Any substance to the Arthur Melo rumours Ed's and is he a good fit for us if so.

Much appreciated as always.

Cornishmendoitdrekly

{Ed002's Note - Arthur Melo (CM/DM) Available - has not worked out in Europe. Barcelona skinned Juventus of Pjanic and cash and it has largely been a disaster in Turin. Juventus want to revamp the midfield with Arthur, McKennie, Ramsey and Rabiot all seen as surplus to requirements. All are for sale and all can be used in exchanges. The problem remains finding takers for the likes of these players who pull a total of €600k in weekly wages will be difficult - but there are interested clubs out there. Arsenal have asked after taking Arthur on loan - and that might be attractive if a buyer can't be found and Arsenal were to pay his wages. I am sure there is knocking on the door of St James Park. Valencia off a solution but no agreement on fee just yet. I understand he has been considered by Liverpool but Klopp has ruled out any additions.

Ed002 - Porto have said they have received a very good offer for Vitinha but it needs to be better. Any idea if it is Liverpool related as he was one potential on your very detailed list of possibles?

Cornishmendoitdrekly

{Ed002's Note - Vitinha (CM/AM) Another JM special who had a successful loan at Wolves. Porto are not keen on selling but any side offering his €40M release clause in cash could put it in the hands of the player. Bayern Munich and Lazio have a declared interest. Scouts from many sides have been watching him, including Liverpool, Real Madrid and Roma. I understand that Bayern Munich has been replaced by interest from Arsenal and Manchester United. I am not aware who has made the offer}

1.) 15 Jun 2022 16:12:27
Based purely on the type of player he is, I would be surprised if it's us who have bid on him.

He's more attack minded than defensive and we already have young midfielders who are arguably better than him in that position - Elliot and Carvalho and possibly Curtis too.

2.) 15 Jun 2022 16:14:45
ED002 - I have not seen much of Vitinha, but I have watched Otavio of FC Porto on a few occasions, who was the other lad you mentioned on your definitive list of possibilities. Do you have have any info on him in your database you can share?

Best Regrads,

KR65.

{Ed002's Note -
Otavio (RM) Liverpool have sustained interest and something may be possible. Manchester United see him as a useful midfield addition, but cannot offer CL football.
Fabio Vieira (AM) Porto want to keep the youngster and have no intention of selling. Previously Arsenal, Bournemouth and RBL have had approaches turned away. Has been watched by Spurs, Leicester, Wolves and Liverpool.

3.) 15 Jun 2022 16:21:09
Thank you - most appreciated.

4.) 15 Jun 2022 16:24:11
Your a LEGEND Ed002?.

5.) 16 Jun 2022 20:58:07
Hi eds, Fabio Viera is going to Arsenal! €40mil. Any idea why?

{Ed002's Note - They made an acceptable offer following up on previous interest.}

6.) 16 Jun 2022 21:33:00
Hi eds, exactly- its only a reasonable offer and not an exceptional offer. And why arsenal who don't even have champions league football. Fabio Vieira is best creator in Portuguese league and best young talent from Portugal. Its boggle my mind.

04 Jan 2021 16:04:39
Question for Ed001 or Ed002 if you are about please.
If, as I fear might happen, we are put back into Lockdown later do you think professional sport will be include as like last time? And if so, do you think it will affect transfers. I know clubs representatives and Management can work from home on the deals but will the Governing bodies allow transfers to be completed subject to medicals taking place as and when permissible?
Thanks as always.

Cornishmendoitdrekly

{Ed002's Note - Transfers would be affected by the loss of income of the clubs more than anything else. Logistics is no an issue.}

17 Apr 2019 08:27:22
Good morning Ed001. Just wondering what your view on Camacho is please. Rumours are going around that Wolves could be in for him which would make sense and would be a good move for him I believe as I really like their manager. He seems to prefer to be a winger and I think he scored a few the other day. I fear he would have very little chance to succeed with us given his preferred starting position which is a shame. Love to hear your views.

Cornishmendoitdrekly

{Ed001's Note - I expect him to leave.}

1.) 17 Apr 2019 10:38:08
whilst it is disapointing to here that he will leave, i am expecting us to receive a decent sum for him.

i think this, along with a shift in prices, means we are actually seeing a nice return on investment for our academy.

he could of been a good player for us but we move on, we have plenty of other players coming through.

i think we need a sustainable youth team that both supplements our first team as well as bringing in an income that can help fund further youth development!

ed do you think the wolves link is merely putting Portuguese together or is there some substance?

