Good review, cheers ed.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

First off - top marks as always. Many thanks!
Spat with Milner over the penalty - you're scaring us ed! Can you please tell us everything will be ok?

{Ed001's Note - I am sure it is fine mate, it was just some silliness.}

Great, thanks Ed. I was looking forward to this because I was unable to watch the game!

Even though I didn't see him play yesterday, what you said about Firmino is spot on. 'he is the key to the way LFC play. Without him there to link up the play it seems disjointed'.

This is so true, I remember last season and even some of this season people calling out of him, I can't understand how some people don't see what he has to offer to this team. We can all clearly see the difference when he isn't on the pitch and in my opinion the same goes for Hendo. Both very important players to this squad who don't get enough recognition.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

Great review Ed, well summarised.

Are you really that worried over Salah/ Milner’s penalty spat, though? I understand Salah was clearly annoyed by it at the time and apparently he just left the pitch straight down the tunnel at full time but they’re grown men with bigger fish to fry. Surely they can get over it and it’s will be forgotten about, if it hasn’t already.

In a way it’s good to see Salah wanting to score and take responsibility. We won the match, we have 5 huge games left this season, I’m sure by the time the Huddersfield game comes around he’ll be raring to go again.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know Salah does seem to be getting a bit big for his boots.}

Good review again Ed mate thank you so much. Didn’t think much of the Peno thing tbh, just thought it was a case of Mo wanting to put the game to bed having won the Pen?

Thanks Ed.
Would you start Gomez at the Camp Nou?
I’m hoping he’ll be ready by then tbh. Matip did well though.

{Ed001's Note - yes Gomez is light years ahead of Matip and VVD plays better alongside him too.}

I reckon with 3 league games to go, Salah is thinking about the golden boot.

Good read btw.

I thought the interview Salah gave after the spurs game with Carragher was an awkward insight into Salah’s Mind set. He was beyond desperate for the own goal to be given to him, I think a lot of people at the time kinda thought he was mucking about, but I didn’t and don’t. I think he’s as obsessed as Kane is about the golden boot. While I know we all think strikers should be selfish, I found that interview borderline uncomfortable and I can tend to see where ed is coming from.

{Ed0333's Note - I think he’s hell bent on proving to people that his failure with Chelsea was an anomaly. I don’t think the majority of the public realize how that failure affected him.

22 Apr 2019 21:18:08
I'm sorry but Salah has been ineffective for most of the games this season and he clearly lacks the amount of confidence he had last season. When the first choice kick taker is on the pitch he has to take the penalty and there should not be any arguments. Trophy first golden boot second!

{Ed0333's Note - ‘Salah has been ineffective for most of the games this season’ I’ll have a bag of what you’re on mate 🤣💭

Salah is a nice guy Ed but he does seem to have a selfish edge to him and I hope this is just him wanting to get Golden boot again and nothing else untoward.

I wonder who the last player was to have a 23 goal season but still be ineffective in most games.

22 Apr 2019 21:43:58
I think Trent needs to be replaced my Gomez for Bayern and possibly lovren for matip. Trent was ripped apart the first half and I’d it want for the assist and one decent game he’d get a three. He’s not good enough defensively to play against Barcelona and I think Klopp knows this.

13.) 22 Apr 2019
22 Apr 2019 22:27:43
Funny, Salah hasn't been that good apparently, but he's outscored player of the season candidate Raheem Sterling who plays the same position as him.

RedEka, so the joint top scorer in the PL and our top scorer in all competitions, who torments virtually every defence he comes up against, ‘has been ineffective for most of the games this season’. That’s a joke, right? If not, I take it you haven’t actually watched most of our games this season? And Lerchy, TAA ‘ripped apart the first half’? Really? The guy beat him a couple of times early on until TAA got his measure then he owned that right flank. He is an integral part of our attacking set up with the full backs offering width and creativity and remains first choice at right back.

I will take the sentence " Most of the Season " back! Apologies.

23 Apr 2019 03:02:41
It is an interesting point, cos I've had a similar wondering about Salah this season. Not really that he has been ineffective, because I think the numbers are hard to argue lol But I have often hoped to see him to take a stranglehold of the game in a different way to running at opponents and popping off a shot as he cuts in. ALtho to be fair, I think we are coming closer to that dream of consistent incisive interplay around the box. I just look at the likes of Salah to lead that link-up play cos he is so good. When we are struggling in matches, we can revert to type and pass the ball around the force field that is the opposition's penalty box looking for a cross. And then suddenly we'll play a couple quick 1-2s and spring the defensive line. I think we can do that with more confidence and consistency in games but understand we are working towards that!

22 Apr 2019 23:25:07
Cheers Ed001, enjoyed the review. Though Alisson might have been marked down a bit for flapping at their goal chance but I suppose one of the defenders should have helped him out with the man on him.

Ww so you’d start taa at the nou camp? Trent was ripped apart and gomez definitely needs to play rb at the nou camp, there’s a reason klopp brings Gomez in.

Silliness aside, it’s great to see a goal mean so much to someone like it did Gini. I’m sure most of us wouldn’t have been too disappointed if he left at the end of last season, it something has been ignited in him this, and he has deserved a starting berth in this team. He works hard, has good close control and is very tough to get the ball from, he reminds me a bit of dembele at spurs a few years ago, decent defensively too. As said before, confidence in his own ability seems to be an issue he has had, cos when he does power forward, he does well, and when he hits them, they stay hit!

