Hey Eds,

Just a quick question from me - How come Origi was left out of the squad yesterday? Not complaining at all as I think he has some way to go, but was wondering if it was injury related or a case of Klopp just didn't fancy him in the squad with Benteke already on bench?

Jimjam782

{Ed001's Note - I believe he was just rested.}

1.) 01 Nov 2015 15:42:35
We have a midweek trip to Russia. Origi was rested because he started 4 games in 2 weeks, and looks like he felt it. It was good management. I expect him to start against Rubin Kazan on Thursday.

2.) 01 Nov 2015 16:18:51
I read somewhere that he stayed behind for extra training.

3.) 01 Nov 2015 18:39:51
He's not premiership material in my opinion.

4.) 01 Nov 2015 19:47:10
Jcw. You're basing that off of how many games you've watched? Just curious as I think he's been impressive in a few games. He hasn't scored but that will come.

5.) 01 Nov 2015 21:56:12
He's young and only just started out in the PL, he may have struggled a bit so far but very early days and he's also shown he has potential. Let's take him for for what he is shall we and cut him some slack.

I think he's a very good prospect with the right coaching.

6.) 01 Nov 2015 23:57:29
20 years old, from a different league, English not his first language; bought by a manager that has left the club and didn't know to set-up his own team (this sounds like a piece from Gladiator) . then slaughter him after 4 games playing a different style with a new manager.

I'd rather see what he's like at the end of the season (Rodgers called him world class - Origi didn't! ) .

7.) 02 Nov 2015 01:38:47
Remember he got named in the worse players team of the season last year, nowhere near good enough for what lfc want to achieve, reminds me of David Ngog and that says it all!

{Ed001's Note - that's unfair to put that in there, he got the votes as the fans there got on his back because he was moving to Liverpool, and they felt he had gone all big time. Origi is nothing like Ngog, you might want to watch them more.}

8.) 02 Nov 2015 11:05:43
Biggest problem with Origi is his movement, which can be worked on. He is quick and can go past a player, feel he would be much better on the wing while he learns his trade, which will give him the opportunity to see what movement a striker should have to supplement his midfield. Feel he could benefit massively from this as Henry did. Could be a gem but has a lot of hard work ahead of him to get there.

9.) 02 Nov 2015 11:10:52
he was 2nd in the goal scoring charts behind the new lad for man utd and look what they paid for him at that age, so if he had a bad season but finished 2nd behind Martial (sorry for the spelling ) i would like to see him with a good season, he is a young lad who is adapting to a new country and league, even the most experienced players who come to the prem sometimes need a season to get used to out league, and from what I've seen he has not done too bad considering all that, as some one said i will like to see him after a full season for us.

10.) 02 Nov 2015 11:38:40
It was only my opinion, I watched a lot of his games last year, everyone he's played at Liverpool and just don't think he is premiership material. He must understand that if Ings, Sturridge and Benteke are available then he won't be starting, UNLESS he uses the time he is getting now to prove different, its ok saying he's come from a different league, different country etc . so do lots of PL players

As I say its only my opinion and I hope to be proved wrong and hope Klopp see's what you see in him.

On another note: I was pretty much ridiculed on this site at the end of last year for predicting Klopp would be manager by Xmas . 1-0 i dus think ;)

11.) 02 Nov 2015 23:53:08
Think there's a big difference between saying someone isn't up to liverpook/PL standard right now and saying he isn't Premier League material (ie never will be good enough) .

I'd agree with you he won't be getting games if Studge, Tekkers or Ingo fit, but that's not to say he won't make it. We just need to give him time to grow and adapt, he has all the right attributes.

I also agree with someone above mentioning he would benefit from given a shot as a wide forward/winger for a bit. think with his ability to go past a man, and pressure off to score himself, he could really benefit.

12.) 03 Nov 2015 02:12:11
In defence or origi he's going to look lacking compared to the other strikers we have, all have years of experience more than him, slightly barring Ings. I wonder if he'd suit a 2 up from system if we had another for striker or firmino just off him.

