Hi Eds,

Did Liverpool ever looked at Drewsberry Hall the Liecester City midfielder as our midfield option?

He did have good game against Liverpool.

GerrardsLFC

{Ed002's Note - I think suggestions of interest from Liverpool are well wide of the mark.}

1.) 24 Aug 2023 10:41:27
No positional sense and he would be a open door in our midfield.

19 Aug 2023 17:14:37
Hi Ed's,
Possible to share what has happened to Liverpools internet in Matheus Nunes?
Understand we had scouted him as an alternative to Bellingham.

GerrardsLFC

{Ed002's Note - A good question. Was certainly of interest and again very versatile. Right now I still see Gravenberch as the focus for that versatile position and Doucoure as the DM priority if available It leaves w
Endo as a squad player but the side would, in my view be better off.}

1.) 19 Aug 2023 17:38:27
If we could secure dacoure and gravenberch and a left footed centre half (although robbo had his best game
In this new formation for a while today )

Offload
Nat
Tsimi

The squad would look a lot more balanced and like you say healthier.

2.) 19 Aug 2023 17:46:52
Agree ed002
Up the pool.

3.) 19 Aug 2023 18:52:58
Wouldn’t that be too many MF?
Saz
Mac
Endo
Graven
Doucoure
Jones
Elliot
Bag
Thiago

That’s 9 players for 3 positions!

4.) 19 Aug 2023 19:22:10
Thiago gone in 12 months or this summer. You can make 5 subs and play in Europe, so 8 feels about right.

5.) 19 Aug 2023 19:36:44
I’d say 9 is bang on as it’s the area of the pitch which needs the most refreshing throughout the season.

6.) 19 Aug 2023 20:46:53
Jones and Thiago love a injury I’d take them out of the equation.

7.) 19 Aug 2023 20:59:04
Last season we had
Henderson
Milner
Keita
Fabinho
Ox
Arthur
Thiago
Jones
Elliott
Bag.

8.) 19 Aug 2023 19:54:05
ED002 - Are Crystal Palace looking at Doucoure replacements just in case they sell him? I think you mentioned Thuram and someone else they've looked at. Hoping Liverpool try for him. We miss that kind of player. Happy to RTFP if you've already answered this. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - They would like to avoid selling which is what they have told an interested side but if the price were "right" that may change.}

9.) 19 Aug 2023 21:48:43
There aren’t many teams in the league, if any, who have the depth in midfield that we’ve had.

10.) 19 Aug 2023 23:50:58
Red carded today and deserved it. Acting like a pr1ck.

No thanks ?.

11.) 20 Aug 2023 01:09:56
Think I remember stevie g getting sent off against manutd within a couple of mins of coming on, acting like a prick doesn't make u a bad player.

12.) 20 Aug 2023 05:40:37
I think an experienced core of Doucoure, Macca, Szobo, Thiago, Jones and Endo and then 2 very talented youngsters in Elliott and Bajcetic would be perfect, but if Gravenberch comes in we could let Thiago leave.

That setup has a great balance of defence and attack and we also have the option to play Trent in midfield if we need another option.

13.) 20 Aug 2023 07:10:16
VVD looks much better, although the defensive organisation remains a shambles.

14.) 20 Aug 2023 08:32:47
I agree monkey but the team setup was dangerously open for the first 20mins with Trent tucking into midfield and Konate almost playing as a RB when we had possession and were building from the back. It left a 30 yards gap between our CBs for them to counterattack into if we lost possession, which we did a few times.

It was only once Trent started staying a bit wider or Szobo covered that role, and the CBs could close up a bit more that we felt more solid. I even thought we looked decent once we went to 10 and played a 4-4-1!

Hopefully we learn from the game and start to step up with a bit more balance, and then I reckon VVD and Konate could become an awesome partnership this season.

15.) 20 Aug 2023 09:32:26
I understand what you mean Ron but most players not carried away at some point or other. I seem to remember Nunez head butting someone last season but he’s not a prick or a bad player. Nunez isn’t exactly Roy Keane or Joey Barton going out to hurt people, just acted stupidly in the moment which I am sure he probably regrets.

