Question for the eds. Do you see us trying to complete any business before the WC kicks off. Seeing as our transfer window closes 2 weeks before everyone else? Or do you see the summer window being even more frantic towards the deadline?

{Ed001's Note - I expect Premier League clubs to look to do business early, though it will no doubt be a frantic rush after the WC as well.}

1.) 23 Feb 2018 09:33:58
Morning Ed, I have been reading some of the midfield suggestions you have made and the type of players we might target. I understand the urgent need to liven up the midfield and bring the much needed energy. My worry is agains't teams like Spurs, and City they will pin us back at the end of games when we drop off and we still won't be able to control games.

I don't know as well how those type of players will help with the breaking down of the so called park the bus teams, Man U etc. In an ideal world you want the player to have great energy, awareness
and ability on the ball but that probably isn't possible. I think I slightly favour the more technically gifted player, we really need someone to to be able to control a game.

Maybe we could target both types of player for the midfield? But as we also need goals and assists from the midfield and the ability to cover the front 3 it is going to take some real quality recruitment (and plenty dosh) .

{Ed001's Note - Ndidi is very good on the ball and still young enough to improve.}

2.) 23 Feb 2018 10:25:34
ok thanks for the reply.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

3.) 23 Feb 2018 11:01:59
Ed am I right in thinking Ndidi is a player you have suggested and would like, and not a player we have shown any interest in yet mate?

{Ed001's Note - yes you are right. I wish we would go for him, but we have shown no interest.}

4.) 23 Feb 2018 12:29:58
Ed1 it's Gary Medel all over again haha.

{Ed001's Note - very much so.}

5.) 23 Feb 2018 12:48:32
Yes Ndidi!

6.) 23 Feb 2018 13:26:26
Thoughts on Kovacic/ Ceballos Ed1? And out of interest have we shown interest in Kovacic (I know we have Ceballos) . Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - not in Kovacic, who has not performed well since moving to Madrid. Ceballos we have, I am sceptical on him, never really impressed me as anything special. I have not seen a lot of him though, so I could have just missed what he offers.}

7.) 23 Feb 2018 13:43:43
Thanks for the reply Ed1. I would agree with you on Kovacic this season. When I saw some of the games he played in last season I thought he doing alright, just my opinion though and I didn't see every game he played in.

{Ed001's Note - I didn't see him much last season either, even while in Spain as the coverage of Real Madrid is just sickening out there. I am just relaying what I was told as to why our previously held interest has waned, rather than giving my opinion on him. Sorry I should have made that clear, my mistake. I normally try and make it clear when it is not my opinion, apologies.}

8.) 23 Feb 2018 13:57:28
No problem Ed1. Realistically it is hard to monitor firsthand every player we could be interested in so I guess we base some of our judgement on sources we trust.

{Ed001's Note - I used to try and make an effort to watch as many as I could, but these days I don't have time with all the research for the articles, as well as writing them.}

9.) 23 Feb 2018 13:58:42
If we're taking anyone from Madrid in my opinion it should be Asensio. The kid oozes class every time I watch him.

Keita and Henderson with Asensio in front of them behind our front 3, there would be no need to buy defenders we'd just score 10 a game.

{Ed001's Note - Klopp is one of many who would love to add him in the summer.}

10.) 23 Feb 2018 15:42:50
I'd take Asensio over Lemar, that kid has potential to win the Balon D'Or one day.

I can't be the only one wondering if salah will break andy Coles 34 goals.7 more.

1.) 17 Mar 2018 21:36:42
He's got a great chance. He scored more in a game than some first choice forwards score in a season. Troy deeney's been looking pretty proud of himself recently with 3 goals in 4 games. Salah four goals in 1 game.

2.) 17 Mar 2018 22:04:58
Not bothered if he does or does not break that record. I am just in awe of him. I also, want all of us to sit for a moment and realize the greatness that we are all witnessing right before our very eyes in Mo Salah.

3.) 17 Mar 2018 22:06:36
The 34 goals happened in a 40 game season, not 38!

In a 38 game season it's 31 shared by Ronaldo, Suarez and also Shearer!

But if he can keep scoring and have one more game where he gets 3-4, could be possible he breaks the 34 goal record :)

4.) 17 Mar 2018 22:09:55
Fatboynotslim. andy coles record is when the league had 22 teams. The record he needs to beat is actually 32. Suarez came so close but ended up matching it. If a wide forward of ours manages to even match it, it would be an incredible feat.