{Ed002's Note - There is substance to two clubs being interested and one of those is Wolves.}

Sky showing apparent footage of AB at Rome airport. No idea if legit.

Cornishmendoitdrekly

1.) 18 Jul 2018 19:26:13
Fee has been agreed, personal terms have been agreed, medical now all that is pending so yes pretty much can be legit.

2.) 18 Jul 2018 19:26:54
If he’s wearing Brazil gear it’s probably him returning from the World Cup.

3.) 18 Jul 2018 19:30:32

4.) 18 Jul 2018 19:31:37

Fekir had a medical and didn't sign, will wait till allison is doing the lean before i get too excited.

Lots of discussions about Trent which got me thinking. I know we probably need a like for like replacement for Mo (which is probably impossible) but does anyone think Trent could do a job there with Conor behind/ overlapping him? I'd like to try it to see if it could work.

Cornishmendoitdrekly

1.) 27 Mar 2024 08:38:44
Yeah let’s stick vvd up front aswell he scored a goal once.

2.) 27 Mar 2024 08:43:38
I could see Trent playing as the 10 in a new formation but not on the wing. You need searing pace and tricky to break the line out wide.

3.) 27 Mar 2024 10:14:37
Nah. Loke, I’m sure Trent can do a job like how Fabinho did a job at CB for a few games. But players need to be played where there strengths are and imo where they can buy in and have the biggest impact on the team. RW would be to fill a gap not a long term replacement for Mo.

4.) 27 Mar 2024 11:29:39
I think TAA would be the playmaker as one of the two in a 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 formation. Not sure if we will ever play the formation but he might get a chance to showcase in Gareth’s side at the Euros.

5.) 27 Mar 2024 11:30:52
Spot on, @Faith. Why would I want to play a player in another position just to "do a job" when we can play him at his best position and sign an actual specialist at the position we want him to "do a job at"? Never understood that logic, personally.

6.) 27 Mar 2024 11:56:10
Trent is a central midfielder and that’s that.

7.) 27 Mar 2024 18:56:39
The only person not to see it is the very successful professional Footballer manager Jurgen Klopp.

For a player who’s not a right back Trent’s done alright there over the years.

8.) 27 Mar 2024 21:09:56
Trents a rightback, ever since he made his debut. don't think he would ever be a regular for us in the middle.

14 Mar 2024 11:17:43
Just rewatching highlights from 15 years ago with Torres nicking the ball off of Vidic. Got me thinking, has there ever been a greater mismatch. Torres always had him in his pocket and Vidic got sent off numerous times. Hilarious.

Cornishmendoitdrekly

1.) 14 Mar 2024 14:26:11
I used to hated seeing carra against drogba tbh - but surely award goes to Rudy at Norwich? Suarez used to traumatise him when he was in goal for them…poor lad.

2.) 14 Mar 2024 15:09:17
Carra vs Thierry Henry was simply not fair. You can also add Phillipe Senderos to one of Drogba's victims. Some mismatch that was. All Drogba had to do was make eye contact with Senderos and his head was gone.

3.) 14 Mar 2024 21:43:52
Remember Ashley Cole having CR7s number when they played each other or bale destroying maicons aura as a world class rb…. Testament to quality of VVD and Salah in they consistently are able to do what they do best against majority of players they face.

4.) 14 Mar 2024 22:20:51
Bruno Fernandes v groundsman
Old Trafford groundsman missed a section of grass causing Bruno to complete a reverse 2 1/ 2 somersault with a 1/ 2 twist while in the pike position.
Complete mismatch.

5.) 15 Mar 2024 00:32:14
I always found Drogba incredibly overrated to be honest. Turned up in a few big games which is what he's remembered for.

6.) 15 Mar 2024 02:58:37
Think you either misremembering or didn’t watch him enough Babbitty, not only did Drogba score goals and terrorize defences, he was the focal point of their attack and linked up their play. Incredible player in my opinion, and I used to hate it anytime he was up against Carragher as he would just dominate.

7.) 15 Mar 2024 07:10:21
Drogba didn't have the best of starts at Chelsea from what I remember, but boy oh boy he soon turned that around.
Same as Seano, my strongest memories of him were just bullying Carra. And NOBODY did that.
Immense player for Chelsea, never in dispute.

