Ed's the usual suspects are again linked in various papers and websites with a move to us again this transfer window. With Shaqiri again being linked with a loan move. Surely we couldn't be lookin at adding more width with sterling, Markovic and Ibe (progressing well at Derby).
Any chances of us getting ( if anybody ) wide players or would the main focus be a striker? Cheers in advance for any reply.

{Ed002's Note - If Sterling were to be sold then perhaps.}

Very frustrating if the rumours are true of Chelski hijacking the Salah deal. Although I feel there are stronger areas to invest in, losing out to another rival is disappointing. I feel the a CM or DCM is needed rather than more attacking options. Eds is it possible we could push for a move for Hughes now, only if the Salah dead falls through, (only if LFC are givin a certain amount this window)
Cheers Eds.

{Ed001's Note - personally no, I wouldn't think that will be done, it would not be a cheap buy and he is not really the player we are after. He is a central player, we want width to allow Coutinho to play central.}

I'm surprised a lot of people think Milner isn't a good signing. Personally I think it's a great signing will give the midfield some steel, quality and a good engine room there alongside Hendo. He is turning down a chance of more money with City and the chance of more trophys to come play for us, that's a great attitude to have and I'll welcome that with open arms and I think a lot of our younger players can learn from that (Sterling) cough cough!!!
Cheers

I think he's a good player, but he's basically an older wiser Henderson. We already have one, not sure why we need another or how exactly he fits into the first team.

2.) 02 Jun 2015 18:57:33
I agree with RDL; Milner is a very good player who will give you a 7/10 performance every day of the week, and will work hard. But do LFC need him? With Gerrard gone, and Lucas seemingly on the way out, LFC are seemingly looking to Milner to play as a replacement for one of them and no doubt he will do a "job", but he will not be a match winner and he will be on a very big wages. If it was upto me, I would say LFC needed a different sort of player in midfield especially of Lucas leaves, and Milner is not the answer IMO.

3.) 02 Jun 2015 18:59:35
I think it's less a case that he's a bad player and more a case of do we actually need him.

He's not a great center mid or a great winger and I don't see him nailing down a single position as his own for the season. And I don't see him racking up goals or assists. But he's decent anywhere across midfield and I don't think he'll let us down, as such.

That's all fine, but including signing on fee applied to his wages over time, we're likely going to be paying him a relatively large amount of money for what seems to be a signing for squad depth / utility. Maybe he'll surprise us all and be one of our best players next season.

4.) 03 Jun 2015 00:34:04
RDL and AG are spot on. He will not get us over the hump. He is hardworking. I did not know that was a quality. I thought it was a prerequisite to become a pro athlete. Shows how the bar has gone low for signings at the club. Well after today, incompetence is a top-down policy ATM at the club

5.) 03 Jun 2015 04:42:25
8 goals , 7 assists , half his appearances were off the bench. pretty good going last season.

6.) 03 Jun 2015 05:00:23
His wages are large and he takes up a place that could be filled/tested by some of our academy prospects. It is an unnecessary signing that is only coming to fruition because it is free, not because it is needed. Couple this with the Toure extension and I really struggle to see what the owners plans are for the club - keep a poorly performing mediocre manager, sell off our best players - it is just weird.

Disastrous performance today, delighted the season is now finished and I'm looking forward to the summer transfer activity. To the Eds, a big thank you for this season on keeping this site running! Cheers

{Ed001's Note - comes to something when the highlight of the season is it finishing!}

The result today summed up our entire season.

The good thing is at least it did happen in time for the review.

Apologies if this had already been mentioned. Givin Emre Can's performances at right CB this season albeit he is a CM. can you see him being pushed into CM next season and would this open up the possibility of a new CB being sought after. A lot of what ifs I know but I feel with Stevie leaving and the possible arrival of a new CM coming in to fill the void I think Emre would be best suited to stay playing CB to gain more game time as he is still very young. What are you thoughts and cheers for any reply.

Skrtel, Sakho, Ilori, Lovren, Wisdom, Paez, Jones, Toure all still at the club (Toure may leave). I'd like to see Ilori given a shot, I'd start Sakho and Lovren together. I think Skrtel (and Rodgers) are the common denominators in our poor defense rather than Skrtel being the one consistent defender I think he puts other defenders under pressure with his positioning.

He's good at the rough stuff but not the clever stuff. Sakho/Lovren as the first choice pairing, Ilori and Skrtel to come in and cover. Ilori is so quick for a CD we could play a higher line if he was in the team. He won't get a shot under Rodgers though.

2.) 12 May 2015 09:13:41
look out for ed002's comments regarding the amounts of CBs we have that need to be managed before we even think about getting one.

3.) 12 May 2015 09:28:41
Have you not noticed that teams are targeting Can as he's not a defender? He looks great bringing the ball out of defence but his defending isn't great. He struggles with players running at him, for a big fella he is often beaten in the air and his positioning and marking are not up to scratch.

I cannot wait to see him in midfield next season. If he plays a half dozen games next season in defence as cover, absolutely fine. If he plays another 30 games in defence next season then I would consider that to be diabolical mis-management of both the player and the squad.

Lmred has listed our options at centre back. There are loads there. Coates is likely to be gone but he wasn't included, others will go too but that's fine as you see we have plenty!

4.) 12 May 2015 13:01:49
I do realise we have plenty of options regarding CB. But only Sakho Skrtel Lovren are in for a shout as first team quality at the moment. With Toure capable of making many mistakes when playing I suspect he could be allowed to leave possibly Coates too. As regards Ilori Wisdom lloyd Jones there is some young talent there and I hope they are giving some good game time this year. I did notice players targeting Can many times, hazard at the Bridge in the Cup game as an example showed his weakness against fast skilful players but I do feel he has done a great job considering his age and the fact it's not his natural position. I'm just pointing out that hopefully he is givin game time for his progression much like Carra's early years where he played a vast amount of different positions as I feel he can be a very important player for Liverpool for many years. After all the players BR brought in last year, for me, he has been the standout purchase.

5.) 12 May 2015 15:48:22
@Chardy, I agree with you that he has been our stand out purchase from last summer and I too want him to get plenty of game time. Midfield though for me and defence should only be on the rare occasion for cover.

Toure has been offered another contract but still may go but either way as you even say we have 3 clear first team centre backs at the moment. For me the younger players, who you say you want to get good game time, should definitely be allowed to be covering the rest of centre back positions.

If we go sign another then when could they possibly get this game time?

Even if Toure goes as well we have Wisdom and Ilori both returning and it's time we use the players we have rather than sign someone else to be backup.

6.) 12 May 2015 18:12:17
he is a CM. Play him there or sell him.

7.) 13 May 2015 09:30:22
@redohio, sell him? That would be even more nuts than playing him RB.

It's getting to that stage of the season where the rumours start and recycled transfer rumours appear again. Eds, if we win the title and I believe we will at this stage, how much of a transfer kitty will BR have at his disposal, or would it have been the very same if we had just qualified for the champions league in 4th spot.
Cheers for any reply.
