Morning Ed002,

Looks like you were spot on again regarding Pepe, Napoli are in talks with him.

Anyway. It's been well documented that the council are looking to improve rail links around certain areas of the city ( with Mersey Rail ) and the link up to Anfield has been mooted once again.

If a link up to Anfield go the go ahead, do you think it would enable the club to expand the ground more than the additional seats proposed in the Anfield Road End?

There is space at the back of the Anfield road end, where there is a mini fan zone but other than that, I think space is quite tight around the ground.

{Ed002's Note - The existing planning permission will be allowed by the club to expire in September. The club are looking to talk with the council and local residents about the options - although the views of the locals will be discarded. At some point later this year there will be some sort of statement by the club - intended to align with the planning permission running out, but I suspect it will be later. At this point n time nothing is off the table. There is likely some considerable jealousy of the new Spurs stadium.}

Would you swap the new spurs stadium for Anfield. I don't think anyone would do that.

Interesting one, I’m not so sure FSG will want to invest more funds in the stadium, I don’t think there will be enough room for more corporate areas, which ultimately brings in more revenue.

I for one would like to see it done as the season ticket waiting list is well over 20,000. Only 2,000 were allocated to the new main stand.

Re Tottenhams new stadium, I’ve heard it’s fantastic and personally, can’t wait to go Spurs away this season.

I think Ed47 might have to face the brunt of the jealousy over on the Arsenal page, maybe even Chelsea 😎

Have a good day Ed002, wherever you are in the world today.

{Ed047's Note - Spurs stadium is fantastic mate, love that whole bank for the home fans.

A ground steeped in history. Im not sure im convinced that a new stadium is anything but a hinderance. can't imagine the boys not running out under "this is anfield" sign. Be good to have more tickets available though. Its verging on the ridiculous. I don't know if ill ever see another home game. Especially hearing some of the stories abput queuing all day, from the crack of dawn and still not making it

This might spund like a daft question. Is the fenway ground where we played the 3rd preseason american game (brainfreeze! I can't remember who we played? "after seville game) was that ground built by FSG? Or just named after fenway (or coincidence i guess)

To be fair Liverpool fans have been talking about extending Anfields capacity long before Spurs got their new stadium.

Anfield is made by the supporters that are in it, its a very special and historical ground BUT would be nothing without the special supporters that fill it. Either way i believe the support in the ground would remain the same.

Anfield is Anfield and I wouldn’t swap it for any stadium anywhere in the world. The owners have kept to their word and increased capacity. I think these new stadia are sterile and soulless.

{Ed025's Note - its called moving with the times 6times, just because your not getting one does not mean they are sterile and soulless mate, some stadia need upgrading to conform with safety standards and sometimes its more financially astute to just rebuild..

8.) 26 Jul 2019
26 Jul 2019 11:04:45
6times didn’t say he wanted a new stadium. He said he wouldn’t swop Anfield for any other stadium anywhere in the world which is the complete opposite.

{Ed001's Note - just to answer Robbies' question, FSG are named after the ground as they started the company to buy Red Sox initially.}

I get your point 6Times but stadia get their souls from important victories and devastating loses over a long period of time. New builds require time to gain a soul.
That is why we are so lucky to have Anfield, it's soul is huge and has brought big clubs to their knees in the past and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. YNWA.

If you were to ask a Man City, Arsenal or West Ham fan which one of there stadiums, past or present had the best atmosphere, each will tell you the Kippax, The North Bank and The Chicken Run were by far the better days.

However I do agree from a commercial, financial and especially a safety point of view stadiums will need to be re built and why I think we are very lucky to be able to stay where we are, id hate it if we had to move.

We haven't lost a European Home fixture in years. Anfield is the most feared stadium i wouldn't swap it for Spurs. Ask Leo Messi.

ed002 I do think its more than jealousy of the new Spurs stadium we are only the 6th biggest ground in the league. And I don't know what Chelseas's plans are ed there ground plans have been going on as long as ours but am sure when they get it done it will be bigger than spurs just like spurs made there's bigger than arsenal's. And am sure it was no coincidence that the club made a statement just before Everton's new ground plans come out what looks really good and with the chance to boost there ground to 62000 if they fill it would leave us behind them too. And above all ed even if we don't increase the size of the anfield road end, it is in bad need of modernization I don't know the last time anything was done to it.

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with other clubs. There is no value in adding a few more thousand seats as the returns against investment are low. The club need to think on a larger scale and see what is possible. But they will also be aware of the costs - hence why they need to leave every option open.}

Ed025, care to name a new stadium built recently take either captured the atmosphere of its predecessor or improved on it?

{Ed025's Note - emirates for one john, i dont know if you ever visited highbury but the new ground beats it out of sight in every respect mate..

14.) 26 Jul 2019
26 Jul 2019 11:18:33
I agree, I wouldn’t swap it. Ed25 your proposed new ground looks great mate, but surely if it was feasible, you’d rather have been able to upgrade Goodison in the way we were able to develop our new main stand and, in time, hopefully the other stands too.

{Ed025's Note - unfortunately you cant turn back the clock hopeful, goodison and its infrastructure are relics of a time that was mate, i like a bit of nostalgia as much as the next guy but sometimes you just have to move with the times mate..

15.) 26 Jul 2019
26 Jul 2019 11:32:24
Ed025, it’s a shame that Goodison can’t be redeveloped, it’s a great bit of architecture, designed by the same architect who designed Anfield, and taking my red tinted glasses off for a second, I can’t deny there’s a tremendous atmosphere and history there. My attitude to stadiums is the same as buying a house, I’m just not keen on new builds.

{Ed025's Note - it is very old and a bit decrepit to be honest 6times (a bit like me) and modern day safety codes are getting stricter which means soon a lot of stadia will become obsolete, i love the old lady but everything comes to an end mate and now is the time for goodison i think..

16.) 26 Jul 2019
26 Jul 2019 13:07:29
Maybe we could buy Goodison and turn it into a car park for Anfield? Nice walk across Stanley park too. Everton have been parking buses there for the last 25 years anyway so local residents would be unaffected!

Anfield is iconic.

There isn't a single part of me that would change Anfield for another stadium, just too damn important to the football world.

If we had of moved, it would never have been the same. Ever.

26 Jul 2019 18:32:21
As much as I love Anfield, if we were to get a new stadium, I would not mind at all cos that is the way things go now with big clubs all over Europe now so the whole purist argument won't fly here. As for a new stadium being soulless, it is up to us the fans to bring the noise, bring the funk, the pump and pageantry to provide the ambiance at the stadium during games. After all when Anfield was built, the construction guys did not build the Anfield atmosphere as we know it. The fans and the manager and the players over the decades, did that.

Brick top I completely agree with you mate. There's no topping anfield no matter how many millions spent, its our fortress, if we built a multi million pound new stadium it'd never be the same. Unfortunately though, one day, we're going to see it happen and anfield will be gone, I just hope it's not in my life time.