20.) 23 Apr 2019
23 Apr 2019 00:34:36
Strikers need to be selfish so I have no problem if people are saying Mo is too selfish. When Rush arrived he wasn’t selfish enough. He asked Paisley what he could do to improve. Paisley replied along the lines ‘when you’ve got the ball in the box and you’re not sure what to do, put the ball in the net and we’ll discuss it later’. The rest is history.
If Mo is selfish then that is good. Too many players wanting to take a penalty is better than the opposite. It shows Mo is confident which is crucial.
Mo has not been ineffectual for most of the season. Just being on the pitch helps the team because he is heavily marked and it opens up space for others and he can pull defences out of shape.
If he wants to leave in the summer then he should go for a huge fee. If he doesn’t want to leave then he should stay 👍.

{Ed001's Note - that is not true about Rush Ron. That story is apocryphal. It was long before Rush that the comment was used. Rush took 3 years to get going.}

21.) 23 Apr 2019
23 Apr 2019 06:47:39
Personally I'm also glad Salah is selfish, he wouldn't of scored as many goals as he has done if he wasn't. If it wasn't for his goals alone, we wouldn't be in the title challenge right now. Carry on being selfish Salah mate!

22.) 23 Apr 2019
23 Apr 2019 08:45:55
I may have misheard but did Gini not say in his interview that the ref told him he would’ve given a foul on the keeper had they scored from their one chance in the game?
To then criticise Alisson for flapping when he was fouled is a bit much isn’t it?
Like I said I might be wrong but I’m sure that’s what Gini said.

The best athletes (in all sports) have that giant ego that keeps them motivated and pushes them forward. Keeps them going season after season, year after year. You can't get anywhere if you don't have that self-belief. So if it shows up in the form of selfishness, nobody should be surprised. You can debate if it's good or not, but all I know is that things are so competitive out there that you need every little inch of advantage to make it, and stay in the top level. It may be the Chelsea period that motivates him, but I think it's more sweeping all the awards last year and just generally being untouchable whenever he wanted to score. I wouldn't be surprised if he saw himself as the second coming of Ian Rush after beating his record (misguided in my opinion - one stellar season a legend does not make) . And when you are mentioned in the same breath as Messi and Ronaldo, then it's normal to want the same salary, perks and everything else that comes with it. Of course he wants that Golden Boot again, and of course he wanted to take that penalty.

24.) 23 Apr 2019
23 Apr 2019 10:04:59
I didn't notice that happening, but obviously it did then it looks like another sign of angling for a move. £150-200 million will do, I'll piggy back him to Madrid myself.

25.) 23 Apr 2019
23 Apr 2019 09:04:51
Ok Ed, I’m sure I heard Hansen recounting it but I know Rush took a while to get going. It’s a shame if it’s not true, however, I still believe the best strikers are innately selfish and I’m not worried at all if Mo is being selfish in front of goal. 🙄.

{Ed001's Note - that had been said years before to Ian St John by Shanks and then the story kept getting attributed to others.}

26.) 23 Apr 2019
23 Apr 2019 11:36:08
Taking what ed33 said above, perhaps Mo is so keen to prove to everyone that he’s the best and not a failure helps explain his keenness to take that pen. Being left out of the short list by his peers might have been a shock to his system, as people have pointed out he is the joint leading scorer and I suspect he will be hell bent on finishing top scorer to prove people wrong. My own opinion on him is that he is too selfish at times and he looks to cut in and shoot too often, 19 goals or not I think he can still contribute more in his all round game.

23 Apr 2019 11:43:46
Of course Salah has been effective this season, anybody who disagrees clearly hasn’t been watching us. But i do agree about his recent cockyness as it is beginning to make me uncomfortable. We could have scored so many more goals this season if only he passed the ball more, especially when he was having a dry spell. It is worrying and i hope Klopp has a word with him.

28.) 23 Apr 2019
23 Apr 2019 19:17:48
Was surprised you gave colin a 2!

I understand salah wanting to continue his goal scoring form. And, of course he wants the golden boot. But, milly is the better penalty taker. I pretty much know its going to go in, especially when we are leading the game. When salah steps up i worry. Arguably our best player, although mane is making a good case and i won't be surprised if he wins liverpool player of the year. Although that said VVD will win it. I feel mane is just as effective as salah and they are on similar goals. Mane may pip salah to top goal scorer for us this year. He is certainly gaining on salah imo

The brilliant thing is, i can't see a player in our team who is not proggresing. Perhaps Sturridge but we haven't seen enough of him to really judge. He has been more than hampered with injuries and he is getting on a bit. Heart not in it?
He started the season very well while bobby was recovering from the world cup. Since then its been drips and drabs.

I love salah and he's been excellent and playing a huge part in our season, lately though he is being slightly too selfish. That penalty was hugely important to finish the game and with Milner on the field he should have not been unhappy with him taking it. I was disappointed with him not celebrating that goal with his teammates. He was getting a lot of assists early on in season but is hardly getting any since, worryingly he's not even looking for a pass when he's around the box. Many interviews he keeps referencing the golden boat too which I think he shouldn't. I'm not having a go at him I love him and what he brings us, I just feel lately he's found himself in many positions where the shot isn't the best option on and he's not even considering anything other than going himself.
