With Oxlaide-Chamberline, Lallana and Gomez back to fitness and Fabinho and Keita snuggling up to their medals after a season of bedding in and a few U-23s showing first-team readiness I can't understand the need to buy.

Who are the under 23s showing first team readiness? other than Brewster perhaps? We need to see these guys play against better talent than the first 2 friendlys.

Not sure I've seen the quality that everyone raves about regarding Keita, Fabinho as a signing seems leagues above him. Wjinaldum looked miles away from Keita as well. Not really getting the hype!

Brewster does indeed look good, but be interesting to see what happens to the likes of Wilson and Kent! Larouci has impressed me so far.

I'm all for optimism like the next fella . But realism need to be used. I'm more than fully aware we can't just spend like it's a game of monopoly, but we don't strength in this window and make us stronger and better in departments that needed it then we won't close that 1pt gap that was there at the end of the season, Brewster may well step up but it's a lot of pressure to put on a young kid to pick the slack up if our front three aren't firing (I would like another to help carry that burden with him ) . The owners stated at the end of the season that we would close that 1pt and the club will do all it can to do that. I can't help but feel for us to perform like we did again without adding will be a tough ask especially with players coming back late and will no doubt suffer some sort of flat tired burn out at some stage of a a season is a ask to much for us ( ox yes is one, llalana body can't be trusted to not buy in my opinion he breaks down to often for my liking and maybe playing Milner or a kid at LB if needed isn't really strengthening to close that gap in my opinion. and before you say it I'm not wanting 6 marquee signings but think we need some sensible ones that will really help us throughout the season )

Agree with DeanW about Keita, he needs to do a fair bit more this season to impress. He was unlucky with injuries last season and had a few games of note but was pretty underwhelming on the whole.

Keita needs to get fit and also make more effort to speak English, I’m sure there was something about him not having learnt the language kicking about? There’s a good player in there, I’m sure of it. Just needs coaxing out. I’m becoming more and more of the opinion that the current squad is good enough to compete without doing anything unless we have someone leave or there’s a major injury crisis. If we spent nothing more than we’ve done so far I’m not sure I’d be that bothered as I’m relatively happy to see Origi/ Brewster/ Wilson/ Kent/ Shaq as back up options to the main cast, and it’s not like we’re not well stocked in midfield or defence. Only gripe, and is we lack some skill and creativity in midfield. But that’s all.

Couldn't agree more, Let's talk regarding Brewster. People should not start putting unnecessary pressure on him cos that is where impatience kicks in and people should let him grow, mature and improve at a steady pace cos CF is the toughest position to learn as a youngster.

You can't spend like crazy every season. We have quality all over the pitch now and we have chemistry and togetherness and will to fight for each other. I am sure they do not want to get in a high profile player to disturb that and hence have to be very careful in signing a player.

Neymar, Pogba, Bale etc may be great players but i do not want them anywhere near my team for the primadonnas that they are.

I don't understand the view that if we don't sign anyone we will not bridge the 1 point gap. When asked about signings most people can only think of squad players - someone to push trent and robbo. Someone to cover the front 3. We have a fantastic team. Its very difficult to see how we could improve through signings.

Signing new players is not the sole way to improve a squad. Our boys are moving into their prime, they got better and better last season. I don't see how not signing Pepe or Fernandes will change that.

I disagree with the comments about keita. I thought he looked good in most of the games he played. I know its been a year but i just get the feeling its all a matter of settling in. I think once he has a real chunk of games under his belt we will start to see the best of him. He scored in his last 2 games before getting injured.