Great site Eds and thanks for keeping us all constantly updated!

Just a quick one, now Berahino has woke up and no longer with award (sterling agent) is there any chance we could be interested in bringing him to the club? Certainly has the pace, potential finishing and age we seem to be looking for?

Jimjam782

{Ed001's Note - it seems unlikely this window.}

1.) 09 Jul 2015 09:48:25
I think this would have been a good deal for us. He's only 21 and got 20 in 45 games last season, his stats are improving as he's getting older, and I like his movement. Seems a better fit than Benteke, but looks like that is the way were going.

2.) 10 Jul 2015 06:21:50
For Berahino, the agent was only part of the problem.

A quick question for the Eds as would value your opinion, and of course any fellow posters too!

The whole Trent in midfield debate comes up often and I am not saying that's what we should do, but did get me thinking as it doesn't appear to be in Klopp mind.

My take on it (not that it's worth much) is that he would be a great option for midfield for most teams out there BUT actually for Klopp midfield (constant pressing and tracking back etc) it actually wouldn't be an ideal fit as he wouldn't potentially get the time and space and could end up slowing down play? he also may not be physical and as industrial as a typical Klopp midfielder.

Solely an opinion, and as my wife would testify to, or at least insist - I am wrong most of the time!

Jimjam782

{Ed001's Note - I actually think he would be a good fit in midfield, so long as he is not the holding mid.}

1.) 07 Nov 2022 09:49:13
Jimjam782, That is a great post as I fully agree with you on the point that Trent may not be ready nor be a good fit for midfield right now, as currently constituted. I like you, have always thought he lacks the physicality and athleticism required to play in a typical Klopp midfield as you described it and frankly, I don't think this is the time to be doing the move since he is struggling mightily to put one good game together like several are right now in the team.

My question to Ed02 is do you feel he has the physical tools and athleticism to play in the Klopp midfield (not DM of course)? Not sure if we will even play the high press anymore with "The Brain" now in charge of tactics. Cheers, man.

{Ed002's Note - He is a very good RWB which serves midfield duties. I have no feeling if he could play more centrally.}

2.) 07 Nov 2022 10:39:43
I posted saying the same op but for some reason my post get move to the discussion page.
I totally agree Trent should play in midfield now.

Yesterday for me just sums up how great the Premier League is.

No matter how good a team you are normally, there is always a chance the other team either want it more, get a bit of luck or quite simply on the day deserve the win.

Yes Liverpool not at our best and yes we've let some leads slip but fair play to West Ham they were strong and have been all season, and pretty much deserved the win.

On another day I am confident we would beat them, as I am that we will be challenging on multiple fronts.

But how boring would it be if we just won every game - we'd end up with a league like in France.

Gutted about the result yesterday, but throw in Chelsea's draw at Burnley, City every now and again losing a dead cert and you have to admit we have some great footballing drama going into 2022. Let's just hope Liverpool are top of the tree at the end!

Whatever happens we should be thankful for the exciting football and goals they give us even when we occasionally lose/ draw.

Jimjam782

1.) 08 Nov 2021 17:09:52
Hear Hear!
Great perspective Jimjam I used to let a loss ruin my day/ week many moons ago. Luckily over the last few seasons losses have become few and far between so chin up all :)

2.) 08 Nov 2021 17:27:21
I agree it’s an exciting league but we have not proved to be a great team so far this season. Our league form is patchy at best. Players need a kick up the bum and they better start performing. City will more than likely go on a run soon so we better start improving very quickly.

3.) 08 Nov 2021 17:35:43
I will be honest. I didn't think West Ham were that great. Becker had a nightmare for the first goal, 99 times out of 100 he does better. He also made a ricket for the second, again on most other days he would save it easily. Antonio got away maybe twice in the whole game.
Not that I'm saying Liverpool were great, they weren't but they scored 2 good goals, enough to win any game and if it wasn't for Becker having an off day then win would win the game. The Hammers were not that good, just my opinion mind 🤣👌.

4.) 08 Nov 2021 18:06:02
Wow dressing up a woeful performance.

