Seen this morning that Stevie Gerrard's cousin Bobby Duncan is to join Liverpool after his contract dispute with Man City. To be honest didn't think that we could sign youth players in England due to our transfer ban at that level. Is it a case of because he hasn't signed pro terms he'll be a free agent and a set £200k compensation will be due to City?

CaisterRed77

1.) 15 Apr 2018 10:49:27
He’s 17 in June so I think we can sign him on pro terms.

2.) 15 Apr 2018 10:50:01
That’s why are waiting until the summer when he will be 17 and, as long as we have met our obligations, the ban will be lifted.

3.) 15 Apr 2018 11:31:07
16 year olds having contract disputes.

4.) 15 Apr 2018 15:57:16
This lad looks the real deal so far from what I’ve seen, could be a very good signing if his progress continues.

15 Aug 2016 22:37:37
Just seen Christian Benteke, is now slight odds on favourite to move to Everton before Deadline Day. Guess it means a large bet has been placed or multiple bets etc. Just wondering if Eds know if Evertons interest in Benteke is genuine. Seems to be Koeman type striker. Think it'll be a great deal for us if we get our transfer fee back from last year. But also a good signing for the blue-noses.

CaisterRed77

{Ed002's Note - Whilst Eris Kismet agreed a personal package with Besiktas after Crystal Palace stepped back and Juventus declared that they had no interest and asked him to stop bothering them about Benteke, Besiktas said want a loan with an option of buying - which might not suit Liverpool. Any agreement to buy him would need Liverpool to reduce the significant asking price and that might attract the likes of West Brom who are also looking for a striker.}

1.) 16 Aug 2016 01:16:12
Can't believe people on he will be happy selling any player to Everton . Why would you what to make them better .

2.) 16 Aug 2016 08:15:31
Selling a player who Isn't good enough for us for 30 million? Feels fine to me.

3.) 16 Aug 2016 09:45:31
To he scores 15 goals and helps Everton to finish ahead of us.

4.) 16 Aug 2016 13:54:21
Surely we would be better selling someone who isn't going to start and releasing the funds and freeing up the wage bill for someone who is going to start

If we are concerns Everton are going to finish ahead of us that shows how far we have slipped.

5.) 16 Aug 2016 21:00:31
In the right club Benteke CAN BE a 20 goal a season striker, he was just the wrong signing for the wrong system. He hasn't just become a poor striker.

6.) 19 Aug 2016 14:56:06
I can't see Everton finishing in the top 4, Benteke or no. They need to improve other areas of the squad even with Ashley Williams.

Lorius Karius YNWA we win together and we lose together! He is a brilliant Keeper no doubt. Xx.

CaisterRed77

1.) 27 May 2018 00:38:45
Oh my days really? We have just lost a champions league final due to mistakes by the keeper an it's OK? I don't believe what I'm reading on here.

2.) 27 May 2018 01:03:10
Perspective needed. Yes we don't abuse the fella as it's classless and vile but it doesn't mean we shut ourselves off to the truth. He doesn't have the mentality and level of ability needed to start at a club looking to compete for honours.

3.) 27 May 2018 02:27:07
I think we need take some perspective here on a human level, this guy needs us now more than ever. How would you feel in his position? Supporting him in times of heart ache makes us stand out above any other club, because we never NEVER WALK ALONE. And I certainly would cry with him, and feel his pain. Tonight I’m a proud Liverpool fan who says congrats Madrid, but we’ll come again, because we are LIVERPOOL FC.

29 Apr 2018 12:20:51
So if Stevie Gerrard is the next Rangers manager, how do we feel about it? Could have benefits for us. Yes big risk for him personally, Rangers is a massive club with a massive global fan base, huge expectations but non the less maybe in turmoil in the boardroom. Let me make my points why it's a good move in my mind. We know Klopp is 2 years into a 6 year deal and is expected to see out his contact, and maybe a little beyond. So the top job is in essence off the table for 5 years. Stevie could stay in the youth setup admittedly but the gulf between u23s and Premier League is so vast. He could go and manage say MK Dons, Oxford United. He may have success getting promoted to the Championship and doing well in that division, but could he go from MK Dons straight to Liverpool? If he does well at Rangers maybe gets closer to Celtic first and then beats them to titles, you could make a great shout for him to be Klopp's successor in 5 years? He has a point to prove to Rodgers also, when he left in 2016 he probably would not of done so if offered a coaching role or a future at the club, that offered never materialised because I think Brendan felt maybe threatened by his presence in the background. In the immediate time it could be a good loan option for a few of the fringe players too good for the u23s, but maybe not getting the minutes they need in the first team. Woodburn, Solanke, Wilson for example could get experience of playing in the gold fish bowl in which Rangers is so similar to Liverpool whilst also improving confidence and finding there true levels! And if Stevie was to ask you to come and play for him and help him topple the mighty Celtic got to be tempting right! Some may say Scottish football isn't good enough and won't help these boys, but I'd argue that it didn't do our Record signing much harm in his early 20s. So you could look at it like we're loaning our future manager out, and some of the future stars together! Ed's what's your view on this appointment, good move for Stevie? Good loan option for Woodburn etc?