5.) 17 Mar 2018 22:17:29
Andy Coles record was set over 42 games. Not only might he beat the current 38 game record of 31 goals currently held by Shearer, C. Ronaldo and Suarez but he might beat the 42 game record too. He is having an outstanding season.

6.) 17 Mar 2018 22:37:47
I think i could have been wrong about the 40 a season. was it 42? I think TIA has confirmed this saying 22 teams in the league! My bad. But anyhow, salah has an amazing record :)

7.) 17 Mar 2018 23:25:31
I think that's right but I'd gladly be stood corrected. 31 is the record in 38 games, apologies my 8 Irish Guinness' made me think it was 32! Either way, Salah is doing unbelievable for a typical wide forward.

8.) 18 Mar 2018 00:23:39
Great post BRover. So easy to get caught up in everything else and somewhat take for granted the brilliance that is happening before our very eyes. I just find myself speechless with a big grin from ear to ear watching Salah.

9.) 18 Mar 2018 00:23:47
Should def let him take all penalties from now to boost his chances. Knock Andy Cole of his perch!

10.) 18 Mar 2018 02:15:38
I think we all know, I'm going to break the record. I promise.

18 Feb 2018 22:07:21
Evening all. Just re watched the match and it fills me with confidence in our chances in the champions league. I know our defence isn't solid and we will concede but psg and real defences aren't impenetrable by far. Not comparing us to them as that's not the point of this post. I just think that although our performances in Europe will make other teams take notice of us they still can't play us with a game plan to park buses as it's knockout competition. So as long as teams attack us we will get opportunities and right now I can't see a deadlier front 3 in Europe. And I'm not saying that with red tinted glasses either. Kindly shoot me down if you feel otherwise or let me know your thoughts on our prospects.

{Ed0333's Note - Two issues lead me to believe we can’t win the competition. Our midfield isn’t of standard and we are an inexperienced team. Can we game manage a semi final or even a final? I hope I’m wrong and such is the rich tapestry of football anything can happen. After all Everton scored against us at Anfield this season.

1.) 18 Feb 2018 22:42:33
Before everyone gets carried away about winning the CL just remember what happened after we beat Man City. Secondly we are yet to play a top side in CL yet. Of course that’s not our fault and we’ve beaten who we’ve been given but why can’t people get a bit of perspective. Our front 3 is the only part of our team which is high quality. The rest is not. Just read back at your own comments over the last 12 months. Unless improve considerably we are going to get found out and the likes of Can, Robertson, Matip and Milner are not going to make anyone lose any sleep. For now let’s focus on beating West Ham and Newcastle.

2.) 18 Feb 2018 22:50:02
I feel we can take any team over two legs but the final would be a lot about game management whiciv we seem to struggle with. Let's hope our boys and manager prove us wrong and go all the way and win the thing.

3.) 19 Feb 2018 00:09:52
we have our weaknesses like any team. as much as we need to keep perspective after wins like vs porto, we need to also not over scrutinize things if / when we get dumped out of the comp. we are right in it and have every chance to go as far as anyone!

on another point, our midfield is the concern for me. still easy to turn them all around. hendo, milner, gini all guilty of over-pressing vs porto and leaving our defence exposed. couple chances came from those moments and on another day Porto score those goals. anyways, it's all to play for!

exciting huh!?

4.) 19 Feb 2018 00:13:46
I know exactly what you mean ed. If we were able to hold onto leads and see games out we would be second easy. And probably within a realistic striking distance of city. This is something you need to be able to do to won ucl. It has been better since Vvd came in but still, when we try to park a bus we always collapse. 2 0 leads don't feel safe like they should. We can apply pressure with the best of them but we can't take it. I still think we have a shout. If we play all super attacking teams in our run to final. Also, we do look more steady with Vvd. I harbour a hope.

5.) 19 Feb 2018 00:50:29
Our attack is lethal. If our midfield play like they did against City and our back four can continue to develop with VVD and Karius now in the team, we could get there. I think it will come down to Klopp's selections and substitutions on a game by game basis.

{Ed0333's Note - our midfield have to play like they did against City in the League at least 6 more times in the Champions League. I’m not sure they have that in them. I’m not being negative just a realist. Im the first one to admit that I besmirch this midfield on a regular basis and I would gladly eat humble pie if they won the damn thing.