5.) 08 Nov 2021 18:30:56
Does it make a difference whether a woeful performance is dressed up afterwards?
We didn't get 3 points, West Ham did, that's all that counts.
On to the next.

6.) 08 Nov 2021 19:06:31
We're Sickofyou.

7.) 08 Nov 2021 19:26:18
We have ONLY lost 19 of our 163 PL games (we only lost 9 of those within a 3 year period) . It is undeniable that Klopp has built a team of warriors who for large majority of these games, simply refuse to lose and hate losing just like he does.

IMO, Losing is a very rare occurrence for us hence, I’m sure our boys will bounce back cos if you lose as rarely as we do, it feels so foreign hence, so hard to take even tho you know it will come. It happens. It’s what comes afterwards that matters now. We live. We learn. We move on.

8.) 08 Nov 2021 20:14:29
Sickofthis what's the thinking behind the username?
Were you born yesterday?

9.) 08 Nov 2021 20:33:28
That’s actually a ridiculous record and shows what an amazing job Klopp has done. If anything it’s actually criminal we’ve not won more league titles with that record.

10.) 08 Nov 2021 20:50:42
That’s exactly right it is a great not lose record but it’s points that matter. We have too many draws which have stopped us winning more leagues. We need to put a winning run together in the league before we lose another title.

11.) 08 Nov 2021 21:15:32
Moral of the story JK. The stats and records are useless if you don’t win trophies mate.

12.) 09 Nov 2021 02:56:50
We have won trophies mate - the Premier League, the Champions League, the Club World Cup - name a bigger trophy out there that we can enter for?

I get that you are just here as a wind up but a really good winder upper at least has some grasp of reality and a sort of semi-truth to the wind up. Just saying, ’oh no it isn’t all the time makes you sound like you are warming up for a role in pantomime at Christmas mate.

13.) 09 Nov 2021 06:45:43
You shouldn’t be at all satisfied with two major trophies in Klopp’s reign. We had or hopefully still have a great side but we need to massively improve our current league form or in a few games our league challenge will be over just like last season.
You can count on one finger who is having a good league season for Liverpool atm.

14.) 09 Nov 2021 07:10:09
Jeez Mark, I like your posts but you talk bollocks sometimes. Unbeaten in 26 matches until West Ham, scoring 3 goals per away match, top of our CL group and unbeaten in Europe this season yet only one player having a good season We have a hell of a ceiling to reach if the other ten players pick up their game.
One defeat where we defended poorly and people start flapping like we’re in a relegation battle. It’s short-sighted to base our chances of winning the league on one loss. We’ve been excellent this season despite what happened in the last game.

15.) 09 Nov 2021 07:25:19
We don't need to massively improve our league form Markp. 4 points might do it, 2 wins instead of 2 draws might do it based on the league table today. We have problems, no doubt but we aren't sitting mid table like.

16.) 09 Nov 2021 11:08:27
I'm very optimistic about this season but i can see where people are coming from with regards to improving league form and when i say form i mean results. We are almost a third of the way through the league campaign and we have won 53.3% of our league games. Compare that to our 100% record in the CL.

Not a moan but for us to win the league this season we would have to improve on 53% win rate so therefore people saying league form / results have to improve are speaking facts.

17.) 09 Nov 2021 21:16:12
Mark, And what Trophies have we not won? We have won/ played a final of every single comp. we have entered into under Klopp bar the FA Cup which we know Klopp does not care too much about as he had to prioritise. Also, a reason we haven’t been able to win more is cos he spent half his tenure trying to build the squad or does that not count? What did we win in the decade before Klopp arrived? Nothing, that’s what.

And How are we going to win more leagues when it took him three years to build a team worthy of it and have only been challenging since 18/ 19? Get a grip and be happy that we have won as much as we have going against the biggest spenders in football history in City and Utd and to some extent, Chelsea.

As for our current form, we are in a solid position BUT we have issues that are well documented and we have to improve a lot to get to where we want to be. One game at a time and we will see where we have in Jan.