16.) 20 Aug 2023 11:30:55
I remember hearing when nunes joined wolves that he had 40ish million clause. Was there any truth in that eds?

{Ed002's Note - It is irrelevant.}

17.) 20 Aug 2023 11:52:42
Ed002, who do you think is the alternative to the DM spot if the club does no manage to secure Doucoure?

{Ed002's Note - I expect Liverpool would use Endo.}

18.) 20 Aug 2023 13:11:12
Personally of the opinion that now we have Endo, should rather try get Andre in for January rather than Doucoure now.

19.) 20 Aug 2023 14:05:41
no way was that a red card.

17 Jul 2020 02:44:14
EDs,
Since there is a talk of first choice CB signing, you think Liverpool could yet make a cheeky bid for Conor Coady. He has been fantastic.
thanks.

GerrardsLFC

{Ed002's Note - No, I don't think that would happen.}

1.) 17 Jul 2020 11:23:42
Coach couldn’t play in a high line imo.

2.) 17 Jul 2020 13:03:29
What is a cheeky bid?

3.) 17 Jul 2020 18:32:43
A cheeky bid is what people do on property shows. :-) Waste of time in football.

4.) 18 Jul 2020 15:13:36
Maybe when they send the offer they send a cheeky message slagging of one of their mums or something.

5.) 18 Jul 2020 18:17:29
I don't think Coady will be anywhere near as good without playing in a back 3. He looks very good in that Wolves defence but put him in our high line back four and he'd struggle.

24 Jan 2018 02:51:55
Hi Ed's

What happened to the older Liverpool targets like -
Maxime Lopez (said Gerrard spoke to him he will replace Coutinho after 5 years)
Ante Coric ( dubbed Croatian Messi)
I thought Liverpool have had shown some interest in these young players.

So far looking at Liverpool academy, we don't see any attaching midfielder stepping up to first team. Ben Woodburn looks more of a Winger and so does Harry Wilson/ Ryan Kent.

GerrardsLFC

{Ed002's Note - ML is still at Marseille and they are continuing to fight off the interest of Real madrid and Barcelona. Coric is still of interest to Spurs but has sensibly not moved yet.}

1.) 24 Jan 2018 09:23:55
Ovie Ejaria and Yan Dhanda.
Which reminds me, do any Eds know if Dhanda is happy and expected to stay and start pushing for first team next season?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know sorry.}

2.) 24 Jan 2018 10:02:53
Curtis Jones.

3.) 24 Jan 2018 10:09:09
Ejaria is highly rated by Klopp and Critchley. He's coming on very well this season.

Rafa Camacho is also seen as one for the future.

4.) 24 Jan 2018 11:47:14
Ante coric is close to moving to Roma from what i've read in the Croatian media recently.

5.) 25 Jan 2018 06:30:59
what about brewster?

6.) 25 Jan 2018 14:28:15
Brewster is highly rated but injured at the moment, ankle injury.

15 Aug 2017 09:33:09
Hi Ed's,

Is there a possibility to sign Julian Brandt if at all Coutinho is leaving?

GerrardsLFC

{Ed001's Note - that ship has sailed.}

1.) 15 Aug 2017 10:24:00
Like our transfer window except That ship has sunk.

2.) 15 Aug 2017 10:28:06
Anything further on Meyer?

{Ed001's Note - no.}

3.) 15 Aug 2017 10:48:12
Brandt made it clear, that he wants to resolve the mess of a season they had last year and a move to Bayern with a pre-agreement beeing rumoured in German meadia.

Max Meyer on the other hand would be available. He didn't want to sign a new contract and he said "Who knows, the market is open for another month (said that a few weeks ago) and there is still a chance for a fresh start somewhere else. For now im excited for the new season". His contract ends 2018.

4.) 15 Aug 2017 10:56:37
Meyer is not in coutinho's bracket. He is another potential who will need a couple of years to hit the peak. We should look at established players. Meyer and Woodburn what are the differences?