CaisterRed77

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't send any of our better youngsters up there, no. As for Gerrard, personally he needs to go somewhere because he clearly is only interested in results and that is not what the club needs from a youth coach. It would do everyone good if he went and got some experience elsewhere and succeeded or failed on his own, rather than having the crutch of being Liverpool legend to prop him up. Then we can see what he is about and if he has what it takes.}

1.) 29 Apr 2018 12:32:46
Hardly any manager Ever has it plain sailing. He will go there and struggle, but if Gerrard can close the Celtic gap in quality then he might just pull it off.
It's only Brendan Rogers after all. Good luck to him.

2.) 29 Apr 2018 13:03:27
noticed that about Gerrard too. For a youth coach, he talked too much about results for my liking. He even 'moaned' about his side being weakened because some were brought to the U23. I mean, seriously?

I continue to harbor reservations about him as a top level manager and for one, am in no hurry to have him as manager of Liverpool FC. If he shows the level of competence and gets the job on his merit, fair enough. I just don't buy the 'he's a hell of a player and he'll do well' argument.

{Ed025's Note - im with you sg..

3.) 29 Apr 2018 13:30:04
happy to see him leave hope he does well but for me would rather see someone like xabi become boss out of all the ex players as he is a nice guy off the pitch as well as on it
just my opinion guys so don't get upset.

4.) 29 Apr 2018 14:35:43
There should be other credentials to become a LFC manager not just an ex player or legend. We as a club are moving in the right direction, we need to take all our decision in every department and every level with lot of thinking and without any emotional attachment. Gerrard the youth manager is just a young manager learning his trade and i will not even consider or put him in the same sentence as a senior manager as i don't want us to go back to the Souness era and start the process from scratch again.
We as a club have the hope of regaining back our lost PORCH and should not jeopardize that for any player, ex player legend.

5.) 29 Apr 2018 12:49:12
I can see your point but I'd agree with ed01 and stay clear of sending any promising youngsters there. No disrespect to the Scottish league, but I'd prefer to send our loans out to championship level, where there are at least half a dozen teams at a good level and another half a dozen that are equivalent to Scottish league level.
Rangers are a big name from the past only at the moment, who knows what the future holds for them and maybe attracting Gerrard there could be a catalyst for it. The impression that I get from Gerrards side though is he's not willing to put the time and effort into learning the basics of management and thinks that because of his global name as a star player will carry him through. I suppose if he starts anywhere though, Rangers will at least be an education for him.

6.) 29 Apr 2018 16:27:29
Spot on, Ed. At that age, youth development should be paramount, not results. SG needs to go prove himself elsewhere so he can be exposed to the realities and nuances of top level management instead of hiding at a club of which he is a legend. Being a legend is to me, the worst quality to have if being a manager at LFC is what you eventually want. We need a manager who is management-ready, proven and has shown his success elsewhere. If a legend is NONE of those things then, he should go get them first then he can apply for the position afterwards.

7.) 29 Apr 2018 17:09:08
How about Pepjin Linders as a future manager? How’s it going for him in his first managerial role?

8.) 29 Apr 2018 17:34:39
I think that Stevie G should go to Rangers, but I can see it all ending in tears,
I don't think that he will do that much for the club, they have so many problems,
maybe we have someone lined up to take his job coaching the younger lads,
someone that will stay and give his all for the club,

9.) 29 Apr 2018 17:39:35
I don't think Gerrard has any interest in youth football. I suspect he took that job to be around in case Klopp struggled, and he could parachute in.

Klopp isn't struggling, so Gerrard is moving on. Good for him, and good for the club.

I also thought it was a little odd that, as a current Liverpool coach, he was also a TV pundit commenting on LFC games, saying things like "that's a bad result for Klopp" (I think that was after the FA cup loss) . I don't remember seeing an arrangement of that nature before.

10.) 29 Apr 2018 20:20:34
Red67, I have always had a problem with SG doing punditry and the club should never have allowed it.

11.) 02 May 2018 14:02:05
BR agree. Especially when most punditry are of no value add to the sport, the clubs, the supporters, of anyone of relevance to the game.

