Last week we saw Dahoud get confirmed to Dortmund.
And this is something we see from the big German clubs and quite often also the top Spanish clubs. They sign next seasons players before the window opens and when the season is still rolling.

How come this rearly happens with English sides? Are their focus elsewhere, so we missed out on Dahoud? Or are they playing it by the books?

No, not referring to Bosman players, just normal transfers with fees involved. It is rare to see top PL sides act before the end of the season. Or have I just missed it?

Thank you for any clarification here Eds!

And I do hope to see a mini-mane or two with potential next season. So we can survive without our dark knight! He has been inspired this season!

{Ed002's Note - Firstly Liverpool did not miss out on Dahoud.

Clubs discuss transfers all of the time and often agreements are reached well ahead of the transfer window - and that includes PL clubs.}

Do not understand this missing out on players. Fans said we missed out an Sanchez when the only place he was willing to play football in England was London.

How can one miss out on a player when the player will generally decide what club he wants to join?

How can you miss out on a girl you were no longer interested In in the case of Dahoud? Sanchez came to play in London which means, had LFC been based in London, he would prolly have come to us or not and who cares?

The whole "missing out" on a player thing is getting old and stupid. I think people just use that to criticize the owners or the manager without actually looking into the issue deeply.

We signed Matip last Feb.

When was the last time a contracted premier league player was signed by another pl club and it was announced 3 months before the transfer window? I'm willing to bet never. It's unheard of in this country.

5.) 03 Apr 2017 20:07:00
Milner? I think ed002 mentioned there are issues with same country player swaps that have to be looked at too. Just take ed002s word for it and let this one go?

We haven't missed out on anyone yet mate. We ll see what happenes in the summer.

Maybe not announced publicly in the EPL but I bet there have been deals in place with both parties agreeing to fee's and conditions etc well in advance of the transfer window opening.

perhaps even agreeing to terms in january but with one party only willing to officially seal it after the end of a campaign.

am I right in saying that clubs can agree a deal in principal outside of a window but that the offical signing of paperwork can only be submitted inside the transfer windows. So therefore any verbal agreement between Monchen and Dortmund now technically could still fall through between now and the next window?

{Ed002's Note - Not entirely. Everything can be agreed in advance, contracts signed etc. but nothing is finalised until such time as the transfer of the player's registration takes place - and that can only happen when the transfer window is open.}

Like Ed001 said, most fullbacks in Europe today are gung-ho forward at every possibility, Clyne too! He have just learned to wait before speeding up along the touchline.

Wouldn't a defensive midfielder (like medel, but with speed) help that issue?
Could let both wingbacks up high and still have 2,5-3 players home at every time. Until the speedsters return to defend on either end.?
Seem to work for a lot of other teams, shouldn't that work for Liverpool as well?

I'd love to have offensive fullbacks and a world class defensive midfielder. Carvalho would be fantastic! IMO.

@ Raised Eyebrow:

The rivalry thing isn't an issue. Bayern M is an institution in German football.
Every German kid that grow up dream about playing there, no matter where in Germany they grow up!

They don't keep the same standards of rivalry between the clubs as English or Italian clubs do.

DanTheViking

{Ed001's Note - so not true, most Germans hate Bayern. They either support them or hate them.}

If the rumors of Götze is reliable, and we can redeem £20M for Lallana, and get £25M for Benchteke, that more than covers Göetze, and probably will cover both agent fees and potential sign on fees, and Marios salary (B and L combinded)

And if Götze is arriving anyways, Lallana will mostly come off the bench in the big games and play as Allen have this year.

I wote for selling, if Götze is on the way that is. Besides that, Lallanas energy have been vital for our pressing game since X-mas.

{Ed002's Note - It doesn't work like that Dan.}