5.) 15 Aug 2017 11:02:24
So what's our plan ED001?!

{Ed001's Note - our plan? Are you suggesting that LFC have plans? They have no idea about forward planning, that much is obvious!}

6.) 15 Aug 2017 11:17:16
Difference between woodburn and Meyer is a few years more experience. I agree he is still getting better, as coutinio was when we bought him.

7.) 15 Aug 2017 11:21:34
Our summer plans? Waste almost the entire transfer window chasing after players that we are told aren't available. keep chasing them. suddenly find out Barcelona are after our best player. discover that he actually wants to leave. return to chase players that aren't available and then realise we have no plan B for
1. The original players we were after
2. a plan to replace our best player who if off to Barcelona.

Then immediately realise that we are no better than we were last season due to all of the above.

MDS.

8.) 15 Aug 2017 11:32:03
Sad but true myredog.

9.) 15 Aug 2017 12:08:41
Spot on, Faith. Meyer is not in Cou's league. He will be a project just like Woody is so why sign him, exactly?

10.) 15 Aug 2017 12:34:41
So liverpool should have only one extremely promising youngster? Meyer has more experience at the top level. He is quite similar to woodburn although I think Meyer is a little better. I hope we go for him. At least we would be going for someone who wants the move.

11.) 15 Aug 2017 14:17:08
Have I really just seen someone ask what's the difference between Woodburn and Max Meyer? A regular in the Schalke side and Germany, then a lad who rarely fractures for a poor Liverpool side? Jesus, I know Woodburn has potential but don't say silly things like that.

12.) 15 Aug 2017 15:27:16
Agree with everything you said redbutcher until you said "a poor liverpool side" Man, did you watch us last term. I'm biast but we were the best team in the league until mane loss, then PC loss. Did you see the way klopp had us playing in the last few games? Cagey and solid. Very clever. And players like firmino and Can, DS played it excellently.

13.) 15 Aug 2017 16:09:13
We must be a poor side cos we did not win the league last season, as if anyone thought we could do that with the team we had with all the holes in them.

14.) 15 Aug 2017 19:09:24
Poor Liverpool team, how can you say it's not? We have very little class in depth? We have a defence that a mid table team wouldn't be proud of? Wake up our team is a myth. We have a very good attack. Miles off the pace. We haven't won a trophy in the last 5 years? Poor side maybe harsh in some people's eyes, but everyone can agree with under achieving as a better adjective. I know what I've said is very negative. But when you pay your money to watch from the stands week in week out, you have the right to state your views.

15.) 16 Aug 2017 07:41:29
Fair enough redbutcher. Liverpool fans have been spoiled and think winning trophies is a right. Most fans never see their team win anything. I'm not having a go dude, but I will disagree, I think our team oozes class but needs more Players. Defence were class against hoffenhiem. I think we are a great team. In a mini league of the top 7 terms last season we would have been at the top. I think that says it all. We didn't once get beat by a top team. Firminio lallana mane salah Hendo can taa, all amazing.

16.) 17 Aug 2017 21:50:00
For me buying him would be a repeat of the Ibe and Markovic situation where the club spent good money on a player they essentially already had and screwed up on both. If have a choice I'd put the time and effort into the 17 year old with potential rather than spend money on an older player whose advantage comes from age and game time and isn't significantly enough better to justify blocking existing players.

15 Aug 2023 00:45:40
Dear Ed's,

Do share your opinion on -
1. Why we are not going back to Sofyan Arambat, he seems experienced, cheap and stop gap solutions for our number 6.
2. Had a feeling that Tyler Morton could get a run in that position, too bad he is out injured. 3. How many scouts do we have? And what all leagues do they scout?

Thanks for your time.

GerrardsLFC

{Ed001's Note - 1. I would assume because he is not that good.

2. I doubt he would have got much of a chance.

3. It varies as a lot of scouts are freelance.}

1.) 15 Aug 2023 05:46:50
Shame to hear that about Morton, Ed. I would have thought he'd be a decent squad player. Looks like he'll most likely be sent out on loan or end up like the midfield version of Phillips.

