You had me for a horrid moment with the title of the second article. While I’m disappointed a player could leave in that vocal scenario and there is definitely something to be said about player power and their agents, I can’t help but feel he has a point in that we’ve mishandled quite a number of talented players in the youth system, and while I think it could be handled better, I would like to see us do a better job with the youth. I’m hoping taa and gomez (yes I’m aware of the Charlton irony) successes become less the rareity and more the standard. I do wish him the best if he leaves though. {Ed001's Note - I don't get his point, personally. He has never done enough to deserve a chance until now, so how could he get one? I just wish we would stop wasting money, time and effort signing players like this from other youth teams. I know Solanke made us a decent return, but it really is pointless and the resources would be better off being put towards the academy or the first team.}

Hi Ed, cheers for that! I saw somewhere else he was promised to be taken on the pre season tour, and then wasn't taken and lost faith after that. Can't remember who went on that or what truth is in that though.

{Ed001's Note - there is at least some truth in it. Not sure about any promise being made, but he was certainly led to believe that he would be going and given a chance to impress there. It is true he has been badly handled. The club is not built to handle this type of thing. With the likelihood that loan moves will become more and more restricted over the next few years, it would be best if we stopped buying in players like him that we have no plan of action for or ability to deal with their requirements.}

I completely agree ed, the youth system is a mess. Much of what he said is likely from the mouth of his agent bigging himself up for a deal. I think these types of statements will become a thing now unfortunately. Player/ agent power pushing things to happen years before they are ready. I’m happy for the club to do both, scour local football for the best young talent, while at the same time scour the rest of the world for the best as well. However, when we do get the talent, we need to do a better job with their development.

{Ed001's Note - we should not be buying players to develop outside of the team, is my point. We develop from the youth academy, or buy players that go straight into the first team squad. None of this in between, with players that might be good enough in the future. That is what the academy should be for.}

{Ed001's Note - they are in the academy mate, they were brought in to the academy. I am talking about that in between bit of potential. The ones who have left the academy, such as Solanke, but are not ready for first team football. Those are the ones that almost always flop because they are getting a move to a huge club and mentally they have made it. It is only natural that almost all that are brought in at this point are going to fail because of that. They need to drop down, not step up, to give themselves something to prove or they lose their drive.}

When you are a top echelon club you have to tailor your buys accordingly as players see joining LFC as a sign they are at the top end. The days have gone when you can stick 'em in the ressies and bring them back down to earth for a year or two.}

Ed, I completely agree with what you are saying from a football perspective.

Financially though could you argue there is money to be made from hijacking top prospects? We paid £500k for a 15 year old Sterling and sold him for £50m! We basically did the same with Ibe, Canos, Sinclair, Solanke and Teixeira too, on a much lesser scale. It seems wrong, but football is morally bankrupt!

I guess when you add up all the hidden/ background costs and factor in all the guys who don't generate A "profit" it makes the whole venture a bit pointless!
