Cant argue with any of that ed. Great article. Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

2.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 10:31:39
Great stuff as usual ed1.
Never got the Pogba lovin. Always feel like the kid in the emperor's New clothes when Pogba's "brilliance" is discussed.

{Ed001's Note - he only has to make one pass and people are raving about how well he played over 90 minutes.}

3.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 10:38:18
Great read Ed, I'm so glad Neymar was at number 1, he's nowhere near as good some make out.

4.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 10:39:04
Can’t argue with any of this Ed, it just confirms what we already knew that most of the media don’t have a clue about football.
I’d suggest a few English players should be there, however.

{Ed001's Note - there were a lot I considered from England, but decided to limit it to just the one who least deserved the ridiculous amount of praise heaped on them over the summer. I really do not get the hype around Trippier at all. He can't defend and is not particularly good going forward either.}

5.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 10:39:13
Agree with the list Ed though for me James Rodriguez should be in the top 3 if not number 1. Surprised Harry Maguire didn't make the list.

{Ed001's Note - Maguire is not rated by most fans, so I chose Trippier over him as people still seem to think Trippier is some kind of wonder crosser of a ball.}

6.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 10:46:47
the top 2 are most definitely spot on. I've never seen the fascination with either player. individual skills? I guess, but that's about it.

7.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 10:46:56
Wow, interesting read and i agree with the top 3 100% Neymar, quite rightly takes the trophy.

But dybala? He IS a top player isn't he?

I would have had stones and maguire before sanchez too, which you did allude to.

Keiran trippier played very well in the world cup but i agree, he is poor defensively. I wouldn't swap him AND sanchez for taa.

Cassilias wasnt in the list, i was surprised not to see him as many say he, buffon and neuer are the best gks in the game but Cassilias isn't in their league.

Last year i would have had raheem sterling but that has definitely changed. Fair play to him.

Can you do a list of the most underrated players in the game today? Hendo and firmino would most certainly be in my list.

{Ed001's Note - Dybala has ability but I have only once seen him play well and I have watched him a lot. Underrated is the next one I am doing mate.}

8.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 10:53:03
Great read that Ed, but how can you leave out Gerard Pique or Iker Casillas! Two of the most hyped players ever.

{Ed001's Note - because both are no longer highly rated. Most people in Spain think they should both be retired.}

9.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 11:01:10
Okay, tough one. Who is the most overrated liverpool player?

Salah? Robbo? Lovren? Keita? Firmino? Origi? Im going to guess matip or Sturridge get the most votes.

All of the lads have been brilliant this year and that is why this is such a tough question.

Thanks for the reply ed01, i look forward to the underrated list mate.

{Ed001's Note - on performances this season compared to reputation he came with, Keita would probably be up there.}

10.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 11:07:28
Tbh Robbie, I’d still have Sterling there. He’s improved as a player, but he still can’t kick a ball properly, and hugely benefits from the system he is in rather than making the system better.
I hear some journalists calling him the best player in the Premier League, which is the most outrageous statement I have heard since about 2011 when the media were also calling Jack Wilshere ‘world class’.

11.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 11:10:32
Thought I'd see Sergio Ramos in there. No question he can be an absolutely fantastic defender on his day, but more often than not, he's just a short-tempered bully getting away with murder.

{Ed001's Note - is Ramos ever fantastic? Never seen it that way. But everyone hates him already, including most Madrid fans, so not sure he is that rated any more.}

12.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 11:14:42
Also, if you consider wage-to-quality discrepancy, Aaron Ramsey has to be considered one of the most overrated players in the world (400k a week! ) .

{Ed001's Note - good point.}

13.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 11:15:40
Ed001 I'd have had Declan Rice in there. I'm still struggling to see anything to convince me he's not just the next Jack Rodwell or Eric Dier. Why do so many centre backs suddenly fancy themselves as midfielders?

{Ed001's Note - I disagree on Rice, I think he is an excellent player.}

14.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 11:24:01
Got to agree with James Rodriguez KK. What a waster he is! I've Seen Neymar live a few times and he's a luxury player don't rate him at all. Best games seem to be in a Brazil shirt and we all know how bad Brazil are now.

