Hope this is not a silly question but how do you feel shankly and paisley would of feared with managing in this generation
With pep and klopp and different types like mourinho about
Interested in your opinions please mate
Cheers
Sorry that was to edd 001.

{Ed001's Note - difficult to know, but you would expect them to adapt as that is why they were the best. They were always improving and, particularly Paisley, were ten years ahead of their time tactically and in terms of coaching methods.}

Do you think the 442 still would have been used by them or maybe another formation?
Really appreciate the feedback by the way thank you.

{Ed001's Note - I think it would depend. Paisley mostly used 4-4-1-1/4-4-2, which would switch between 4-3-3 and 4-5-1 during play anyway. His formation was extremely fluid, so I think he could well have done so. It is not far off the way we are looking to play with Minamino behind Bobby to be honest. It was very much about great players being able to adapt to the situation as it unfolded, so it would probably depend on the players he had available to him. I don't think the formation is actually all that important really, other than for defensive purposes, in the modern game. Too many people get hung up on them, when they are only really relevant below the top teams.

If you look at Man City for instance, Pep will use, on the face of it, a fairly standard formation, but then he will give different instructions for different opposition. So in one game they will defend as a 4-5-1, but going forward the full-backs will often move inside to become the holding midfielders, rather than play wide, to free up the likes of de Bruyne and Silva to play with more freedom all over the pitch. With our lads, you will often see Mane pop up on the right or Bobby overlap him on the left or the three just swap around. The formations are not set in stone.}

Excellent response Ed - both City and Liverpool have played 4-3-3 on the face of it, but in completely different ways.

{Ed001's Note - I was actually in the middle of working on the next in the series of articles on tictacs about a 4-3-3 and Pep's use of it, so it was good timing. I will have to hurry up and finish it.}

Ed do you see minamino becoming a permanent fixture in the team this season?

{Ed001's Note - I don't think anyone will do that this season, the games are packed tighter together so there will be an increased need for rotation. Plus there are likely to be times when players have to self-isolate etc.}

You're one interesting character ed1, bloody love the way you see things.

{Ed001's Note - usually when someone uses the word interesting, it just means they are too nice to call you weird! ;-)

It’ll be an interesting article

I think rather than formation, it’s better to think in terms of
1) who provides the creativity and the assists (city = midfielders De Bruyne/ Silva, Liverpool = Firmino + fullbacks)
2) who attacks the box (city = mostly Aguero/ Jesus, Liverpool = mostly Mane and Salah)
3) who provides the width (City = wingers, Liverpool = fullbacks)
4) who provides cover in case of losing possession (City = CDM + fullbacks, Liverpool = CDM + midfielders)

Contrasting the two 4-3-3 systems is like chalk and cheese! Main difference is perhaps that we had the better CBs and our midfielders provided more cover against potential counterattack than City’s FBs.

I thought the way they used de bruyne and foden to negate Trent and robbo in the last time we played was impressive. They cut off the supply lines well, something we may see others try this season.

Well Ed, i mean weird is quite fitting for you ;) I was just trying to say it in the nicest possible way. Lol.

How's it going mate, you well? How's Dubai life these days with all this bs going on? I haven't heard much about Dubai throughout all of this so I can only assume it's not that bad over there?

{Ed001's Note - it was named as the safest place in the world at one point, so no, not really that bad, but people often wear masks here anyway so it has not been that difficult to get the vast majority to do so now. Other than that, it is just a bit difficult financially, though hopefully it will sort itself out before I run out of people to borrow money from!

How about you? How are things there? Have you all coped ok?}

Well that explains why I never hear anything about your end Ed mate, good news that it isn't bad over there, whens the next flight out of here? Haha.

Yeah all sound here mate, where I am we really haven't had it that bad to be honest. I know nobody who's had the virus, I know a few who have had a cold and got paranoid about it lol naturally but nah, can't moan mate to be fair, it could be worse I suppose. All I want to see is everything back to bloody normal but what's normal nowadays?

I feel your pain mate in regards to financial difficulties, my income never changed because we worked throughout but it's been one hell of an expensive year. I don't like going from being comfortable to not so comfortable you know? But it'll work out, things always do :) .

Stay safe my friend.

{Ed001's Note - why has it been expensive? If it is ok to ask. Little really changes here as during the summer people only go out at night anyway, so everything is set up for people to stay indoors all door, such as food delivery etc. In fact some of the food you can get takeaway/delivered/eat out is cheaper than you could make it at home here, so you lose nothing really by being indoors other than overworking the AC. Luckily my AC is part of the rent, so it doesn't matter if I hammer it or leave it switched off all the time, it costs the same.}

So the ac Ed (understand I have no idea about it) if it weren't involved in your rent, I can only imagine it'd cost an absolute fortune?

The divorce kind of buggered me up mate, she got pretty much everything, she has the kids so you have to do what you have to do, you know? I left the house with my gear and my pc, that's it. But in the end the way I look at it is, do I regret it? Do I hell. I'm in a happy place and that's what matters to me. It just set me back a bit but we always bounce back mate :) .
