvement in it and trust our unbelievable manager before we start writing anyone off.
We have never ever been a big money transfer club, we have our own way of doing things and here's to another wild ride in the premier league and Europe!

Bring on the Leeds! YNWA.

1.) 02 Sep 2020 14:03:16
My opinion.
Sell Shaqiri, origi, gini (only because he won’t sign), Grujic.
Use Brewster, Phillips, Jones, Elliott and buy Thiago if possible. Simple as that!

{Ed002's Note - What won't Wijnaldum sign?}

2.) 02 Sep 2020 14:11:59
I thought that lfc tried to sell gini last season then offered a new contract then pulled the contract with him not willing to sign it. Sorry if am wrong. 👍🏻.

{Ed002's Note - There is no offer on the table right now.}

3.) 02 Sep 2020 14:26:45
Gini hasn’t been offered a contract as I understand it, which is baffling to say the least given his importance to how the team functions and I don’t see anyone else with the combination of discipline and ability to fill that role in the squad (Keita lacks the tactical discipline and is injured a lot, same goes for Ox, I don’t think Milner is anywhere near Gini’s level plus he’s at the wrong end of his career, and Curtis Jones is too young and inexperienced, I’m not counting Grujic as the club are looking to sell) So it’s a strange decision all round, particularly given that we literally have no money for replacements and any money from selling him isn’t anywhere near enough to buy an adequate replacement.

4.) 02 Sep 2020 14:31:58
We need two new players to defend the title like it or not. A top-class center back and an attacker with pace and trickery. Sell Shaqiri, Wilson, Grujic, Wijnaldum, good enough to raise enough money to sign players.

5.) 02 Sep 2020 17:49:44
6Times, Gini was offered a contract that he has refused to sign for a year now.

{Ed001's Note - there was a contract put to him, but he was not prepared to sign it, then nothing. He hasn't really refused to sign since then, as there were no more talks held. Klopp has been looking to replace him instead.}

6.) 02 Sep 2020 19:06:06
Thanks, Ed01 for the clarification.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome.}

Brilliant achievement and i've waited so long! love it. A side note, anyone see Brewster tonight? played well again and scored a beauty!

MidlandsRed

1.) 23 Jul 2020 05:32:41
Whats he doing shooting from there? you're not going to beat a professional keeper from that distance.
Oh, hang on.

2.) 23 Jul 2020 12:30:38
Been watching a mash-up of his goals and link up play on Youtube and the kid is seeming more and more like the real deal.

I get married this weekend in Cornwall! I thought the timing was immaculate being the international break haha!
I'm in a good mood as im off work now for a fortnight and would like to wish all the awesome fans and Eds on here all the best and thankyou for always making this site a pleasure to be a part of.
YNWA.

MidlandsRed

{Ed001's Note - great timing this year, but wait until your anniversary coincides with a big game and she expects you to take her out rather than watch the match! So congratulations mate, as you can guarantee all the best games will be on that date from now on.}

1.) 08 Oct 2019 17:55:26
Thanks Ed lol!
Dont say that its bound to happen now haha!

{Ed001's Note - it will happen regularly mate. You can guarantee the big anniversaries will always be the ones that coincide. It is why you should never get married midseason! Shanks should have taught you that much. Still, for an anniversary present you can take her to see Liverpool play live.}

2.) 08 Oct 2019 17:59:28
Congratulations, enjoy your big day. All the best.

3.) 08 Oct 2019 18:08:18
My wedding day would have been England's world Cup quarter final had we won our group. Thankfully the year was 2014 and we finished bottom, below Costa rica.

I did have to cut last year's anniversary event early for the England v Sweden QF though.

4.) 08 Oct 2019 18:59:12
Congrats, OP. Welcome to the club.

5.) 08 Oct 2019 19:18:15
All the best and enjoy the day mate.

Just a heads up though it’s not just anniversaries you need to be wary of, I’m missing the United game as it’s the father in laws birthday and we are all going out! It’s a minefield!

6.) 08 Oct 2019 19:31:45
My family knows it’s better to let me enjoy the match than have me misrable. In the US now so at least the matches are early. When my youngest was born it was a Sunday match against Chelsea. Now she was born late in the evening but we were on our way to the hospital in the morning. Once I had the wife settled and relaxed she sent me off tot he pub around the corner to go watch the match. She said she wanted peace and I was only wrecking her head. 14 years ago nearly to the day back in Cork. of course we lost.

7.) 08 Oct 2019 19:33:26
Congrats, MidlandsRed, you'll never walk alone.

8.) 08 Oct 2019 22:18:59
Congrats and all the best. I'll never forget mine last year. We beat Spurs 2-1 cracking day 😁.

9.) 09 Oct 2019 07:43:35
Congratulations!

My daughter was actually born during our first game vs Norwich and her first outfit was a little LFC one. Seems to be working wonders!

10.) 09 Oct 2019 16:05:53
Hope you are marrying the right woman Midland. The woman I married ( second time around ) has had to put up with me watching Liverpool games at all hours in Thailand ( v Barcelona), Gambia ( v Benfica ), Goa ( v Southampton), numerous games in America, and other European countries. The only country in Europe that I failed to find a place to watch a Liverpool game was in Croatia. Hope you and your wife have as much enjoyment as me and mine did.

Ed what sort of response is that? give over man i didn't find that funny at all sorry.

{Ed0666's Note - come on midland it’s my job to talk you out of jumping off a bridge and I choose to do that with humor. Granted I’m not very funny but Buddha loves a trier. Everyone one seems to be on suicide watch on here after the hiding city gave us but the quicker you realize that you’re fortunate enough to be writing a post on here in anger about you’re team losing is a good day and not a bad one. Ask relatives, loved ones and friends of people who have died of Covid how they feel currently and I think you’re perspective will change (hopefully). Yes we lost in a savage way, yes Klopp fucke* up, yes we’re not gonna win the title, yes it hurts me but I choose to be positive. I’m not gonna be the angel of doom and radiate negativity and if that’s not for you then I respect that. My intention was not to piss you off with my reply and if I did than again it wasn’t my intention.

hold on a minute im 47 and have supported forever, I also said I thought Klopp had lost the plot and rightly so, who keeps doing the same things over and over without even trying something new?
We now have CB's and we don't play any of them? weakening the midfield will not win us games, Klopp needs to sort this out before it becomes a bigger problem.

{Ed0666's Note - At 47 have you started to have prostate issues yet? Weak flow, frequent trips to the bathroom? Just asking for a friend....😂

I think he'd be a good option to have myself, I get that he's not strictly perfect for our system but he's a young lad and could adapt, what if he got it and became undroppable? I get what ED01 is saying like but it just seems such a shame if we don't even try him.
Also agreed on Owen, Fowler was far superior in my book.