25 Jan 2021 15:15:10
Really don't understand some of the posters on here. So quick to blame and point the finger at our own players or pretend that we are the only team that sometimes get decisions against us.

The truth is it was a soft foul, but still a foul.

We aren't buying a CB because we don't have the money. Do you really think FSG and Klopp don't realise we need one? Surely they would rather stay away from administration than invest more money we don't have - this isn't a game of football manager, don't understand why some people don't understand this?

Have you ever heard of You Never Walk Alone? Regardless of individual errors and circumstance what made me proud of being a Liverpool fan is our passion, belief and willingness to support ALL of our team regardless. Some of the posters recently (albeit the minority thankfully) think it's ok to slag off players and hide behind "I'm just voicing my opinion". Quite frankly that attitiude is embarrassing for the club.

Let's get behind our team instead of being another facet of pressure they don't need.

We lost today fair and square - we swallow it and move on. Season isn't over and if you can't support Liverpool positively in times like this then in my opinion you don't deserve to enjoy the good times as a Liverpool fan.

Apologies for the rant as I know the majority on here are solid fans and voice healthy debates and constructive opinions. But recently there have been a few that go to far and are putting the club to shame

YNWA.

1.) 25 Jan 2021 15:57:54
Well said JJ782. Couldn't agree more. Let's get behind the Team.

2.) 25 Jan 2021 16:55:42
It was a foul for me, Fabinho has a habit of trying to knick the ball off the attacker and getting it wrong, he did something similar against Sheffield United earlier in the season.
It's not his fault, he's a midfielder having to play in central defence.

3.) 25 Jan 2021 17:08:49
Agreed Thunderbird, that tackle would present no real anger in the area Fab normally operates in. More proof that even though he's doing a decent job at CB there's always a reason why you shouldn't rely too heavily on using players out of position.

4.) 26 Jan 2021 09:24:47
It was a foul, end of. Fab showed his frailties as a midfielder playing at CB cos you can do that in midfield and there is no real danger. His lack of awareness that a CB would have, killed him there and that is to be expected at times. No need going over it, really.

5.) 26 Jan 2021 11:06:20
I agree with everything said, the op the comments after. What got me mad at the situation is Bruno constantly moving the ball back from the spot that the referee pointed the foul was made. After 2-3 attempts the referee just agreed with Bruno and let it be. Why? I was screaming at the TV show him the yellow and he won't move it again. But in reality referee let it be and in my opinion made the whole situation easier for Bruno as the wall was where it had to be. I have no idea why is no body talking about that.?

I have a question for the Ed's and apologies if I'm being naive.

However with all games seemingly televised and fans still not alanine in stadiums has there ever been discussion around offering fans a TV Season ticket to watch all their clubs games vs paying for BT and Sky and now being charged extra for random games?

I'd happily pay a premium to get access to Liverpool's games for the season.

Again I'm probably being naive and it's more about the vast money sky can through at the premier league to stop suggestions like this from even happening, but wanted to ask in case you'd know if it had even been a considered option?

Jimjam782

{Ed002's Note - You can get access to the Liverpool games by paying £15 for each (at the moment). It is not BT or Sky charging you for this, they only get their costs covered and the balance goes back to the clubs. The PL clubs were due to discussing handing the balance on to the EFL clubs last Wednesday but the meeting was hijacked over Project Big Foot.}

Thanks Ed appreciate the reply.

Morning all,

After already seeing the likes of Thiago, Mane, David Moyes and other players starting to get C.V. it got me thinking and curious on other people's thoughts here. Players are so close in games, training and travelling that surely it gets easier to spread once one gets it.

I know there is rigorous testing at the clubs and also great ways of keeping things clean etc, but in a human level it has to be strange and a little scary being a footballer right now.

Feels like they are forced to play/ do their job solely as the clubs would struggle financially if not, regardless of health risks to some extent.

It's easy to just get wrapped up in the football side of things but these guys are putting themselves more at risk and also their families and mentally is another thing they must battle. Just wondering at what point do we need to get to when the FA simply say enough is enough and we should no longer put players at risk.