{Ed001's Note - yep that does seem to be the way it is heading. He could have saved a fair bit of money for the club as a cheap option to pad out the squad.}

2.) 15 Aug 2023 07:26:57
While you’re at it Ed, in a worse case scenario where we don’t sign anyone else, do you think Bajcetic can be the starter there? I was just looking at some highlights last season and obviously my mental notes remembering how he was so impressive and composed in the middle of the park.

Would it be a better solution rather than getting somebody who may or may not acclimatise well?

{Ed001's Note - I would prefer to see Trent in there but yes, I am sure he is fully capable too.}

3.) 15 Aug 2023 07:39:50
Ed01, I have only seen Amrabat play once and sorry, he is definitely not who we need and is not a patch on Fabinho or even Mac10. Now here’s a guy who makes a living passing sideways with no variety at all after winning the ball.

Fab was very underrated fit hi passing ability and was actually able to provide assists or the pre-assists as they call it now. Not sure he is the answer. At least Mac10 tho not a DM really helped compensate for that a bit due to his press resistance and great vision and passing. Amrabat ain’t it, imo.

4.) 15 Aug 2023 07:53:26
And put someone at RB like you mentioned last time right Ed?

I’m still a bit miffed that we looked narrow in a large portion of the match; Chelsea was able to play around the width with James and Chilwell. Something I hope you’d address in your review as well mate?

And i think one of the posters also mentioned how bizarre it was to see Trent all the way to the left once or twice.

{Ed001's Note - yes, Bradley when fit needs to be the right back going forward.}

5.) 15 Aug 2023 07:54:27
Morton struggled last season for Blackburn so is clearly not ready to play for Liverpool, another Championship loan is needed.

6.) 15 Aug 2023 08:21:18
I was under the impression that Morton had played fairly well for Blackburn and was a regular in a team that just missed the playoffs, until he picked up a knock late season.

7.) 15 Aug 2023 09:18:13
Azk2, I think that was due to the lack of DM in the team thru the middle to sheiks the heart of the defence meaning, we were okay with funnelling things out in side areas.

The issue with that was that Chelsea did a good job overloading the flanks with Sterling and James on top of Robbo with no help from Gakpo. And with Chillwell and Chukwuemeka or Enzo or Jackson at times vs Trent. It was what it was, I think.

8.) 15 Aug 2023 09:26:19
I thought that too @SR. He seemed to be getting some good reviews. Looks like he’s not considered quite good enough by the club though.

9.) 15 Aug 2023 09:54:48
I watched Blackburn a few times and every time Morton and Wharton were the two best players on the pitch for either team. He had a very good season for them until he broke his foot. He played as a single pivot DM as well. Shame he missed pre-season as i think he deserves a chance next season in the Cups and he might not get it now.

25 May 2021 05:01:18
Is it just me who feels Ibrahima Konate is just another Andre Wisdom (look wise)

I feel Liverpool should go for a trsuted Premeir League defender than anyone from other leagues.
It shouldn't surprise if Matip was moved and Davis was given a chance or another reliable free agent was brought,
Kabaks loan was extended and
Philips and Rhyes satyed.

Money could well be spent on a versatile Midfielder like Yves Bissouma, De Paul or Sander Berge.

Hopefully someone bids for Bobby and we can cash in on him now rather than later and get either Sarr or bring back Ingsy.

With majority of squad getting a break, proper preseason, hope they will all be able to perform to level best that they did on 2019-2020 season.

GerrardsLFC

1.) 25 May 2021 06:34:11
I myself would keep kabak, I'm not sold on konate. With money saved from the lower fee and some out goings, would go for rodrigo de Paul to replace gini and pats on daka for another forward. Obviously we need to move origi on and shakiri.

2.) 25 May 2021 06:48:57
OP, The Konate and Wisdom comparison is well, I’ll leave that alone. As for Matip, Ed02 has said Klopp is not looking to move him on right now. Davies? Do you know what he looks like cos the last I heard was that he is not even a real person, let alone a footballer.