8.) 15 Mar 2024 08:03:52
Babbitty, Drogba’s scoring record in his first stint at Chelsea is one goal for every two games played. That’s pretty good IMO.

9.) 15 Mar 2024 16:29:58
Drogba's record was less than one in two. 100 in 226 in the league and 157 in 341 all comps. For a number 9 at a big club, that's respectable but not jaw-dropping. I remember several times Chelsea either trying to replace him or bring in a "better" striker like Shevchenko in 2006, Anelka in 2008 and Torres in 2011. My point is there were a few times when Chelsea thought he could be upgraded upon. I also remember his legend status went up a notch in 2012 after his exploits in the Champions League and FA Cup. I remember him as a decent striker who was handful and turned up in big games but I certainly wouldn't put him in the world-class category.

10.) 15 Mar 2024 20:02:12
Drogba was a brilliant striker in his prime and I would have loved him at Liverpool.

Shock, Jurgen is stepping down at the end of the season. This site is going to explode. Good luck Ed's.

18 Apr 2023 15:06:06
I really liked seeing TAA in a different role last night. I know it raises concerns but what I liked the most is the way it made communicate with his team mates more and get really involved in the game. He did spend a lot of time looking around the pitch for where everyone was and subsequently didn't see the incoming pass but his reactions were good. I do believe he can play in the middle given time and experience and could even be a future captain in the making.
I will put my hard hat on?.

Cornishmendoitdrekly

1.) 18 Apr 2023 15:58:00
For a while now it seemed like we played the same formation against any opposition.

Maybe last night was a different system that we might not always use but against different types of opposition. It Always appeared like we had no plan b and now maybe we have.

2.) 18 Apr 2023 16:24:42
City and Arsenal have been playing like this way all season (City a lot longer) and Liverpool are starting to experiment with it recently but we have not had the correct balance at the back for it to be successful yet.
Notice how White and Ake (central defenders) are played at full back and rarely bomb forward allowing the other full back position to move into midfield providing a extra man and give more freedom to the attacking players.

3.) 18 Apr 2023 18:02:16
I think last night’s performance and result proved that we don’t need Bellingham and we don’t need to spend big in the summer to get back challenging.

If anything I’d say this seasons shortfalls have been down to Edwards, Ward, Pep, Thiago and 1230 Saturday kick offs.

Everyone is wanting a shiny new ferrari in the shape of Bellingham but what is wrong with a part ex as it still gets you from A to B despite probably breaking down quite a few times in the process. So I think we should look at keeping Arthur for another season loan and try and tie Milly or Naby to a new contract thus saving us 130 million in the process.

If we can offload Jota, Gomez and Matip for 40-50 mill it will also balance the books right out.

If Phillips were to also leave then It would leave our homegrown quota and centre half’s quite short so I’d even say stick a cheeky bid in for Maguire. With the possession based Lindersball and high line he Would fit like a glove and I doubt Utd would ask for much.

{Ed025's Note - is that irony or drugs JK?..

4.) 18 Apr 2023 18:18:02
Definitely drugs!

{Ed025's Note - it has to be pegleg, and a bad batch at that mate..

5.) 18 Apr 2023 18:19:56
Keep Arthur on loan I've heard it all now.

{Ed025's Note - if anyone has found a plot could you please return it to JK, he seems to have lost one..

6.) 18 Apr 2023 18:46:49
Jk do u need any help mate?

7.) 18 Apr 2023 18:58:55
Me grandad used to say “the sights ya see when you don’t have your gun with ya”.

8.) 18 Apr 2023 19:04:46
Club be long gone if u had control jk worst post of the season!

9.) 18 Apr 2023 19:24:18
OUCH!

10.) 18 Apr 2023 19:31:27
Well at least I get it JK ?.

11.) 18 Apr 2023 19:49:18
JK, you are my hero for this :D.

12.) 18 Apr 2023 19:50:02
Damn it, JK. I warned you, you need to be more subtle than that.

13.) 18 Apr 2023 20:15:50
Jk, well played sir well played ?.

14.) 18 Apr 2023 20:05:06
Hahahaha!

I missed most of the live chat yesterday, but caught the end of it.

Chapeau, JK!

15.) 18 Apr 2023 21:20:17
Sorry Gents and Oli.

My post was a massive P take. I think we should buy Arthur over loaning him again ?.