15.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 11:39:29
Jack wilshere has to be mine.

16.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 11:39:46
Lowwel, sterling is probably going to be voted player of the year. Its him vvd or b silva. He has scored some crackers this year which, for me, put the myth that he can't kick a ball, to bed.

17.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 11:50:59
I know this won't be a popular opinion as he is a good player but I'd have to mention Harry Kane. An average world cup where he scored a few penalties and deflected goal and he was suddenly the best striker in the world, and this wasn't just the media saying it either. And then to add to that, gets an MBE, for what exactly I don't think anyone knows but he got one anyway.

18.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 12:09:42
Walker is another overrated barb in the league. With Kasper the GKband players like Willian, Pedro, Auba needs a mention. I didn't saw many games of Auba in BVB shirt but he isn't worth the hype when I started to watch him in Arsenal shirt. Don't know why he gets more praise than Laca.

19.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 12:39:40
Good article Ed. I am guilty of hyping Dybala but I've actually watched him and haven't seen him play well for club or country. Do you think he is a CAM, winger or a number 9? I don't think managers know what his best position is, neither do I tbh.

{Ed001's Note - nor me. I have not got a clue where he plays best because he seems to be lacking something in every position.}

20.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 12:40:44
See that's exactly my point Ed001 😉

In all seriousness, I do think he's decent and good for his age. But I see people saying he should move to City and be first choice for England etc but I've not seen that level from him yet. I think he should stay at West Ham a couple more years until he's a more rounded player with more experience to fall back on and a proven track record for more than a single season.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, England he is good enough to play for.}

21.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 12:57:49
Great read ed001,I agree with them all but surely room for renato Sanchez?

{Ed001's Note - I don't think anyone rates him any more do they?}

22.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 13:04:57
Has to be Jack Wilshere, he’s the only player that gets ‘better’ and more ‘essential’ the less he plays!

23.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 13:15:17
Good list Ed001. I do agree with your assessment that for certain players it only takes one good pass for the media and fans to say he has played well the full 90 minutes. Ridiculous.

I'd be interested to see your opinion on the Messi and Ronaldo debate. Do you have a preference? Both are unreal and I find myself switching from one to the other after one of them scores their latest hat-trick.

I know we should just appreciate both of them but humour me!

{Ed001's Note - I am going to do those two for a comparisons article mate, so probably best to save it for that.}

24.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 13:35:16
I was going to float the idea of an article on it but I am a pretty impatient guy and wanted your opinion now haha!

I look forward to reading it though. And I am sure you'll make me think twice on it again. Hopefully it's near the top of the list?

{Ed001's Note - very near, only got about 4 or 5 comparisons requested so far.}

25.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 13:57:41
That's great. It's also a fantastic idea on articles.

A few pop in my head. Gerrard v Lampard v Scholes would be an intresting read.

Possibly Klopp Vs Guardiola as well?

I'd have loads for you but I'm sure you have enough to be getting on with.

{Ed001's Note - the first one I did was the Gerrard/Lampard/Scholes one: Football Comparisons 1 as it was the one everyone keeps on about.}

26.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 14:19:44
I would love to step into an parallel universe and see what became of James Rodriguez if he didn't score THAT goal. Surely, he has got more mileage out of one single performance than any other player?

27.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 14:28:35
Ha, of course. Forgive my incompetence. I am still trying to feel my way through this website.

Suddenly my afternoon has looked much more exciting. I look forward to giving this a proper read after work.

Thanks you Ed.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, I hope you enjoy it.}

28.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 15:31:54
Gerrard was better than lampard and scholes. Hands down. And that's not red tinted. The other two played with better players for most of their careers. Liverpool in 2005 and 2006 and then in 2012. Other than that we barely qualified for big ears. And stevie still out shone them.

29.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 15:33:17
Ed can you do a list about most overrated managers i think
Guardiola and southgate, luis enrique would be very high.

{Ed001's Note - ok mate added it to the list.}

30.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 15:35:50
Someone said harry kane for most over rated?!?