Our biggest mistake in the summer in my opinion, was not keeping hold of Lucas, or getting someone with his experience, attitude and desire to do the ugly things in a game. Remember last season, Harry Kane never got a kick out of Lucas playing centre half at Anfield. Lucas was the best player we had positionally, tactically for defensive situations and better in the air than Matip and Lovern. I admit he was exposed against Vardy playing a high line, but that was a system error with him playing centre back. I also believe that his personality around the place is a big miss. I'm not sitting here saying he's the solution to all our ills, but going forward would you be confident in a pair of any of Matip, Lovern, Klaven and Gomez. A Lucas or even say a Kolo Toure of this world would fill me with a lot more confidence. This is not an attack on any of the above players, it's just that none of them seem to be able to defend in the true meaning of the word. Carragher, was not 6'4'', not the quickest, not able to play 50 yard diagonal pass from deep. But he could organise those around him, put himself in the right positions at the required time. And importantly defended his goal as if his life depended on it. Sorry! Rant over glad to get off my chest.

CaisterRed77

1.) 24 Oct 2017 21:03:48
Lucas was not up to the job either, his legs had gone a long time ago and he was not the biggest of lads either. He worked well in games where we had a lot of posession but crumbled when questions were asked. Fantastic servant for the club but his time had come to leave.

2.) 24 Oct 2017 21:11:53
Sure AW, but we didn't even think about replacing him!

3.) 25 Oct 2017 00:44:34
Have u seen Lazio this year they are flying he has fitted in perfectly I might miss Lucas I also miss sakho players with leadership qualities and character.

4.) 25 Oct 2017 02:48:31
We had a ready made replacement for Lucas in Kevin Stewart but Klopp decided to sell him too.

{Ed001's Note - he was not good enough.}

5.) 25 Oct 2017 03:17:02
So mister Caister77, who do we sell so that we can buy? We need to sell somebody. And Lucas down the pecking order so much.

6.) 25 Oct 2017 07:28:46
Sell Lovren? lol.

7.) 25 Oct 2017 11:24:04
Agreed Lock96, who in their right mind would buy him?

8.) 25 Oct 2017 11:34:27
West Ham? lol they bought Zabaleta.

9.) 25 Oct 2017 12:53:08
I think that is a very valid point caisterred. He linked the south american/ Spanish players with the England players. I would have kept lucus. Did he want to go or was he gently pushed?

{Ed001's Note - he wanted to go for regular first team football. The club let him decide as a thank you for his long service.}

13 Aug 2017 18:07:00
Doubters to believers, was Klopp's message from the beginning of his tenure. Over those 22 months we have made progress, players improving and targets hit (top 4 16/ 17). Yet we the fan base seem to be in a negative spiral of doom and gloom at the moment. I admit my concern at the defensive lapses from yesterday must be addressed one way or another once and for all. But the attacking trio Mane, Firmino, Salah look very dangerous, not to mention the depth behind them. Sturridge, Origi and Solanke anybody? Coutinho is an artist any team in the world would be sad to lose, but the club is bigger than any one individual, we'd move on like before ala Keegan, Rush, McManaman, Owen, Saurez. Transfer window is still open and as far as I can see our top target's haven't moved to rival's as has been the situation in previous windows. Rival's domestically also having issues regards squad building. Chelsea seems to be doing the usual infighting again. Spurs have for them a golden generation/ team but they haven't won anything yet and if they don't this season will the squad break up, showing signs of fracture already with Rose. City spent a fortune again, but still not convinced that there recruitment this season is any better than the last 2. Arsenal similar to ourselves, lack of signings they wanted, plus questions about star player. Utd still maybe lacking creativity and pace in wide positions. Let's see how things look after six games, keep optimism and cast aside doubt and have some patience before we make drastic judgements on our season ahead.

CaisterRed77

1.) 13 Aug 2017 18:30:20
You are right, we should wait and judge after 6 games that's why I've framed from posting after the match and it's good to read a positive post atm.
I am however really worried with our defence and I don't see why Gomez isn't given a chance, what do we have to lose.

2.) 13 Aug 2017 19:19:10
Is that the same gomez whose first involement was to give the needless free kick that resulted in mignolet saving for the corner which resulted in the the third goal.

3.) 13 Aug 2017 21:24:05
Spot on, OP. I will say that Klopp's subs were terrible as 007, alluded to. TAA played 90 mins. Why was he subbed off for the final 5 mins of added time for Gomez, who was not in rhythm and was caught out every time he touched the ball.

