Ed002,
Just wondering if you know of any updates on the manager search over the last few weeks?
Thanks!

JoeyTheRed

{Ed002's Note - The situation remains largely the same as I understand. Alonso remains first choice but there is interest from Bayern Munich which might be more attractive and asuming he wins the league, then I think it will be tough for him to lead som he has the option to stay and wait for the Real Madrid job. Manchester United may offer Amorin an option - another option may be Liverpool, but not first choice - but I think they will move for him if Alonso does not join. If needs force the situation and given the likely link between the club and Sporting, Chelsea may start pushing. Then of course Roberto de Zerbi. Brighton would fight to keep him but another who will certainly be discussed by Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United with Jim Ratcliffe having an interest in him. A significant issue exists in the cost of Brighton releasing him. Deco has de Zerbi as his preferred option which he has shared with Yuste and Laporte but it will not be Deco's decision. Not top of Chelsea's list, but on the list.}

1.) 25 Mar 2024 16:43:27
Top class knowledge Ed, as always, thanks!

May I Ask,
Where do you get all your reliable info and contacts. Were you a scout?

{Ed002's Note - No I was never a scout Joey.}

2.) 25 Mar 2024 17:38:36
Dib dib.

3.) 25 Mar 2024 17:02:32
Hi Ed02. Just come back to this site. Are you able to say who would likely cost us the most to sign one of 3 managers suggested? I'm reading all of them have high release clauses?

{Ed002's Note - Alonso would cost the most but there is no termination clause that is relevant this summer - Leverkusen will ask for €30M and accept €25M.}

4.) 26 Mar 2024 00:01:42
Thanks for the post, Ed. Sorry to bother you, but one question: when you say "another option may be Liverpool, but not first choice, " do you mean that Liverpool isn't Amorim's first choice or he isn't ours? I'd hate to see any promising manager go to United, let alone one I'd like to have here!

Also, who in their right mind would want to manage Chelsea in their current shape?

{Ed002's Note - Alonso is first choice for Liverpool. There is plenty of interest in Amorim.}

5.) 26 Mar 2024 09:49:10
Curious to know why Bayern would be more attractive than Liverpool to Alonso, or any other ambitious young coach? The club, the stadium, the current playing squad, the training facilities and the academy are all in great shape for any new coaching team to inherit. Other than being enamoured with Bavarian lifestyle, is there really much difference between the two?

{Ed002's Note - Bayern Munich have an astonishing stadium and a junior and youth set up which has been hugely successful. They have a scouting network in Bavaria that is exceptional and a world-wide scouting network that only perhaps three sides have bettered. They have a work ethic that runs through the club. Their recruitment process is far better than most. Liverpool's summer recruitment may be over-influenced by the departing manager which will be a concern to any new manager.}

6.) 26 Mar 2024 10:51:58
Thanks, Ed. Interesting perspective. Out of interest, where do you think Liverpool ranks in the world-wide scouting network league?

I am surprised to hear that Klopp may have influence on this summer's business. I had naively thought with Edwards plugging back into the existing Spearman/ Fallows/ Hunter machinery, it would be able to operate without too much of Klopp's input, other than gathering his feedback on existing playing staff.

{Ed002's Note - OKish but they focus on England and Wales with perhaps 10 in place then one for Ireland and Scotland. In Europe there are four perhaps and I think now three covering Argentina and Brazil. They have taken back Sven Dworaczek recently to cover just Germany - which is a good thing. Some are ex-players and Liverpool, like many clubs use specialist scouts as needed. All of this comes under Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter.

In terms of Klopp, Hunter and Fallows will have been involved in all of the discussions about players with Klopp and the scouts - so that list remains valid. Edwards will not be in a position to change that. An early decision on a new manager/coach may be one thing that will change that - but right now the likes of Leroy Sane are still on the list of potential targets - and Sane will be available with a bit of a clear out coming in Munich.}

7.) 26 Mar 2024 12:54:26
Cheers Ed. Very interesting.

8.) 26 Mar 2024 13:44:53
Great questions Former flypelican and unreal info in the answers from Ed002. That was very very interesting reading.

Thanks to you both.

9.) 26 Mar 2024 16:31:48
Whilst Bayern might have a good stadium ( and I have been to the Alliance to watch Liverpool v Bayern ) the redevelopment at Anfield isn’t far off, especially when it comes to hospitality in the main stand. And whilst they may have a decent scouting network,
Bayern Munich has been known to pilfer top, in-prime talent from Borussia Dortmund over the years….

For me, a big influence for Alonso would be how settled the family is in Germany, schools etc etc.