Nah in all seriousness I wasn’t expecting that many nibbles. Jay dub your reply tickled me.

It was a joke post amongst the dastardly Live chat regulars from last nights game.

{Ed025's Note - all good entertainment JK..

16.) 18 Apr 2023 21:31:25
JK, you show disturbing signs of being both a devil's advocate and a secret voyeur waiting to pounce on innocent minds.

Can I have a bottle of the stuff that actually gave you the courage to go through with this? ??.

17.) 18 Apr 2023 21:35:36
SR, he ruined it with the Maguire thingy. If nobody caught on as to what he was doing after that, there's no hope for them sadly.

18.) 18 Apr 2023 22:07:15
Aray ? what can I say I like a little tongue in cheek wind up now and again.

The Maguire bit was requested by Viktor or Wyred so I had to throw it in. I tried selling it as best I could but what can I say, Slabhead is about as sellable as a chocolate fireguard or investment in the club ?.

19.) 18 Apr 2023 22:33:06
My fault on the maguire one, I didn't think he'd throw it in. Turns out JK has no limit to the level of baiting he will try and sell ?.

20.) 18 Apr 2023 22:45:03
JK, you know your reply set me thinking. If Slabhead was indeed worth the 80-90 million they paid, then money must indeed certainly grow on trees. ?.

21.) 19 Apr 2023 09:17:23
JK - never thought we needed a major rebuild. If anything, we need time, pre-season and one or two additions. I've not seen many midfielders hit the ground running in a Jurgen Klopp liverpool team, so really not sure how adding 3 or 4 midfielders is going to be helpful next season.

22.) 19 Apr 2023 10:45:35
Haha JK fair play you said you'd do it ???.

02 Sep 2022 08:36:54
Just wanted to say a big thank you to all of the Ed's for their time and patience throughout the transfer window.
Ed 002 - thank you for staying with us, your info is invaluable and always very interesting to read.
For many of us this site offers the opportunity to momentarily escape the day to day grind. Hopefully things will calm down a bit now and we can concentrate on the rest of the season.

Once again thank you Ed's.

Cornishmendoitdrekly

1.) 02 Sep 2022 09:43:17
You things will calm down, Cornish?
Wait for the next defeat or draw and this transfer window be dredged up again, you watch.

{Ed001's Note - I doubt it will take that long, it will be the next time a win isn't by at least 5 goals that it will all be the fault of net spend.}

2.) 02 Sep 2022 09:57:08
well said.

3.) 02 Sep 2022 10:20:03
It's almost like Ed002 is part of the Liverpool team. Every transfer window, we get a scare we could lose him but then thankfully he signs a new contract and stays. Your information is gold to many of us. Legend.

Ed001, the boss man. The brain child of the best site on the internet. Thank you as always sir for your banter and the best player discussions. I always love your opinion on players. You got an amazing eye for it.

Ed25, I would say the soundest evertonian on the planet but I met a few great ones to be fair. You are well up there. Wicked funny and you bring such a good balance to this site.

Ed033, your not the biggest chatterbox but all I can say is the site never went down. You re working all sorts of magic behind the scenes.

Ed014, you came in like a wrecking ball! Challenging the perspectives of every poster and Killing poor harry. Thanks man.

Harry, never change buddy. Not sure if you came back under new name or not. Hope you did.

Square Tomato, the Joe Gomez informant. Tell Joe we love him and tell Joe to tell you that we love having you on this site feeding us inside info. Unless Joe doesn't know you do this. In that case take the message direct from this and keep quiet.

To all the posters, regular and otherwise, thanks for the banter and looking forward to season ahead.

{Ed025's Note - cheers davey ?..

4.) 02 Sep 2022 10:47:38
I think Net Spend is always going to divide posters and cause discussion.

However the fans who are happy with it are great fans of the club and the ones who aren’t are also great fans of the club.

5.) 02 Sep 2022 11:17:11
As posters have said before it’s not the net spend that is the issue, it would never have been mentioned if we were on 15 points. It’s the form of just about all the so called world class established players. I will dig out a few because they deserve it atm,
Trent
VVD
Robbo
Hendo
Fabs.

6.) 02 Sep 2022 11:35:23
To be successful I think you need two key components in place at the same time.

And those 2 are to spend money on quality and have the right manager in place at the time of spending it.