15 May 2017 19:25:50
Atmosphere at Anfield going to be key against Middlesbrough, this is a difficult game guys, so much more so than West Ham. Boro defend pretty well, and will play with pride and tanacity (unlike West Ham) . Players like Gibson and de Roon will be looking to Impress in the shop window. Downing, Ayala and Barragan with points to prove no doubt. Seems lately if things don't go well straight away the crowd gets edgy and this transmits to the players. And we have a habit of making things difficult for ourselves. So my message is let's get the team over the finish line, make this our best performance of the season, make Anfield a cauldron of noise for 90+ minutes, no matter the situation.

CaisterRed77

1.) 15 May 2017 20:10:32
Why, are we playing a cup final?

Must have missed that one.

2.) 15 May 2017 20:16:42
Ridiculous reply. How is this not like a cup final?

3.) 15 May 2017 20:19:55
You don't see the importance of the crowd to help Liverpool to get a top 4 spot at least Davey? I find that strange indeed. Actually it should be a given that the crowd "do their bit" in every game.

4.) 15 May 2017 20:43:52
Managed to bag myself a ticket today for Sunday. I'm buzzing already. I'll be singing my cotton socks off :)

5.) 15 May 2017 23:24:19
you just know that Anfield is going to be tense. unless we get an early goal to get the crowd going. well, I dunno I never been there! but that's just how it comes across on tv and is what the commentators say!

6.) 16 May 2017 10:53:26
The fans had better be ready to support the team through a very difficult game because Boro will not roll over that easy. They will give their all and so will we. If we play the same team with the same formation as vs West Ham, we will be fine.

7.) 16 May 2017 14:46:45
play the same team again, get stuck in, faster football, and were going to win this one, Boro will not like it . come on you reds .

I’d argue that we have quite a lot of depth at rb currently TAA, Gomez, Milner, Clyne, Camacho have all played in this position at sometime or other this season. Not to mention possibly Ki-Jana Hoever in the next 18-24 months will be knocking on the door for regular first team football. Granted Clyne could be moved on, and Gomez will inevitably end up at centre back. Personally can’t see TAA evolution into the middle of the park in the next couple of seasons at least, trouble is he’s just to valuable to the team where he is at the moment! Can’t see the point of bringing in established names as above on high wages, stunting the opportunity for the younger guys. However if pushed I’d happily bring in Max Aarons from Norwich and have him Camacho, Hoever compete for the role long term.

In all honesty can’t see any loan moves for the likes of Woodburn until the end of the window. With the World Cup in June/ July players are going to be given opportunities to impress in preseason whilst the internationals come back at varying points. It’s difficult to judge how to proceed, personally I think he needs to play against men now, get games under his belt and kick on again. Can easily see Klopp wanting him around again next season though, as he’s versatile and can cover several positions. Think it would help him if he could define a preferred position mind. SPL didn’t do Van Dijk any harm did it.

I’ve heard that Buvac has been in discussion with Eintract Frankfurt about there managerial vacancy, after Kovac agreed to take on the Bayern job! Guessing could be some truth in this as Kovac agreed his move within the last couple of weeks, making the domino effect and German clubs seemingly efficient in making plans well in advance of the new season.

Was thinking of Wilshire when he was so promising at a similar age. But he went off the rails, didn’t live the correct lifestyle, believed his own hype and had injuries. But I think he had talent and traits similar.

CaisterRed77

{Ed001's Note - except he had a terrible first touch, which is what caused the injuries due to overstretching to control the ball. Why do people ridiculously overrate such an average (at best) player?}

Personally can’t see either Shaqiri or Origi starting tomorrow even with Firmino and Salah on the sidelines. Klopp has said in his presser that we don’t need to score 3 in the 1st 10 minutes. Get your best XI on the pitch and work around that! Think Barcelona will start with the XI they finished 1st leg with, narrow midfield 4 with Suárez and Messi up top, playing on the counter. Think we’ll get our best opportunities from playing with width and set plays. So can see us playing 4-5-1
Allison
Gomez Matip VVD Robertson
TAA Henderson Fabhino Wijnaldum Milner
Mane
Then using Shaqiri Origi and Ox as impact players off the bench.
1-0 up with 20 mins to go would make for a grandstand finish.

Personally I find today’s footballers over managed/ coached players are like robots in many respects drilled to do the exact thing depending where they are and where the ball is. The modern game is played on carpets, compared to battle fields of 70s and 80s. You’d struggle now to be top footballer without being an elite athlete. Players of the past were working class, done things like you and me you could relate to them more. Players in the 70s and 80s managed a game way better, they could change things without looking to bench for help! Dalglish was unbelievable with his back to goal he was without equal, his ability to bring others into play was uncannot and watch some of his goals, his finishing was top draw.
