One of the football headlines today: 'Man City sign keeper for £35 million' and Sky are saying that LFC have bid for the Dutch defender De Vrij but the bid is well below the player's valuation (again) . Compare the two approaches.

HL9

1.) 08 Jun 2017 11:31:10
How can you compare them? Did City over-pay or did they haggle hard to get him for 35m? Are his wages extortionate or not? What does this in any way have to do with us and De Vrij?

2.) 08 Jun 2017 11:59:27
I think he mean how frustrating it is to see City, Arsenal and soon United just wraping up their deals early, while we just keep on digging ourself deeper and deeper into the dirt.

3.) 08 Jun 2017 12:40:22
Isn't De Vrij in the final year of his contract?

4.) 08 Jun 2017 13:39:47
I'm sure he's got 5yrs left.

5.) 08 Jun 2017 15:14:53
Reusch, your thinking of VVD De Vrij is on his last year, and will go for maybe 20 or 25 mill, but VVD is the better player, and will be a better fit for us .

6.) 09 Jun 2017 13:51:48
You shouldn't compare the approaches per se, look deeper at the background. How come City has all the revenue? Is it fair then? Just support the team, many were baffled by 25m splashed for Wijnaldum and 30m for Manè. City bought Mangala and Stones, compare me this.

7.) 09 Jun 2017 14:15:13
Ah sorry 👍.

04 Jun 2017 00:20:05
I have just read on an Egyptian website that Klopp spoke to Salah on the phone and told him that he sees him as an important player for LFC. Liverpool, though, has to pay the asking price.

HL9

1.) 04 Jun 2017 00:28:40
I'd expect it to be done soon especially now that personal terms have been agreed.

Can one of the eds please tell me who was the first Muslim to play for LFC. Was it Titi Camara? Thanks.

HL9

{Ed001's Note - I don't know sorry.}

1.) 07 May 2018 14:39:01
Do not bring religion to football.

If only you knew football itself is the biggest religion in the world. :)

2.) 07 May 2018 17:08:13
Having a Muslim/ Jewish/ insert faith here player means a lot to some people and quite honestly its an inclusive sport, if somebody wants to bring their religion onto the game as long as it doesn’t affect another then why not bring it in as long as it’s done in a friendly way.

3.) 07 May 2018 17:32:38
It could have been Titi. Was he before Nabil El-Zhar? We also had a defender that only played about 5 games called Carl Medjani who I'm sure was also muslim.

Did everyone know that Emre Can's muslim?

4.) 07 May 2018 17:40:23
Pretty impossible question to answer as footballers do not always reveal their religion. That’s a good thing in my opinion.

{Ed025's Note - i agree ron..

5.) 07 May 2018 19:38:15
Exactly Ron. That's why I mention Emre.

6.) 07 May 2018 19:58:27
Spot on, Ron. For ex., I did not know Emre Can was a practising Muslim until last week.

7.) 08 May 2018 02:04:09
I agree Ron, it's all irrelevant. It doesn't matter to me what the players religion is, it's football. Their religious beliefs are for their own time and space, all I'm bothered about is what happens on that pitch.

Who was that gem of a goalkeeper for Newcastle against the Mancs yesterday? I believe he is with them on loan. We should go after him.

HL9

1.) 12 Feb 2018 12:08:44
Martin Dubravka, Slovakian keeper on loan for the rest of the season. Shearer reckons they have a loan to buy for £4m in place. We all know Rafa has an eye for a good keeper (Reina) . It has been papered over that Dubravka nearly knocked himself out on his own defenders knee though and needed his defenders on the line to bail him out big time.

He was great barring that one mistake though.

2.) 12 Feb 2018 12:09:16
Do you not have access to a computer?

3.) 12 Feb 2018 12:26:47
Yep, there is no better way we should be buying players. One match and a good performance. At that rate will be biddinh on about 18 players every weekend.

4.) 12 Feb 2018 12:58:27
Swisch, that's how we got Bogdan for the disaster we now know of. The guy let in a goal directly from a corner kick. Brilliant recruitment by the "genius" BR.

5.) 12 Feb 2018 23:36:29
Lol rover, I forgot about his man of the match performance against us! Think he made more saves against us in 1 game than he did playing for us!

30 Dec 2017 21:48:29
I can see Van Dijk becoming a LFC captain soon. He is strong and vocal on the pitch. What do you guys think?

HL9

1.) 30 Dec 2017 22:21:24
He certainly has the qualities to become one, however, for him to become the Captain (or anyone else for that matter), he has to demonstrate consistency in his performance, showing that he can drag the team out of difficult situations when required. The reason no one disagrees with the Gerrard's, Terry's, Ramos's or the Ferdinand's being top Captain's is because they have time and again demonstrated qualities which have rescued the team when most needed. If VVD or anyone else for that matter can demonstrate those qualities on a consistent basis (atleast for a season), then yes, they fully deserve to be made Captain!

2.) 30 Dec 2017 23:22:08
He's not even played a game yet.

3.) 30 Dec 2017 23:37:35
I think VVD shouyld be allowed to focus on his game at LFC cos tho very talented, his game needs a LOT of work. The capt. stuff does not help. IMO.

4.) 30 Dec 2017 23:58:14
Has he even been registered as a Liverpool player yet? Far far too early to talk about him being captain.

06 Nov 2017 12:43:05
Klopp said LFC scouts convinced him to buy Salah. It's a pity they didn't convince him to buy an alternative to Van Dijk.

HL9

1.) 06 Nov 2017 14:59:04
And had they had a few poor games Klopp would have likely got slated by fickle fans! I for one hope we get Van Dijk hopefully in January.

Hello ED1.I am fifty two and I remember that I was impressed with the Argentinian Passarella. He was not tall for a centre back but he was great in the air. In your opinion, was he good?

HL9

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, it was before my time really, I only vaguely remember him.}

1.) 02 Nov 2017 20:57:45
From what I remember of him he was solid, not much got past him but he could play as well, was an all round excellent defender. I think he was the captain of Argentina if I remember correctly, and very well respected, not so well known here but there wasnt the social media etc that you get now.

I do remember him being on the front cover of a huge world cup poster on my bedroom wall though 😄 (among others), at a time when the World Cup seemed to be a much bigger thing than it is now. No Champions League, Sky etc back then.

Good shout though HL, had forgotten all about him.

He would not have worked wonders but he would have addressed our obvious problems. And don't tell me he tried to sign Van Dijk. Given the bad defenders we have, there were other alternatives.

He was good mate. He put in some tempting crosses but we don't have a predator in the box to take full advantage of them.

Hi Ed2. Why would Salah prefer to play on the right when his right foot isn't great?

HL9

{Ed002's Note - He is primarily a right winger who cuts inside.}

If he moves to Liverpool, there will be fireworks but I guess it won't happen. I blame a short circuit somewhere.