I don't like the guy, me and my brother were watching the goal that wasnt his but eriksons the other day.

But, he won the golden boot twice in a row. Almost 3 in a row but for super mo. And he won the golden boot at the world cup.

He may be a d##k but the lad knows where the goal is. Someone who consistently scores 20/ 30+ a year cannot be called over rated imo. In the premier league.

31.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 15:38:35
Dybala is a show pony and lazy. Busquets is massively overrated. Neymar is a brilliant technician (some of his play at Barcelona was unreal) but is a poor team player and a cheat. Pogba is a one good game in four player.

I’d add Hazard who is one of the very best yet only turns up when can be bothered (fingers crossed that’s Sunday but I bet he turns it on as knows Real will be watching! )

Lukaku is possibly the worst finisher I’ve ever seen. £80m for a donkey and that’s insulting to Eeyore!

Richarlison is possibly in the top 5 as his end product is and always was terrible.

32.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 15:45:18
I felt sure you’d have Jorginho in there Ed. He came to England amidst a fanfare (mainly from Harry the City fan) and proceeded to stand in 5 square yards of pitch and play 5 yard square passes every game. Then the media were all over him saying how his pass completion percentage is so high!
Signing him was the worst thing Sarri ever did, not only because he’s crap but it also moved Kante out of position.

{Ed001's Note - his rep has nosedived this season.}

33.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 16:54:06
Many people will disagree but I always thought Roberto Carlos was overrated. I think he like James lived off one super goal but was not a great defender. What do you think?

34.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 18:12:32
Manuel Neuer is over rated still classed as the best keeper on the planet

Lewandowski aswell maybe?

35.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 19:18:20
1jj, I agree at times in the past there's been arguments for Hazard being included in this list. But in his defence he's coming off his most productive season ever, hard to include him.

Great list Ed001, was surprised by some of the names thrown in but you justified them well, talent isn't enough. The Neymar at PSG reminds me of the Neymar that first arrived at Barcelona, highly ineffective and incredibly arrogant despite his obvious talent. Was at his best when he wasn't the 'star' of the team. The hype around Trippier is truly baffling, every decent winger in the league seems to make a meal of him.

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate.}

36.) 11 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 20:25:05
Ed001, how about list of all time top 10?. I have seen from 2000's, still don't understand the man love for Messi and Ronaldo for the GOAT. I think Brazilian Ronaldo, Ronaldinho should be head and shoulders ahead of both. So the list will be very good.

{Ed001's Note - ok mate I will do something with that.}

37.) 12 Apr 2019
11 Apr 2019 23:45:54
Might get shot down but I always thought Beckham was overrated myself, never saw what some did, and Joe Cole, never got those horrendous step overs lol!

38.) 12 Apr 2019
12 Apr 2019 00:10:29
Kane is suited to the premier league and would be found out if he ever moved IMO.
I like Dybala, I think in the right team he’d be up there with Aguero. He should play in the Aguero role.
I always thought Rooney was massively over rated.

39.) 12 Apr 2019
12 Apr 2019 09:31:05
Henderson should surely be on this list.

40.) 12 Apr 2019
12 Apr 2019 09:59:48
Rooney was a revelation at everton and with england early on. But he is englands all time top goal scorer. I agree he was a bit over rated later on in his career but just that goal for everton past heart last season. Nah, the kid was excellent. The man became a bit complacent but he had massive talent.

41.) 12 Apr 2019
12 Apr 2019 10:01:04
And someone said they can't understand the man love for messi and Ronaldo?! I know youtube can make anyone look good but just check out some of their play. UNBELIEVABLE.

42.) 13 Apr 2019
13 Apr 2019 00:39:57
Was having a think about it, great list but I think one noticeable absence might be Isco. Casual fans still seem to rate him but I understand if his lack of game time this season meant he didn't make it.

Was there an underrated version of this at some point?

43.) 13 Apr 2019
13 Apr 2019 19:03:39
Great topic. Anyone else feel Marcos Alonso is very overrated. I think he's very poor defender and people get blinded by his goals and assists. I'd fancy salah to give him a tough sunday.