10.) 26 Mar 2024 17:10:29
Personally I don't see the purpose of conquering Germany with a smaller club in Bayer Leverkusen and then jumping ship to Bayern just to do it all over again. It's like completing a video game on hard mode and then playing again on easy mode.

11.) 26 Mar 2024 19:27:25
Xabi Alonso could end up anywhere. Us, Munich or staying at Bayer Leverkusen.

But to me what does he gain exactly by winning the league with Munich. And that’s me removing myself as Liverpool supporter from the equation. I would find it a bizarre career choice, whereas others might see it differently. Each to their own I guess ?‍♂️.

12.) 26 Mar 2024 19:41:08
If Xabi wins the league this year then the next step for him is Champions League. Id reckon his chances of winning that at Bayern are much better than at Bayer. And he would know German league pretty well by now so that would make the job easier.

13.) 26 Mar 2024 20:00:50
It’s why Ed02 is priceless because the information they kindly give us we would never get anywhere else. Thanks Ed02 and your comments are always read with interest by this poster anyway.

14.) 26 Mar 2024 23:28:40
I’m surprised Bayern would be seen as more attractive if he wins the league. I would have thought winning it with Leverkusen would be job done in Germany.

15.) 27 Mar 2024 03:45:42
read an article today that reckoned that RM are very much front runners. When they extended Ancelotti's contract, it "coincidentally" lined up with when Xabis new contract at Bayer expires. And apparently Bayer renewed Xabis contract when it looked like ancellotti was going to leave RM last year.

16.) 27 Mar 2024 18:08:17
I personally think Xabi is going to stay at BL for another season. Play, and experience, Champions league football with them, then see who us available (Real Madrid? ) in the summer. I also think that would be best for him as well. (Not Madrid, but to gain experience)

27 Jul 2018 15:17:55
Besiktas in for Mignolet according to Sky. No secret he will be sold if a buyer can be found. Any of the Ed’s aware of an approach? Thanks in advance.

JoeyTheRed

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

1.) 27 Jul 2018 15:21:27
Good, hope he finds a new club and is happy there.

2.) 27 Jul 2018 15:30:38
Thank you Ed002 :)

3.) 27 Jul 2018 15:36:37
We seem to have a lot of links to Turkish clubs when it comes to potential sales - is it just a coincidence or do we have links there?

Thank you.

{Ed002's Note - They will be searching for loans from the English sides who over price players. Besiktas have also spoken with Everton, Arsenal and Swansea; Fenerbahce has spoken with Stoke, Everton, Chelsea (about four players), Liverpool (about two players) and Swansea; Galatasaray has spoken with Manchester City, Chelsea, Swansea, Leicester and Everton; Trabzonspor has spoken with both Liverpool and Chelsea. It is the way it is.}

4.) 27 Jul 2018 15:53:44
Thanks Ed. That was my first post after following these pages for years so I appreciate your insightful response.

5.) 27 Jul 2018 16:30:21
The Turkish league seems to be a bargain bin for failed Prem players.
Good luck to Migs though.

6.) 27 Jul 2018 17:42:30
But do they want a loan or permanent?

7.) 27 Jul 2018 17:52:37
Swap with Vida?

8.) 27 Jul 2018 18:42:59
Yeah good luck to him, it never worked out here at Liverpool because he wasn't good enough but he'll probably do alright in Turkey!

9.) 27 Jul 2018 19:54:11
He just reached a level he never improved from. Never truly thought he was good enough for us but wish him
well.

10.) 27 Jul 2018 20:48:37
His flaws have been made obvious, but let’s not forget that he also did many good things in his time with us, from his debut penalty save to his form which played a part in us getting back into the CL two years back. He always tried his best, shame he couldn’t kick on and we should wish him well.

11.) 28 Jul 2018 01:14:24
Yep I'm actually a little sad Migs never managed to bring his all around game to the required level, I will always remember some stunning saves he made, and I think I recall 5 or 6 peno saves, probably more? Not sure but maybe some were pre-season, anyone got his stats handy?

12.) 28 Jul 2018 14:56:46
Simon Mignolet: Has saved more penalties (6) than any other goalkeeper since the start of the 2014/ 15 Premier League season.

17 Jun 2018 00:41:26
Quick question to the Ed's. After going through the search engine I see Ed001 and Ed002 have mentioned interest in Clyne, Lallana etc. just wondering if there's been anything a lilttle more serious or enquiries lately for any of our players that we're hoping to sell. I realize it's still early days, cheers in advance Ed's. Appreaciate all the work you all do on here, I'm on this page everyday!