As for Bobbie, I doubt he will be going anywhere and if anything, we should get another forward in to play with the front 4 cos Salah and Mane will be off to the AFCON. And yes, I hope we do get Bisouma.

3.) 25 May 2021 08:10:13
Did you just post that we shouldn’t buy Konate because he looks like Andre Wisdom?

4.) 25 May 2021 08:40:35
I tell you, there is some truly strange stuff appearing on these pages at times.

5.) 25 May 2021 09:08:27
I understand that Wisdom and Konate would only look alike to *some* people :rolleyes:

6.) 25 May 2021 09:12:53
So hang on. You don’t want to sign Konate you want to try Davis (who obviously Klopp doesn’t fancy) or a free agent and you want to replace Bobby with Danny Ings?
Wow.
I’ll free up my Thursday nights for the 2022/ 2023 season shall I?

7.) 25 May 2021 09:23:04
IDreamOfGini and Zed, you see why I chose not to engage in such a comparison?

8.) 25 May 2021 09:35:15
look wise? jesus christ man.

08 Mar 2021 02:33:14
Wasn't to happy with the result, the lineup.

Being an ardent supporter it doesn't bother me at all, just enjoy the Team playing every week in red.

The only thing worries me is if the Team looses its focus it may take it a season or two to comeback as Title challenger, and that I think is bad for Brand Liverpool.

But you know what we will still be supporting and cheering our team.

GerrardsLFC

1.) 08 Mar 2021 03:48:48
Was thrilled to see the banner that was flown over the Anfield.

2.) 08 Mar 2021 07:10:10
yes 6 in a row it was a nice touch.

3.) 08 Mar 2021 07:57:21
No body is enjoying watching the team play atm, it’s painful.

09 Jul 2020 15:27:51
Eds,
Any chances of getting Ismaila Sarr as replacement for Divock Origi?
The guy looks strong and can drive the ball forward.
thanks.

GerrardsLFC

{Ed002's Note - No.}

1.) 09 Jul 2020 17:01:09
DIVOCK is much better imo.

2.) 09 Jul 2020 17:57:03
Sarr wanted to play every week hence, why he moved to Watford.

3.) 09 Jul 2020 20:05:41
I don't get why people want rid of Origi, I think he's a good backup and CAN do the job, he just isn't given enough gametime to show it. He's stepped up for us many times and deserves our support. Keep at all costs for me.

4.) 09 Jul 2020 21:35:30
Absolutely salah and Jon Row. Divok is much better.

5.) 10 Jul 2020 01:40:45
Origi has come up with big goals there's no disputing that. But every time he's had the chance to start games or play frequently when others out he has failed to perform far too often. At this stage it's fair that we need to consider the idea of upgrading to a player that may give us added consistency for the future as divock has not shown over last 3 or 4 years an actual step up in overall standard of performance.

Yes I admire his contribution of crucial goals but looking ahead that is not a trait that can be used as reasoning to think he will continue to give us in spite of his many weaknesses. Players like Luis Garcia, Ryan Babel, benayoun would be capable of coming up with many big moments at the right time yet they could also spend too many games as passengers or weakest player in the 11 to feel that they have showed their maximum capabilities over enough time and that it's possible to upgrade and get more influence from a player coming in fresh. Emre can was similar, few seasons of not flopping but also not reaching next gear, many of us were wanting him to sign a new contract in the hope he would suddenly turn into the class that he could show on brief occasions. I struggle to think how many games has origi played so well that he was the best performer or even up there as the best 2 or 3 players for a full game. His big moments e. g., Barca, Everton, Newcastle, spurs were not relative to his standard of play.

We can do better if we look for an alternative player to contribute more than origi gives for the amount of minutes he gets. I'd want the consistent input that mahrez, Jesus can give city, giroud offers Chelsea, Greenwood for United, Lucas moura aiding spurs as examples of players who spent periods of time not considered first choice but relied on to come in as best available back up and then consistently add top returns in seizing their chance. Origi when he starts far too often plays as the worst rated performer to warrant his role.