Plenty of teams are spending money Willy nilly at the moment but they haven’t got the man in charge taking that spend off the pitch onto it. Just look at Chelsea (currently) Villa, Everton etc over the last few years and their spend.

However if you look at clubs in the past who spent money and had the right manager at the time then success quickly followed and it was sustained success as well

Fergie - Utd
Pep - City
Jose - Chelsea

We’ve sold big and as a result we’ve bought big Allison, Vvd and Fab in a 7 month period which really moved us on and got us a League and CL in the next 24 months.

I’ve said before Klopp is working wonders at this club that I don’t believe any other manager in world football could have replicated in the same circumstances.

Klopp has even said a few days ago he would like us to take more risks in the market and I think if we did with Klopps record we could have definitely had more than 1 League and 1 CL in the last 7 years.

That’s doesn’t mean we aren’t going to win 1 of the big ones this season because with Klopp in charge anything is possible.

7.) 02 Sep 2022 13:45:17
More risks in the transfer market are still risks. We all want new players and old players to maintain and improve their form. We all want more depth and top class players warming the bench and being happy to do so. It's just a thought but what if one or more of the risks in the transfer market didn't work and upset the apple cart?
Saying that, I would like us to have more quality in the squad and not be having to look at the likes of Minamino and Shaqiri.
I don't have to find the players and balance the books though.

8.) 02 Sep 2022 13:56:24
Rigsby you’d have to direct that to Klopp mate. I just repeated what he said.

Stuie_boy. I would be more than happy with Bowen, as I said, I really like him. Just concerned that if Salah goes we will lose that element of unpredictability that we have enjoyed with Mo. Saying that, I think defenders knew what was coming but just couldn't stop Mo. I fully support buying proven English players (shame about the inflated prices) but we are Liverpool. We came so close to an unprecedented quadruple and if we wish to continue anywhere near those levels then we need to be recruiting the best available players within our budget and I would question if there are better options available.

Really like Bowen. Reminds me of an English Dirk Kuyt, workman like grafter that will chip in with his fair share of goals without setting the world alight. Is that what we need though? I would prefer a more enigmatic winger like Raphina or Anthony personally. Maybe Chiesa!

Ed 001 - the way Hendo has looked after himself during the summer break and how fit he looks now, I would suggest he is determined to fight for his place in what is now a much improved midfield. I reckon he would even do a Millie and begrudgingly play right back if needed.

I went to the game last night, on the half way line row 1 in the middle of a load of West Ham mates. Slightly difficult to get a full appreciation of the game but Cody really stood out to me. Received the ball well, good awareness of what's around him, very hard to get the ball off him and ultimately a well taken goal.

Although I would love to see Bellingham play for us, I would go plan B and I am surprised that Ruben Neves from Wolves hasn't been discussed more on here.

Cornishmendoitdrekly

{Ed002's Note - Ruben Neves (DM/CM) Wolves would look to get €50M should Neves be sold, and they may be more accepting of that now. Mr Mourinho is a huge fan and has tried to take him to three different clubs in the past - and he would, I am sure, be interested in taking him to Roma but their focus right now is elsewhere and there is no guarantee he will be there after the summer. He was always been seen as an option to replace Matic at Manchester United, but they didn't act at the time and had other priorities to deal with first and preferred options and now they have Casemiro. Unclear if they still might make an offer or perhaps see Nunes as more versatile, awho he shares an agent with. His agent has been actively offering him around and has spoken with Juventus who are looking to offload players but none that I would expect Wolves to be interested in and they have other priorities for their cash. Newcastle have a declared interest. Prior interest of Spurs and Liverpool may remain - and Paratici is certainly a fan. I suspect Liverpool see Nunes as more versatile. Arsenal interest has likely gone. Chelsea have other targets. There has been a discussion with Barcelona - but there is a huge difference in valuation and they are looking at others now.}

I think it's way too early to judge Gakpo but I feel we lost an element of the press when Salah came on for him. I know other players were substituted or changed positions but at least Gakpo did what Klopp asked him to do.

{Ed025's Note - he must have asked him to run around like a headless chicken then.. ?

I think the biggest problem is that they don't seem to know how to play as a team anymore. I get it that personnel have changed due to injuries but the free flowing passing and movement isn't there. Also the ability to pass to one of our own players is very poor. Lack of confidence? You look at training and they constantly practise quick, one pass triangles and rondos. Hopefully Thiago can help settle things down and Matip back will help VVD.
