Ed001 do you know what is generally considered the peak age for footballers?

Iirc it's around 24-28, by the start of next season the players in that range will be Kelleher, Trent, Konaté, Gomez, Tsimikas, Jota, Diaz, Gakpo and Darwin. 9 players but arguably only 4 first choice and no midfielders.

Go back to the 18/ 19 CL winning season and we had Ali, Virg, Matip, Robbo, Moreno, Fab, Gini, Hendo, Ox, Shaq, Mo, Bobby and Sadio. 13 players and apart from Trent it includes our entire first choice starting XI that season. The only 29+ were Mignolet, Lovren, Millie, Lallana and Studge all backup/ rotation.

{Ed001's Note - it varies on position usually, also the way a player plays will change their peak. Generally it is accepted as 27-30 as they have experience and physicality at those ages. But a centre-back and goalkeeper tends to peak at 30.}

Much also depends on their injury history (including luck), biomechanics and body type and composition.

And the lifestyle they lead off the pitch.

Throw in genetics as well.

So it differs player to player? Cue surprise. Fowler and Owen peaked at younger ages. Not their fault but its a fact. It isn't an exact science really. Logically mid 20s to 30 but with modern tech/ meds mid 30s. Buffon still plays at a decent level.

We're not doing too well in that age bracket either Ed001. Of our current squad which midfielders do you consider to be in their peak?

{Ed001's Note - none.}
