Great game 3 points to take from it;
Firstly Milner at lb looks inspired and he's starting to look very comfortable there. There's not many better players than Willian to face in the PL.
Secondly, the midfield 3 of lallana, Wijuldum and Hendo look a little undroppable at present. Klopp proving he knows more than all of us because Wijuldum is getting better each game and looks an astute signing.
Thirdly, Luiz for 32mill or Matip for FREE - what a great signing and him and lovern are starting to look like they could be our first choice CB pairing for the next 5 years.

Early days and not going to get carried away as had a lot of false dawns but we look pretty good at the minute!

Willian is worse than average and his stats are poor than Townsend. Clyne was fantastic against the league's best winger. Thought Chlesea's tactics backfired. Sitting back and absorbing pressure works fine with Bonucci and Chialini.

2.) 17 Sep 2016 03:00:07
Lovern and matip were immense and I thought our midfield were top drawer. Was impressed with wijuldum throughout great work rate and energy. Think mane strikes the fear of God into all defenders and this creates space for others. 10pts from 4 games away to Arsenal Chelsea Spurs and home Leicester is sn excellent return. In Klopp we trust. YNWA.

Wiji and a Lallana were great today. In fact, the whole team was awesome. Matip for Free? Klopp is a genius. Great job, redmen!

Lucas and skytel have really stepped it up a notch since klopps arrival. I was critical of skytel but clearly klopps had an affect.
Think Milners days will be numbered with hendo coming back, Ibe seemingly returning to form and teixera now in the fold. His main strength was running and harrying but klopps going to demand that of everyone anyway.
3 pl games against Spurs and Chelsea away and saints at home and 5 points is a really great start for any manager at any club.
We've now played most of the top 10 and majority of them away from home. Very very positive as long as we match the intensity against the lower teams top 4 should be achievable!

honestly i think Can is more at risk of losing his place to henderson than milner. Can is suspect, and has a lot to learn before he gets in ahead of milner, who has the expereince that klopp will rate. Only way i see Can ahead of milner is the german connection. No dig at can, i just don't think he offers much.

{Ed001's Note - seriously? Can actually makes things happen, Milner offers nothing but turnovers in possession and a lack of effort. He looks like a player just running around for the sake of it, rather than with any purpose. Can is at least showing purpose. Milner just looks like he has a cob on over being shifted out wide. That attempt at a tackle was pure laziness, which is something you don't normally associate with Milner.}

2.) 31 Oct 2015 17:36:52
I would swap Can for hendo when fit but Milner shouldn't be playing, would rather see Ibe play there.

3.) 31 Oct 2015 17:45:54
Kman92 i really have to disagree my friend. Milner cannot measure a pass. Watch his through balls when he plays in the centre. Outwide he's past it. i'd rather give Ibe the gametime than Milner out wide. Can yes does make mistakes sometimes but he's very young and makes things happen, will drive forward and look to make things happen. I like Lucas/can/hendo for CM maybe have to be limited to 2 of them though! with all the attacking options we have.

4.) 31 Oct 2015 17:53:16
Have to agree with Ed001's comment there -- the slide tackle which had NO prayer of being successful or helping in any way allowed the cross in for the goal. As much as Moreno was ball-watching to allow Ramires to head home (though Ramires should have been picked up from the midfield prior also) it wouldnt' have been a real opportunity if Milner had kept his feet, worked, jockeyed and kept the ball outside. Brutal play.

5.) 31 Oct 2015 18:39:33
A good performance is one where you can't think who played better and who didn't.
Just a team, playing as one.

6.) 31 Oct 2015 18:43:20
Seriously! Emre Can gave the ball away too often by playing ball too far in front and gave several stupid free kicks away n potentially could have been off if ref had wanted to.
Milner, Hendo and Lucas for me in midfield.
Once side gets settled to Klopps tactics you'll see a different Milner.

{Ed001's Note - you want Milner in midfield instead of Can? He has already shown in the previous games that he is simply not suited to playing central and today he has shown he is not up to the job in wide areas either.}

7.) 31 Oct 2015 19:05:55
Is jacksgt really James milner? He sure is fighting for his spot! Surely milner must be dropped. He brings nothing to the team.

8.) 31 Oct 2015 19:25:47
A matter of opinion Ed, a lot of the team have not played well up until this past few games and improvement will happen in all players from here on in. I, m not saying Milner was great or better than Emre Can BUT he will get better in settled team IMO.
Can will be a good player under Klopp .
The one thing we all want is ALL players playing well and more importantly supporting all Our team players.
Lets hope its a great start to a manger made for us and the glory that awaits us.

YNWA.

{Ed001's Note - have to agree to disagree, he has never been good enough and never will be imo.}

9.) 31 Oct 2015 19:33:06
Ed001 I agree that Milner has struggled but to accuse him of no effort is ridiculous.

{Ed001's Note - how is it ridiculous? What has he done that shows desire? The way he chased back and harried the attack instead of making a pathetic lazy attempt at a slide tackle which allowed their player to break through right at the start of the match? Oh wait, no he made the laziest attempt at a challenge of the game, well until Benteke's half arsed one that saw him booked because he couldn't be bothered to chase back. Milner just runs around a lot with no real purpose. I just don't see him doing anything like as much work as he did with City. There he would have chased the whole length of the pitch if needed to make a challenge. That is my biggest worry, Milner's only attribute is hard work and an ability to hit a decent cross sometimes. If he is not working harder than everyone else, then he is really just a liability, because he has a terrible touch and his crossing has been poor apart from the cross for Benteke's goal. I am not even going to get into his passing, which is scarily bad this season.}

10.) 31 Oct 2015 19:42:41
Jacksgt
Looking at Can reminds me of Gerrard. The drive, willingness to create things, the needless tackles and cards. How is he supposed to develop as a player if he is not given the playing time. Come on guys. Enjoy the win. Even teams like Barcelona have poor players or else they would have won everything everytime.
Give players time to play, make mistakes and time to address those mistakes then you get a good/complete player.
Thanks
Kit.