Perhaps I'm overthinking and making something that isn't there, but it feels like a bit of the human consideration element has faded in recent weeks and sole priority is money. I guess the argument is that if the focus is purely on the human element there may not be any clubs for them to come back to. Certainly crazy times and starting to appreciate mentally these must be really hard times for a lot of players.

Same can be said for many occupations mate, I'm in close contact with many people on a daily basis, I have no idea if they have it or not but what can we do? Can't let the world stand still.

Unfortunately in this country since they started relaxing rules back in june/ July people got too relaxed about it and are now acting like there's nothing going on, almost acting like they are immune kind of thing. It's frustrating to say the least but it's the world we live in right now, we have to continue getting on with life.

2.) 03 Oct 2020 10:55:49
Footballers are in about the most protected profession there is at present, though obviously not immune. No one is.
Salah above is exactly right, everyone is facing the risks.
How’d you fancy being in university halls of residence right now?
It’s just odd to me that pubs are still open.

3.) 03 Oct 2020 11:08:03
Totally agree Salah, since the relaxing of the rules a few months back people have forgotten there is a C.V.. It’s a tough one and I don’t want to turn this forum into a political one but the lockdown enforced In March should have been even stricter. The government now find themselves in a predicament, whereby any lockdown like that seen in March, April and May will almost certainly crash the economy, not to that it hasn’t been already.

4.) 03 Oct 2020 11:25:05
Fair points Salah and Juicer and I can see where you are coming from and you’re correct in that unfortunately we just need to be getting on with life. Completely agree on the pubs point - as much as I love them can’t see the logic in them being kept open if it gets worse.

To all those that are working in and amongst it every day, I respect and applaud you as well as a big thank you, as I appreciate it’s got to be tough.

Stay safe everyone.

Spot on, Salah. Restrictions got relaxed here in Belgium as well during that time cos people just let themselves go and then the spikes happened and things got tightened up again. As long as restrictions are being strictly obeyed and not rise in the hospitalization numbers, things will be fine for the time being.

7.) 03 Oct 2020 13:04:59
Was pointless having the March lockdown when our borders were still open every day for whoever wanted to come in and not have to isolate. I think 60% of
People were still having to work and masks were introduced 7 months into a C.V.. You can’t catch the virus before 10pm in a pub and you can work with someone 10 hours a day and then it’s illegal to go to their household. C.V. is the 24th biggest killer in Britain. The other 23 are killing more people but we carry on with our day to day lives with them before this. Having to wear a mask into a pub or restaurant and then taking it off once you are seated is the equivalent of having a peeing section in a swimming pool. The survival rate for this virus is 98%. Unfortunately I have lost 2 loved ones during the lockdown when both were fully isolating. Both passed away from other means and challenge’s. Both of them spent their last months of life in lockdown away from loved ones.

Personally a lot for me changed during Corona C.V..

Money was already everywhere and influencing the winners/ losers, but then we had the debacle of rich clubs (including ours) trying to furlough staff in one hand and then buy players with another.

It just exposed the greed in the game, and now with the money across clubs it's essentially who can spend the most as well as any drama the media can spin.

I still watch Liverpool and want us to win of course, but it's not quite the same as 15-20 years ago when there was more excitement and less contentious topics.

Thinking about it maybe it's not just the money, but also the increased added complications around tactics, rule changes, coming away from a contact sport and these super light balls (in my day if you headed the ball in rainy weather it would take your head off) - although I appreciate there is an injury concern with the old balls.

Anyway yeah feels a lot more complicated these days and miles away from my jumpers for goalposts days - I see more kids shouting about football now and doing tricks on Tik Tok than just being out there kicking a ball about.

It reminds me of Nathanial Clyne in that he was peripheral for a while and then suddenly always injured and never close to featuring one klopps plans nor wanted.

He also (although I could be wrong) had a poor attitude when it came to training and consistently above and beyond. Equally liked a night out over career focus. Keita seems to be heading down the same path….