JoeyTheRed

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of. Might be a case of them becoming late options due to the injuries they have suffered meaning they are not first choice.}

1.) 17 Jun 2018 10:54:06
Thank you ed!

{Ed001's Note - welcome.}

20 May 2018 11:42:41
Hi Ed’s, any truth to all the nonsense regarding Anderson Tallisca? Can’t find anything on the search engine. Cheers in advance.

JoeyTheRed

{Ed001's Note - his coach said he was moving club and that is all, there was nothing in regards to Liverpool.}

1.) 20 May 2018 12:30:13
By 'moving to rival club' I believe he means any club in the premier league and not us specifically.

2.) 20 May 2018 12:43:30
More of a Jose signing to me lads. I don't think it's us.

3.) 20 May 2018 13:08:56
Thank you Ed001. Thought as much!

4.) 20 May 2018 16:18:46
It's because the quote referred to him being a cenk tosun rival next year and the rags have decided it must mean Liverpool. I agree with you guys he looks like side show bobs replacement.

{Ed002's Note - The English side in negotiations for Talisca is not Liverpool.}

5.) 20 May 2018 16:28:23
I think it's wolves if I'm not mistaken.

6.) 20 May 2018 16:48:27
Manchester United I heard.

7.) 20 May 2018 17:49:35
£35m to United. Mourinho is turning them into Pulis era Stoke.

8.) 20 May 2018 18:02:51
Is he any good?

9.) 21 May 2018 21:11:37
Haven't they learned from the other Anderson they had.?

07 Mar 2018 00:35:13
Just a random question to any of the Ed's. Do you know if it was the plan to play Gomez and TAA at Rb this season and interchange them so often, or if Clyne was fit would he be starting and his injury rather forced Klopps hand? Thanks!

JoeyTheRed

{Ed001's Note - Klopp has been looking to replace Clyne for a few seasons, the plan was to buy a right back and sell Clyne.}

1.) 07 Mar 2018 07:58:46
I'd sell matip, move Gomez centrally and then see how lovren performs for the rest of the seasons. Depending on whether he plays well or not, then buy a CB to replace him, or buy a right back and have Gomez rotating CB.

2.) 07 Mar 2018 08:30:00
Good plan Ed1 mate. I don't want to sound too harsh but I don't want to see Clyne play for us again lol he's no good and never was. Somebody a few weeks ago tried to tell me Clyne was a good player, I have no idea what games they've been watching of him.

3.) 07 Mar 2018 11:47:05
He’s no improvement on Glen Johnson. Said so at the time and nothing has changed my opinion.

4.) 07 Mar 2018 12:14:44
Exactly my thoughts too Gmac.

5.) 10 Mar 2018 01:50:12
Does having Trent and Joe doing so well remove the need for an addition once Clyne is moved on?

Ed001,
Quick question mate.

Your opinion on the potential return of Michael Edwards? Albeit in a different role.
Him and Hughes be a good combo in your eyes?

JoeyTheRed

{Ed001's Note - no, I would not want Edwards anywhere at the club again. He hamstrung us with high wages.}

1.) 08 Mar 2024 11:58:57
FSG must rate Edwards highly if they are pursuing him.

What’s the role they are actually offering him? Anyone know.

2.) 08 Mar 2024 12:36:34
IIRC, he's set up a consultancy, so it may be a consult role to help the new DoF, but I'm only guessing.

3.) 08 Mar 2024 15:18:39
Is it not just an interim role?

{Ed002's Note - I have explained elsewhere.}

4.) 08 Mar 2024 11:56:50
Your view isn't shared by many Ed01, but I respect it.

{Ed001's Note - my view isn't shared by many because many are ignorant of what he even did.}

5.) 08 Mar 2024 12:00:22
Ed001, you meant high wages but low transfer fees?

{Ed001's Note - no I did not, I meant high wages. If I mean but low transfer fees I would have said it.}

6.) 08 Mar 2024 15:01:03
It’s reported in an article in the Guardian today,

He turned down an initial approach from FSG in January regarding resuming his career as Liverpool’s sporting director and is likely to want total control in a more far-reaching position, such as head of football operations, to accept the invitation to return.

Edwards would be expected to head the recruitment and analytics departments. He would lead the appointments of any new sporting director and Liverpool’s manager.

Ed001- do you think that would suit him/ the club and would keep him away from setting player wages in the future? A better role?

{Ed001's Note - he is a very good analyst but any role that gives him decision making power does not seem in his sphere of expertise.}

7.) 09 Mar 2024 07:36:19
Tbh I don’t really mind who we get cos I honestly have no clue who would be the best candidates for this role.

