Eds, out of curiosity, obviously Sturridge has only been with us a short time but have any clubs shown an interest in him since he joined? If so, who? I can't remember any media outlet reporting it.

{Ed001's Note - no idea and none would be entertained anyway.}

Morning Eds,

Any truth to the news Liverpool are to hold talks with Henderson over a new contract? (Fingers crossed)

Also, how is McLaughlin coming along? I read he was out for four weeks so was wondering whether there'd been any further news since. Looked mighty impressive vs Blackpool. Ed001 if (and a big if) he was to continue progressing well and showing promise like he did in that match, would you think he'd be ready for first team integration by next season? As much as I'd love to see him playing for the seniors, I just wonder whether jumping from reserves, to a half season in Championship, to the first team may be a little too quick. Would be great having a player from our own youth ranks challenging GJ though as opposed to buying elsewhere. Thoughts would be appreciated!

Cheers

{Ed001's Note - yes. McLaughlin has impressed enough to extend until the end of the season, but not heard anything since. I think McLaughlin was ready for a run in the team before the loan, then send him out on loan to keep his feet on the ground. That is how I would have preferred it, he is certainly good enough in his ability. Johnson was awful this season, it was the perfect time to blood him, early on, by bringing him on a few times in the second half. Then send him out on loan for the second half of the season, so he realises he still needs to work on his game.}

No cohesion in the final third until second half, Manquillo put in a huge effort but laying crosses from wide against such a physically intimidating back line as Villa means they had the opportunity to just belt it out every opportunity, it was incredibly similar to the City vs Stoke game. It's hard to penetrate such a well drilled defense who know exactly how we are going to operate. Can't knock Lambert's game plan, the problem is now other teams will know how to close us out. Looking forward to getting Allen back to restore some balance to midfield where we were battling all the way through. There are always going to be blips, on the plus side the way our wing backs were bombing up field shows that pressing a high line panics defenders and leaves them chasing where the attack will come from. There aren't many teams who will be as solid as Villa were at the back, a good win on Tuesday will get us back on the right route. When Balo gets decent service I can see him being a big asset. As much as I love Gerrard, I'd like to see him rotated with Can just to add that bit of pace when we grab the ball on the counter. It'll click eventually, it's not out of the norm for a new front line to not click properly after 1 game. Once again we saw Henderson's work rate, and his long passing is getting better and better, I'll be very surprised if he isn't handed the VC band.

If the reports of Kelly going to Crystal Palace are true then best of luck, Martin. Gutted about his injury setbacks, he had the makings of a star, and hopefully at Palace with regular games he can find that old form.

Do us proud Martin lad, once a Red always a Red.

Can I ask why people think, 'we're signing Eto'o for a year until Origi comes back' is a sensible viewpoint? For one, is it written in the stars that Origi is going to turn up and start banging in ridiculous numbers? He'll only be 20 when he gets to Liverpool. He'll need time to settle. Secondly, this is a Champions League campaign this year, this isn't a year of 'transition'. Lambert isn't a striker, nor would he be effective as one. Markovic, Ibe and other PREDOMINANTLY wingers cannot be asked to step up in Europe out of their positions at such young ages. So who do we have that would cover for Sturridge? Eto'o to me just doesn't make sense, his wages are enormous and this 'team' mentality we've built? Yeah, I don't think Eto'o really falls under that umbrella either. We're constantly told there's money there, as has been evident this transfer window, but to allow us to go into the season with only Eto'o as back up for our main man is incredibly risky.

Either way, Eto'o will get my support if he pulls on the red, but I genuinely cannot see at all why he would be considered.

Firmino, Son, Volland, Lacazette (even if he says he wants to stay, money talks) - Yes, they'd cost more, but they are all players who could play to the teams strengths, are young yet experienced and most of all would add to our forward line for longer than a year, instead of pinning hopes on the arrival of a young lad a year later who still has a lot to learn.

Would be absolutely over the moon with Konoplyanka. Been a massive fan of his for a while now. Yes, he's primarily a winger, but he has the capacity to play anywhere across the front. Whilst I agree we should be looking at another striker, I'd take Kono in a heartbeat. In regards to our influx of wingers, it's worth noting Ibe is still very young and needs time to develop, and Markovic will also need time to adjust too. I genuinely think you could drop Kono straight into the team and he'd have an instant impact. Unbelievable pace, wicked shot, tracks back and gets stuck into tackles too. I have no doubt at all he would be a massive hit in the Premier League.

Sturridge, Sterling, Lallana, Markovic, Konoplyanka, Lambert, Henderson, Coutinho, Gerrard. There's a LOT of goals in our players right there.

Remember when we had to play Shelvey up top against West Ham back in December 2012 as we had no recognised strikers? What a difference a year and half can make under a forward-thinking manager.

The future is looking good.

Apologies if it's already been mentioned on here, but Spearing was made captain of BWFC at the weekend. Fair play to the lad, obviously didn't quite make the cut here even though you could see how much he wanted to, but still great to see him doing well there.