6.) 10 Jul 2020 08:16:40
I think the problem is most players need a run of games to get going, origi too. Considering the low number of starts he has, I think it’s really hard to judge him. First game of season he starts, same freshness as everyone else - goal and assist. Everton two goals.

He’s not on the level of the front three but I don’t think you’re going to get too much better for that role and he has the positive of being settled and somewhat of a hero. We have an amazing front three and 99% of players will show a ‘considerable drop in quality’ when they replace them. I’d say keep him and give him the chance to play more regularly - I firmly believe we need to win games just starting two of the regular front three (for rest) and not just play them three week in week out, then rest all three for cups/ Everton.

14 May 2019 03:33:29
Hi Eds,

If Man City win the FA Cup, does it mean Community Shield shall be our first game of next season?

thanks.

GerrardsLFC

{Ed001's Note - should be yes. If you count it as it is just another friendly.}

1.) 14 May 2019 05:28:09
Do you just count is as another friendly personally, Ed1?

{Ed001's Note - yes. 100% just a friendly.}

2.) 14 May 2019 06:11:35
Do the winners get price money ed01?if yes how much?

{Ed001's Note - it is meant to be a charity game to raise funds for charity, nothing else. Though the FA contributes so little of the proceeds to charity they had to drop the name of Charity Shield and change it to Community Shield.}

3.) 14 May 2019 09:01:38
Wrong page and all that Eds but is there any truth in those reports about a CL ban for City which are going about today via the New York Times? No idea if that is a rag or a serious newspaper.

{Ed002's Note - You may be jumping the gun a bit but there are ongoing issues - this is nothing new.}

4.) 14 May 2019 08:23:00
Can we count it as a trophy though please🤨.

5.) 14 May 2019 09:42:00
Jose counts it as a trophy - as do various Man Utd and Chelsea fans desperate enough. It’s like the European super cup - high profile friendlies which mean nothing.

6.) 14 May 2019 11:32:29
Let’s hope we win the CL, Super cup and the Community shield.

7.) 14 May 2019 11:52:25
Please ed01 leta count it as a trophy. maybe if we win it with our youngsters it can be a wonderful experience for them.

8.) 14 May 2019 11:59:20
I wouldn't count the super cup as just a friendly, after all, you need to have won in Europe to get there.

Considering his has just 3-4 years left in his career, being the Star player and not being the highest earner at Liverpool he is right to seek higher wages somewhere else. What they say a bird in hand is better than 2 in bush.

TBH, he beat De Bruyne for PFA player of the year on half the wages. Also when he sees Sterling/ Grelish/ Werner/ Lukaku earn more than him and not perform anywhere near to his level he is right to seek more or turn his.

Isn't it what every employee does?

Sure Liverpool FC won't break the wage structure. I wouldn't want to stand in his way if any club offered decent amount for him.

The pressure should be on scouting team to identify a replacement in this window itself who can slot in seamlessly.

I bet if Man City or Chelsea comes and offer Liverpool 50+ mil for him and huge salary.

How did Sturridge stay fit under Brendan Rodgers? was it down to the Training methods?
thanks.

{Ed001's Note - it was mainly down to the main damage not having been done by England at that point.}

Ed's any comments on Wijnaldum's performance, he makes Shelvey look better.

{Ed001's Note - he is still getting used to the way we play. I will judge him after at least 10 games.}

If the player is right player for our midfield and if I am the manager, I would do everything to get him to Liverpool. Trade in Ox and Philips if necessary or Carvalho as well. We desperately need a player who can put in a shift week in and week out.

Hi have a gut feeling Ox will be sold before window shuts, and that's when we may make move for Nunes or wait until January window and play Carvalho and Curtis Jones.

The young chap plays so good can't make a difference if its Coutinho or Carvalho.
And another one Stefan Bajcetic he looks promising, hope to see him more since we have 5 subs this season.

Brothers there are tell-tale signs, with a midfield of Thiago-Keita-Ox, we will be chasing Top 4 at best.
History of injuries and games missed by them says we need a reliable midfielder.