But I do recall we had an over inflated squad with players we couldn’t sell, players injured too often, some of the highest wages and agent fees in the league and a squad built with limited flexibility due to homegrown quota. That was under Edwards.

We also won trophies during that time too.
So I dunno tbh lol.

8.) 09 Mar 2024 09:20:46
Ah the old non-existent home grown problem! Love THis site, Edwards was the messiah till Ed001 said he didn't rate him, now he is brutal?.

04 Feb 2019 16:03:49
Don’t agree with them too often, but great piece from sky’s ports on Gini and how underrated he is! This is the season, imo, he’s finally reached his potential, different to what was expected maybe, with barely any goals, and assists but a priceless player to this Liverpool team. Hopefully he and the boys can do the buisness tonight. Must win! YNWA.

JoeyTheRed

1.) 04 Feb 2019 19:01:31
He is no longer underrated by us though.

Cough* Although he was 7 months ago.

2.) 04 Feb 2019 19:03:42
Shame Gini is out tonight, we will miss him.

31 Jan 2019 13:22:25
Ed001 if your about. What do you think is going on with Naby. We’ve unfourtantley only seen glimpses of his undeniable quality, but games like last night he’s quiet, dosent have an effect on the game we’d hope for. The talent is there, we’ve seen abit of it. Why not more consistently? Is it purely a confidence thing? Find myself desperate to see Naby inpact every game he starts lol. Thanks Ed!

JoeyTheRed

{Ed001's Note - he has barely had a chance yet. Nothing is going on other than people jumping to knee jerk assessments of a player who has had a season disrupted by injury.}

1.) 31 Jan 2019 14:19:03
I had little problem with his performance last night and felt he came off at the point he was just starting to grow into it.

People need to cut Naby some slack, keeping in mind he has spent a fair chunk this season out injured, has spent a few games in unfamiliar position (e. g. LW two games back) and is adjusting to a new league.

I'm saving judgement until we see him get a solid run of games.

2.) 31 Jan 2019 14:42:33
MrSox87, I too thought Naby did OK last night. I would have liked to see him driving forward with the ball a bit more, like he did when he was fouled in the penalty area by Pereira when he looked certain to score, but I am sure that will come.

3.) 31 Jan 2019 15:11:08
ed001 what did you think about the selectin last, I think playing nabby, Shaqiri and the front 3 was a little to attacking and when lost the ball we was very open to the counter attack. We did look a lot more solid when Fabinho came on. do think the goal we gave away with Robertson flying forward that late on in the half is something the team has got to learn from to have better game management late on in games.

{Ed001's Note - the goal was nothing to do with anything other than Robbo's stupidity.}

4.) 31 Jan 2019 16:32:30
Ed001 van dike was at fault as much as anyone for ball watching to.

{Ed001's Note - the fault was Robbo's for doing a Moreno style assault needlessly on a player that was boxed in and going nowhere and so giving away a free kick.}

5.) 31 Jan 2019 16:42:29
Exactly right Edo1, Robbo giving away a cheap free kick and right on half time too, which gave Leicester a boost and probably had the opposite effect on our players.

6.) 31 Jan 2019 17:47:13
Completely his fault, a rare act of selfish petulance for giving the ball away before hand. I hope that incident alone will sharpen minds as it shows what a lack of concentration and thought can cost you. It was one of those moments when as soon as he did it I said “oh no”, it felt obvious it was going to result in a goal.

7.) 31 Jan 2019 18:14:48
I think Naby has shown several times now that he can be a class player for us. What’s missing right now is confidence. In the first half yesterday you could see him playing simple one touch passes only. I am sure Klopp said something to him at half time because in the second half he was imposing himself a lot more. He started running with the ball and showing a greater range of passing. He just needs to continue building up his confidence which will happen once he has a run of 4-5 games at a stretch.

8.) 31 Jan 2019 18:59:57
Spot on, Ed. I can't believe the type of negativity people are showing towards Naby. Those of us who have seen him play for a long period at RBL know how good he is and are not worried. it is the spoiled petulant fans who believe in instant gratification and instant success, who have no stomach to supprt their own player during a bedding period, that are causing a fuss for no reason. We have seen several glimpses of what Naby can do and saying the contrary, is just a rejection of truth and facts, end of. He will get all the time he needs and his haters will have to get over it and most importantly, themselves. IMO, Naby was solid last night and had we not had limited options on the bench, he prolly would have stayed on.

As for the game last night, that foul by Robbo was dumb and selfish. Had Moreno done that, he would be roasted on here and rightly so hence, it is only normal/ fair that he gets the same treatment here. Also, those blaming VVD for it need to go watch it again and this time, use their eyes and an open mind instead of trying to blame someone who had nothing to do with it.

