Seen a lot of fans last week complaining about the cost of flights to Madrid, just like to say we get ripped off everyother week, having to pay £300 for a flight to liverpool from belfast then the next day when there's no match the same flight is £50. Not right companies can charge that amount.

I work them Belfast flights quite a bit we’ve probably met several times.
But anyway the flight prices are controlled via an algorithm that works on a demand basis, if lots of people are all trying to book at once it puts the prices up. That’s why the Madrid flights where ridiculous because the demand was ridiculous, Madrid flights are always quite full anyway so it was thousands of fans trying to book around 10 seats, the algorithm automatically throws the price up.
My advice is to look at the fixtures list well in advance and book as early as you can, might be worth looking to see where the champs league final is every year and book it as soon as you can while it’s cheap, then you can either go on a holiday or sell the flight to a fan (a name change is only about £30) if we are not in the final.

Disgusting isn’t it. I live on the Isle of Man, and for our annual TT motorbike races, the 20 minute flight from Liverpool goes from £40 to up to £550. for twenty minutes. It should be illegal for companies to exploit stuff like that.

How do they get away with it?

I do believe it is absolutely shocking that flight costs can vary so much and possibly more if an issue for me is hotel costs and the stories that people have rooms and bookings cancelled so they can re sell the room or apartment at the new going rate.

However it is a basic economic business model of supply and demand and they will view it as providing a service in high demand and at the end of the day they are still leaving their customers with a choice whether to take up that service or not. can't see it changing unfortunately.

I wait till the TV fixtures are announced Mickey but often that's still too late. Going to take a chance next week and book afew flights when season fixtures are out. Cheers.

It sucks but is it really any different than any other industry? What happens when demand for houses is high? Price goes up.

What happens when demand for oil is high? Price goes up

This is a method of controlling demand - increase the price to lower demand when supply is not sufficient.

Many companies use many artificial means of controlling demand - like withholding diamonds to artificially increase demand. Or producing only limited number of cars to control demand.

Like I said it sucks they do this but it's just how capitalist business works.