6.) 19 Feb 2018 02:16:37
100% agree with with Razor. Lfc fans gets too excited too easily and then the team let's us down. just like they did at Swansea and West brom. i am not confident about the team until they win.

7.) 19 Feb 2018 02:40:56
You never know with the Champions League. Logic tends to go out of the window in these big games and players can play out of their skin. I do worry for the player's nerves, but going far in the competition is bound to give the team and Klopp essential experience. I think we have the quality to go all the way, but our midfield needs to be playing like their lives depend on it.

If we make the Semis I'd be delighted, it's a great platform to build on.

Deep down I know we're going to go all the way and win it, it's what Liverpool do in the CL, eh?

8.) 19 Feb 2018 09:19:17
The 2005 team didn't have much CL experience so i wouldn't worry so much about that but our midfield as Ed says is pretty weak.

Saying that, back in 2005 we had some players that had not right to be playing in a CL final and we somehow still won. I guess on our day we could beat anyone in a final but we could also go 2 up and get beat.

9.) 19 Feb 2018 09:58:00
You don't get to play like we did against city in the champions league later stages.

It's very tactical. Not open and all guns blazing, fast sweeping football.

You need to get your foot on the ball and start little 5 yard passes to take the sting out of the game or draw the opposition onto you and our team just cannot do that.

11.) 19 Feb 2018 10:41:33
We have a high high class defender in Vvd. We have some high class cms, Hendo for one. If our forward line we're the only high class part of lfc it would have been 5 4 not 5 0.

12.) 19 Feb 2018 10:52:07
I can help but feel we will be over runned in midfield if we meet big guns . Imagine Coutinho, Iniesta, Busquet vs Hendo Milner Can. They will literally walk through our midfield. Or if RM Casemiro, Modric, Kroos vs Wij, Ox, Can.

13.) 19 Feb 2018 13:51:54
Don't write our midfield off too easily. It's not a four man, game dominating midfield it is a dynamic protection for the back four, that quickly passes the ball onto the forwards.

In the games against the top boys I expect firmino to drop deep and help out if our boys get over run.

14.) 19 Feb 2018 17:27:16
I think a reality check is needed. This is our first season back in the CL did years and we have played Moscow, Seville and Porto. Which one of those teams are serious CL contenders? Which one of those teams would give Real, PSG or Barcelona any real trouble? Get real guys. Yes we may eventually do well, but you cannot seriously use what we’ve seen as a barometer of success against the very best. I suggest we focus on getting 3 points against West Ham abd Newcastle first.

30 Jan 2018 20:56:22
Underwhelming but leading comfortably. Won't count my eggs yet though. However observation I've made. Is there something going in Manes head in regards to his effort he looks very lacklustre I'm hoping it's just rust and not something deeper. Also I think in these games where the opposition sita back would we be better playing 2 ish at the back and ox or taa on the right and moreno/ Robertson on the left to stretch the pitch because salah and mane don't seem to recognize how staying wide create space. Sorry for the rant guys.

{Ed0333's Note - I’ve been worried about Mane for a while now. He’s had enough time to play his back into form so I’m hoping it’s not a legacy of his injuries. He really looks like he’s lost a bit of pace and he’s not even half the player he was. I truly hope I’m wrong and he recaptures his form and become the player we all love and revere because when he turns it on he’s unplayable.

1.) 30 Jan 2018 21:06:47
No need to change what's working I guess, would rather win tamely than dominate like against Swansea and lose/ draw.

{Ed0333's Note - absolutely.

2.) 30 Jan 2018 21:12:29
So not a case of mentality? He is definately a shadow of last season but I won't bash him. unless he has got coutinho aspirations.

3.) 30 Jan 2018 21:10:18
Totally agree Ed
I can't remember the last tome Mane beat someone with his pace definitely lost a yard.

{Ed0333's Note - manes demise is a real shame Wonker because the guy is mesmeric on his day. I really want him to come back firing on all cylinders because he’s meant to be a nice guy, does loads for charity etc etc. Hopefully he just needs a great game under his belt to be a catalyst

4.) 30 Jan 2018 21:25:51
Me too he was immense last season.