9.) 31 Jan 2019 20:52:24
Iv just watched it again RedWolf. The defensive line pushed up when the ball went out and VVD was completely unaware Maguire was behind him therefore some blame can be apportioned to him in my opinion. Admittedly Robbo should never have made the foul and some blame can be apportioned to him. Personally I don’t know why we even bothered getting the ball forward when there was a minute left on the clock and Matip and VVD had no pressure on them and could of just passed between themselves until the whistle blew for half time as they were doing until the ball went out to the left. It just increased the chances of losing the ball giving them a chance to attack. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter who’s fault it is, it was a draw, we still gained a point on city and we move on to West Ham.

10.) 31 Jan 2019 21:11:36
Spot on, Frankie. 5 points ahead is not what we all wanted BUT we'll take it esp. since City bricked it big time vs Newcastle. On to the next game. YNWA!

11.) 01 Feb 2019 00:07:36
Ed1 those are the fouls I hate the most. Player facing wrong way, no danger on our goal yet our guy chops him down. The ones at the other end of the pitch where we have their defenders penned in until someone gets impatient and brings em dow irk me too!

{Ed001's Note - same here, they are the most idiotic of all. So pointless, just wait and force them into making something happen.}

24 Dec 2018 12:30:10
How do you think we will/ should line up against Newcastle on Wednesday reds? I know changes will be made against Wolves in the Fa Cup, but with two VITAL games coming up against Arsenal and City before that, I would make changes for Wednedsy
Allison
Clyne-Lovren-VVD-Moreno
Milner-Henderson
Shaq-Bobby-Mane
Sturridge

Salah, Robertson and Fabinho getting much needed rests. Risky but I think it has to be done with so much football coming up And having already been played in recent weeks. Opinions?

JoeyTheRed

1.) 24 Dec 2018 13:07:00
Fabinho needs to be sold if he needs a rest. He's only started about 10 games this season.

They are professionals. They are only tired once you start telling them they are tired. Training should be harder than matches anyway.

Play the same team who beat Wolves. The most important game is the next game.

2.) 24 Dec 2018 14:07:29
Get the boat lad 😭.

3.) 24 Dec 2018 14:28:06
Well I think the OP has a point and I expect Klopp to utilise the whole squad over the festive period.

I wouldn’t rest Salah, he’s bang in form and Bobby needs to keep playing up top as he’s finding some consistency.
I might give Sadio a rest 👍

I think we need to use our subs especially if the game is won 🤝.

4.) 24 Dec 2018 17:17:26
I would agree with Ron. Some changes, not wholesale and put the game to bed as early as we can, use the subs.

5.) 24 Dec 2018 20:48:11
For me, the spine of the team is Alisson-Van Dijk-Fabinho-Firmino. They should play every game. (I would normally place Henderson in place of Fabinho, but I prefer Hendo playing next to Fabinho. instead of him) .

6.) 25 Dec 2018 13:27:30
Clyne and Moreno on the pitch at the same time?

03 Dec 2018 13:42:55
Just got the roster for work next week. GOing to miss our crucial game with Napoli of course, gutted! Tends to be quiet on tuesdays though, so I can see a bit on my phone. My question is does anyone have a good reliable stream I could watch on muni phone. First row hasn’t been to good lately, any help would be appreciated reds.

JoeyTheRed

1.) 03 Dec 2018 14:04:51
try Reddit soccer streams, works great for me every time.

2.) 03 Dec 2018 14:10:07
Navixsport is a good app for android.

3.) 03 Dec 2018 14:13:50
Google 'Liverpool Napoli totalsportek' or go with Reddit soccer streams, I usually manage to find a reliable and decent quality stream from those two options.

4.) 03 Dec 2018 15:57:48
Joey, its going to be a special night, anyway you can develop man flu, its going round mate, and it will get you that pass to see the game .

5.) 03 Dec 2018 16:04:52
wow sports is good. quick download always get the option of about 5 or 6 links for the big games.

6.) 03 Dec 2018 18:57:50
Reddit streams work a treat for me.

7.) 03 Dec 2018 19:33:40
HAppy to be a red. haha I might just try that, my throat is tickling a little bit. Thanks for all the info lads, appreciate it.

Cheers Ed. I’m a big fan of Inacio. Think he’s exactly what we need.
So last questions. Is it an English club who made the bid? A rival perhaps?

Any intention Ed do you think of Liverpool to match the bid or make a bid of our own?
Thank you.
