Given Howedes comments about being open to leaving Schalke, do you see us as a possible destination? Who might there be competition from?

Cheers

Hi Reds and Eds,

This is directed more at ed002 but I'd love to hear ed001's thoughts too.

I was wondering if we might get an honest assessment of how the club are doing financially now, particularly when compared to say 5 years ago, and also where the club goes from here.

All the best!

ChrisMiz

{Ed002's Note - I don’t want to get in to comparisons but generally the club are in good shape. They are hopefully pushing to clear debt this year and income was good over the last two years - but spending high on agent fees (very high) and on “additional” payments which must stop. Going forward the club has made a change at a senior level commercially so it is unclear where that will lead - perhaps naming rights of some type. The state of Brexit has dragged the finances down (as it has for all clubs) and again it remains unclear what will happen in the medium to long term. As far as the stadium goes the club are letting planning expire so Phase 2 as planned is effectively off the table whilst options are considered.}

Ed002, your insight and posts are more appreciated than you probably know. I understand that some people don't like to hear "real world stuff", but I really appreciate what you bring to this site.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks.}

Thanks, Ed02. Good to know that the debt has come down signifcantly thanks to the rise in income from the last two seasons. Hopefully, we can keep improving on the commercial side as well as improvement in facilities at the club.

{Ed002's Note - The commercial side will always be limited by the number of big ticket items that can be sponsored - shirt manufacturer, shirt sponsor, trading ground, stadium/stands ... The other sponsorship opportunities - like travel partners, photocopy supplier, lubricant supplier do not bring in significant funds. But there has been a major personnel change on that front so we will see what happens.}

Winning number 7 will be a nice little cash injection then 😂.

FSG in.

Ed002,that's brilliant, thanks for the excellent reply. It's good to hear, any idea what the alternatives might be regarding the stadium?

{Ed002's Note - The options will need to be open and financially viable.}

You'd have gotten brilliant odds on a draw at 3-0. No-one would have foreseen us capitulating like that! Sadly, that result pushes the title even further out of our hands. 2nd in the league is great compared to what we were hoping for at the start of the season, but having come so far, it feels like we've lost it!

Ed02 AND Ed001,

What are your takes on the financial figures that the club has released? Is the club moving in the right direction?

Cheers

ChrisMiz

{Ed002's Note - Very slowly.}

Thought we were the better team for much of that. Some poor refereeing for both sides. Oh well, on wards and upwards in the league!

Cheers,

I have to say that the abuse you get for your info is a sign of how important you are here to a lot of people. People get so emotive when they accuse you of being 'wrong, ' I guess it shows that people actually care about the contributions you make.

For that, Macca, thank you and long may you continue to be a member here.

Cheers!

Great work, eds. This is what this site is all about, just a shame it gets hindered by the trolls from time to time!

How can one player be so hit and miss? I've not seen him have an 'average game', so to speak.