5.) 30 Jan 2018 21:57:34
I personally think with mane it's a confidence thing. I think he may feel like he has been demoted by salah from what was clearly his favoured position.
Hopefully once his mate shows up he'll get a wee burst of life back in him.

6.) 30 Jan 2018 21:59:19
Mane's most successful way of taking players on is give and go's. On the right side last season most of this was give and go's that played him in wide. On the left he seems more reluctant to do this and tends to play give and go's inside rather than outside. He is now tending to do this less and less as it's just too congested against teams that sit back. Why he's not confident to go wide? I don't know but he definitely plays in a different way from the left. Just my observations.

{Ed0333's Note - there’s been plenty of instances where he’s been playing on the left and had the opportunity to outpace an opposition player regardless of the scenario and he hasn’t done it.

7.) 30 Jan 2018 22:07:22
Think he'll be fine, he was playing quite well before the Moscow game and the Everton game seems to affected his play a bit.

He's still trying, just needs a bit of time and a good game and I'm sure he'll be raring to go.

8.) 30 Jan 2018 22:20:24
I think he should have a go on the right again - mix it up a bit, let him gas people on his stronger side - Salah will be fine on the left.

9.) 30 Jan 2018 22:25:07
Do you think manes dip in form has anything to do with mo being our main man so far this season. I mean last season mane was outstanding and it all seemed to be a about to him but this season so far we have Bobby playing superb, Phil was excellent and of course salah has so far been a sensation.

It might just be nothing but I get the feeling that mane wants to be the main man and maybe he just hasn't adjusted to playing in a team of many so called super stars. I'm probably over thinking things as my mind tends to wander. Oh look a pigeon.

10.) 30 Jan 2018 22:25:41
Let's just hope that whatever it is, he finds his way back soon. We need him if we are to do anything this season. 😃.

11.) 30 Jan 2018 22:29:48
So perhaps it's just a simple case that he feels less confident in beating an opponent on the left side. He's predominantly right footed so his touch to take a player on is with his right. It's easier from the right side to do this and gain that half a yard and then Mane uses his body to cut across brilliantly. On the left it's different.

He would need to shift it with his left which he doesn't do. So to shift it with your right doesn't gain you that half yard and doesn't give you a chance to get your body across an opponent. Salah tends to do the same. His movement is different to Mane's of last season. Still effective but it's starting to be predictable. I'd like to see a bit of rotation of the 3 up top. He did it with Salah and Firmno tonight. Perhaps Mane could be switched at times too.

12.) 30 Jan 2018 23:41:49
Mane has played on the left through out his career at Metz, Red Bull Salzburg and Saints. Only at LFC has he played on the right. Also, the last two worldies he has scored despite his sticky patch have been with his left foot so to me, that is not the issue. The injury to his hamstrings may have had a negative mental effect on him so he may be tentative to drive on those hamstring and accelerate at full pelt. Also, he seems to be forcing things and this is leading to a lot of technical lapses in his game right now.

The good thing is tho, that he is still scoring goals, assisting and getting into good positions to score like he did at Hudd so not too bothered cos even on a bad day, he is still a threat and that to me, is the most important thing as not many players are like that. We just have to support him all the way right now cos he is class, pure and simple. And to those saying he needs a kick up the backside, take a day off cos such useless comments do not help him right now.

13.) 31 Jan 2018 07:56:57
I haven't read the whole thread, and only read what the eds have written, but regarding Mane, didn't he have a dodgy second season when at Southampton, but then found his form again.

14.) 31 Jan 2018 13:44:48
Injuries can play on the mind a little while ( studhe being a good example of that) hamstring injuries ( I’ve had dozens) in my mind are the worst. Takes ages to Build the confidence to sprint full pelt he’ be fine by next season.

12 Jan 2018 09:19:47
Surely no club in their right mind would be willing to pay the reported 30million for sturridge. Are we pricing him out of a move? Bad enough his wages are so high surely to get him off the wage bill we will have to sell him for much cheaper than 30.maybe even 15.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool would pay that, and then some more to have him arrive before the weekend.}

1.) 12 Jan 2018 10:10:49
Naby Keita. Wink wink.

2.) 12 Jan 2018 10:14:21
Lets just hope he doesn't move to southampton, because god only knows how much we'll be buying him back for season after next.

