Did anyone watch the United match tonight? The commentary was an absolute joke, if Mcmanaman stuck his head any further up the United players rear ends hed have been wearing them as a hat! In the first half he blasted Barcelona for their arrogance for “thinking it was their god given right to play out from the back” (that’s an actual quote! ) and then in the second half praised United for having the confidence for doing the same thing!

I lost count of how many times he said united had been by far the more dangerous team even though they didn’t register a shot on target! The United love in really is embarrassing! Compare that to our commentary last night with Robbie savage and whoever the clown sat next to him was where it was blindingly obvious they were dying for a Porto goal!

I know it’s pedantic but it really annoys me when these so called experts really kiss the asses of United! Since solskjaer come in, you’d think united were running away with the league the way these commentators was lyrical over them when really they had a few good results when he first came in but it’s starting to look a bit rocky now! Wait until the players stop playing for him and throw their toys out the Pram and let's see if everyone loves them as much then!

{Ed0333's Note - Steve Mcmanaman must have one of the cushiest jobs in sports broadcasting and he’s terrible at it, I can’t believe ESPN actually pay him. Then again they employ the imbecile that is Craig Burley and the Stevie Nicol who is plain rubbish so what do you expect. i lose count the amount of times Mcmanaman contradicts himself in commentary and genrally talk profound bunkum. It’s an insult to 9nes intelligence hearing Mcmanaman commentate.

He has the brains of mccateer. Why not have united pundits for there games and Liverpool pundits for our games? I hate it when Neville commentates on out hands and pretends to actually like us, same with macca.

I get where your coming from lerchy, I have to either put his Mancunian gob on mute it irks me that much when he commentated on our home games, or I listen LFC tv, I've even gone to the length of having a second telly specifically cause of Neville's horrible voice, don't get me wrong he's not a bad lad but if Jamie Carragher can cool his accent I'm sure Neviille can tame his, I'm certainly not looking forward to buying Gary Neville audio books in the future.

I totally agree JK_Red. If anyone would have heard that on radio and for some reason didn't know the score, they would have thought Porto were actually dominating the game. They kept moaning all game long and even called shots from offside positions great opportunity missed by Porto. Stevie too is a pretty poor commentator.

I dunno, i HATE utd. We all do, of course.

But in European football i want the english teams to beat the foreign teams. I guess its tribalism. When utd won big ears against bayern, late ole goal. I cheered.

I disagree. Macca is just honest. He commentates like he talks. Nothing wrong with that. You don't have to have super intelligence to commentate. I rather have someone with a personality over someone who bores me with statistics etc. Just my opinion. Think your moaning for the sake of moaning.

@farmerfc what do you mean macca is just honest? If his honest thoughts during the game were that UTD were the far more dangerous team then he really shouldn’t be commentating on football. I agree that Barcelona weren’t brilliant and didn’t pose much of a threat other than the goal and the coutinho shot, UTD’s threat was non existent apart from one Dalot header which should have been on target! It was a very scrappy game and McManaman was going on as if United were peppering the Barcelona goal with shots all game!

The games about opinions. That's what he thought and was giving his opinion. It's a pointless conversation.

Farmerfc1515, I loved Macca too as a player. Watched him play for LFC and Euro 96 where he was the best player on show in the whole tournament. That does not remove from the fact that he often talks rubbish and contradicts himself a tonne. You say he is giving an honest opinion. Really? He is? So tell me, how can you give an honest opinion about something that is NOT actually happening? If Utd were the most dangerous team on the pitch then how come they did not register a shot on target all game? How come Ter Stegen made NO saves of note? How did it look like Barcelona never had to break a sweat toying with Utd if they were being "dominated"? Utter rubbish.

Utd were dreadful from start to finish and Barcelona did not really have to force their talent against a Utd team devoid of ideas and a manager who was being schooled by Ernesto Valverde who btw, is NO Pep Guardiola. People are free to have their opinions BUT it should be rooted in some form of clear reality and facts that we can all agree on. Macca was simply working overtime trying his best to convince us that what we were seeing (Utd getting their arses handed to them on a plate) was not really what was happening.

Maybe it's to keep fans engaged with the game. I don't know. There were periods in the game where United were building pressure. Maybe not as much as Macca had emplied but that is Maccas personality on the box from what I see. I don't think he tries to anything but himself and that will do for me. I like his commentry and you don't. That's fine. In fact it's groovy.

I get nervous when you say that ed0033 hahaha. can't help but think Macca the poster and Steve is the same person. What if he doesn't post again hahaha.

{Ed0333's Note - Macca the poster is a true friend to the site I’m sure he won’t desert us mate, and if he is the real Steve Mcmanaman then Ive just gone to the bottom of his Xmas card list.