Gonna be an exciting few days, I'm guessing we'll be hearing whose in within the next few days. Klopp is the obvious choice, he'll be a proven upgrade on what we had. And if not for that reason then just for semantics.

Was sad to see llori go to Villa, I was harbouring unrealistic hopes that him and Sakho would somehow find themselves first choice cbs during the season. I think if you spend any amount of money on a player you have to be committed to giving them game time, look how well Gomez has done.

Anyway my point being is now who would people's idea of first choice cbs be. I figure that if the defence are going to make a guaranteed mistake every game we may as well blood some youngsters who will hopefully learn from it. I'd like to see Gomez and Sakho against smaller teams and if there's more height presence Can and Sakho with Gomez at lb.
All hypothetical of course because I doubt BR will end his skytel love affair anytime soon.

Well with Brendan in charge the RCB spot is reserved to skrtel. LCB is open to lovren and Sakho to fill in.

2.) 06 Sep 2015 02:14:07
I would love to see a whole new partnership given a go. Gomez/Sakho i would like to see now. at the start of the season i wanted whoever got picked as the opening partnership to have a good run of games. but if you have a shocker then u have to get dropped and the next man gets his chance. on another note Moreno has to be first choice LB and Enrique back up. Gomez is quality and done well there but he's clearly a centreback so let him have his chance in his natural position. does anyone else remember Enrique keeping Hazard in his pocket when he actually played games for us. ? i'm convinced he is not completely useless and can do a job for us as back up to Moreno.

3.) 06 Sep 2015 13:19:55
I've never been a huge fan of skrtel but he'll play most games this season. I wonder if we're better suited to the 3-4-3 we played last year now? Gomez could take the right of the back three, Clyne would be better than any RWB we tried last year. Could be good.

4.) 06 Sep 2015 14:02:17
Per Ed01, BR wants to build the defence around Martin Skrtel. Let that sink in for a second

5.) 06 Sep 2015 16:14:39
redohio - "Per Ed01, BR wants to build the defence around Martin Skrtel. Let that sink in for a second".

I would rather not thanks. I've not long eaten.

I got a chuckle from that, Lenin. Lol!!

I few things have happened so far this season that makes me think Rodgers is growing up as a manager, firstly he went to Stoke to grind out a win and secondly he went to arsenal to grind out a result.
Playing great football is one thing but knowing when to just get the job done is crucial. Yes we've been lucky but we've now hit the woodwork 4 times in 3 games so been unlucky too. The Emirates and stoke have not been historically kind to us, so 4 points is a good return.
Was good to see Rossiter debut in the pl and Gomez form continue, shame Ibe had a poor cameo but hopefully Rodgers continues to play him as he will turn out to be quality. Feeling like the change of backroom staff is showing positive early signs. Long may it continue!!

I'm not saying he's world class or particularly good of late but he's definitely got talent. And ed001 I usually agree with you but I don't this time. I fear his career will patter out which in my book is a shame because when he first broke into arsenals team he looked like he was going to be devastatingly good.

Extra Bacon

{Ed001's Note - he never looked any good, people just wet themselves over any half decent English player.}

I remember when wilshere outshone an entire Barcelona team. Admittedly his injury record and lifestyle is terrible but to say he's 'barely a footballer' and 'most overrated ever' is embarrassing. On his day he's a joy to watch and I hope he gets back to a fit wilshere of 2/ 3 years ago.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but you are talking crap. He has never done any such thing.}

Agreed, he was lucky to have Edwards and at a time when no other club in england could foresee the huge riches ahead. Makes everyone else look daft really with hindsight being 20/ 20 and all. Still a quality man manager and the team he had towards the end had no right to win anything really. Yet they did.
He built at least two quality teams and would be regarded higher if a) he'd left the team in a decent state and b) dominated in Europe more. Both of these Shanks did and thus is no 1.
Not bias tho. 😉.

Ramsey isn't past it he's been off and on injured since the World Cup! Although I'm not a fan of Walcott or anything when he gets a run of games he always produces goals and assists which is more than some tbf!

I would think a top class GK is kinda of a must if we can offload mignolet - Jordan Pickford anyone? Ben Gibson at boro looks like he could be a top class cb but I also think Gomez showed he might be able to cut it at the very highest level so would be just as happy to leave the cbs as is and maybe look at the very highest of calibre lb (who is there tho? Hardly lots of them about) .
We can't keep buying players for the academy or older talents like Gomez, Markovic, Grujic and Origi and not giving them time. Same could be said about Ward and Karius too to be fair although I think a mistake by a gk always leads to a goal so it's a difficult place to blood a youngster.

I would be happy to replace Mignolet, Moreno and Sturridge (only cos he just doesn't fit and would be the most saleable asset we have outside of first 11). Think wiji is getting better as season goes on so no need to replace and Mane should get competition from ojo, Wilson and Woodburn next year.

Great post and if you're statistics are correct you make a 'we will win the league' optimist in me 😉
We're not perfect yet but we're scaring the living bejesus out of our rivals and you're right, they're grasping to the fact our defence is weak and certainly hoping it gets worse.
Your stats prove what we can all see. We're improving greatly in that area and if we can cut out the individual errors we'll be even better (holy crap that makes me happy! )