3.) 12 Jan 2018 11:16:58
Oo Ed2.
Possibly the only reason I come on here now it to decipher your cryptic sarcastic Notes. I like it.
But it'll be pointless him coming now as he has to be registered by this afternoon?

4.) 12 Jan 2018 09:40:27
Lmao ed. Nice one.

5.) 12 Jan 2018 10:20:16
Is that that your way of telling us Ed that we might pay that to get Keita early 😳.

6.) 12 Jan 2018 12:42:55
I actually think Sturridge could still do a very good job for someone in the PL

I don't think his body can cope with our training methods which are required to play a high-tempo pressing game.

Put him in a side where everyone drops off, gets tight and compact and he doesn't have to do loads of chasing and I think it will both improve his chances of playing and scoring, and extend his career.

7.) 12 Jan 2018 14:04:46
Liverpool have agreed to pay 75 million euros for Keita. Straight from his agents mouth.

10 Jan 2018 20:25:23
Evening eds. Any update on Salads fitness for citeh at the weekend. We need to focus on avenging the hammering they gave us!

{Ed001's Note - personally speaking I always avoid the salad as its fitness benefits are very overrated.}

1.) 10 Jan 2018 20:48:53
Boom Ed😁.

{Ed001's Note - sorry I have been around Ed025 too long and it is ruining my ability to tell a gag. Please don't ask him to tell his latest one that we had to endure on the editors' widget or I fear we will lose half our readership in disgust at just how bad it is!}

2.) 10 Jan 2018 21:09:08
Spinach is very good for you 🤝.

{Ed001's Note - didn't do much for Olive Oyl.}

3.) 10 Jan 2018 21:16:49
loving sun dried tomatoes these days on my Salahd.

4.) 10 Jan 2018 21:25:57
Salah trained today.

5.) 10 Jan 2018 21:21:47
Who is Salad?

{Ed025's Note - its just a side issue..

6.) 10 Jan 2018 21:41:19
Salad is lovely. Varnish it with a bit of bacon and chicken, and boom.

7.) 10 Jan 2018 21:44:13
Next to old bacon face, Ed?

8.) 10 Jan 2018 22:42:11

9.) 10 Jan 2018 23:31:14
How do you “varnish” a salad?

Certainly not with a chicken, feathers everywhere 😄.

10.) 10 Jan 2018 22:31:43
I'll bite, Ed025 what's the joke you put on the editions widget?

{Ed025's Note - .: in barbados a steak and kidney pie costs $ antigua a pork pie costs $ 2.85 and an apple pie $ st kitts and nevis a blueberry pie will cost you £3.10 while a steak slice comes in at $ barbuda a cherry pie costs $3.75 while in jamaica the same one comes in at $2.95.....and that my the PIE RATES OF THE

Your the man Ed025.

{Ed025's Note - cheers mark..

12.) 11 Jan 2018 11:47:34
Right Ed1, first sorry for asking when you said not to, second, I'll see you all in therapy.

{Ed001's Note - no worries.}

I think karius needs time like de gea had and mistakes he makes in games need to be overlooked. Young goalkeepers need patience from us fans. Imagine we sell him and in 3 years time he turns out to be on the level of the very best goal keepers. Give him time and less stick.

Won't slate him if we sign him but if we do i won't have high hopes. Watched him play this season and he is not the vast improvement we need in goal. For the life of me i don't understand Klopps so called insistence in wanting him over other keepers who may be avaliable this summer. I get he is a cheaper option but I'd much rather us spend 70 million to have someone in goal who may not have 50 clean sheets a season but when called upon you know he is able to not fluff up. Navas is not that keeper.

Doubt he will come back. I just hope that if we let him go we put some kind of first option clause in. He may be our Kevin de bruyne and come back in a few years and haunt us.

But can you imagine Oblak making a mistake which he most certainly will every goal keeper has mistakes in them and he gets slated here as the 100 million goal keeper who made a mistake. Some people will probably expect miracles for that price. I don't but some might.

Surely we can't be writing off 2 bright talented players who WILL LEARN THROUGH EXPERIENCE. what kind of fans have we turned into when we can't give our youngsters a chance. If it was clyne I could understand he's had years of experience but Gomez and trenty have both made similar errors and will definately make a few more during their careers. We need to stick by them because we can ALL see the undoubted potential and if we let them go we will regret it. It's not like the errors they have made this season has cost us the league or a trophy.
