Hi Ed001

Quick one - and genuine question.

Whenever someone mentions a top class player, you always seem to say - would be a replacement for Salah, or Mane. etc.

Why is this? Why can’t we add world class players to the squad like Utd and City?

Utd have Rashford, Sanchez, martial, Lukaku, Mata, Pogba - all attacking type players
City have Mahrez, Sane, Silva, Sterling, Silva, KDB, Kun and Jesus

I’m not being facetious, just curious?

Surely 50-60 games a season warrants rotation and players would expect this?

If Mane / Salah / Firmino isn’t performing we have poor quality alternatives, and for me will be the only reason for us not winning the league.

{Ed002's Note - You are not comparing like for like - Pogba is not a forward, nor now is Mata. Again with midfield you are no comparing like for like. Liverpool have Salah, Firmino, Mane, Origi, Sturridge, until recently Ings plus the likes of Brewster as forward options - how many games have the likes of Sturridge, Origi etc. Play? Hardly any. So even if Liverpool could afford £135M to buy Insigne, why would he move to sit on the bench? Ask Mahrez or Sane how it is going for them right now. As a Liverpool fan it is hardly a surprise for you to consider Sturridge, Brewster, Origi as “poor quality”. And Harry Wilson - give him a chance and sell him on? There is rotation in the cups, but in the league clubs need consistency, and chopping and changing players is not the way forward.

Spot on, Ed02. I think people look at City and say "Well, Sane, Mahrez and Sterling all play some part". Well, we are not city nor Utd so we cannot compare ourselves to them. Also, if the front 3 are definitely starters and you get an Insigne, what happens then? Insigne ain't coming here to sit on the bench for a second so why bother getting him if he is not going to be starting. I mean, even Julian Brandt did not want to come here and be on the bench so why would a player like Insigne do that?

{Ed002's Note - Things have changed with JB now playing a CAM role and it may make some sense - but I am not aware of interest.}

TI heard that as well, Ed02. I watched him play last season and indeed, he had moved to the no. 10 role cos Bayer had Belarabi and Bailey out wide now. I hope we are interested in him and can get a deal done cos he gave an interview last season, saying he actually wanted to come to us BUT he was not sure if he would start regularly enuff to make the WC squad. I take him at his word.

Ed002 is spot on.
The question is “does Klopp not play his fringe players because they’re not good enough or does he not play them because his ethos is play your best available team every game”?
We know Guardiola is happy to rotate his squad but we’ve never seen it from Klopp since he arrived. We also know Dortmund struggled from late season burn out which is associated with not rotating your squad.

The front three play all the games though because their is no one of similar quality challenging them.

{Ed002's Note - Nonsense. This who "pity poor Liverpool" nonsense is embarrassing. I am sure people won't be happy until Liverpool kick out the dead wood like Brewster, Wilson etc. and get some decent squad players in like Insigne and Werner to fill in when the front three are tired. All efforts to buy the league are working with the club top of the league but we still see constant bloody whining. You maybe want to look at other clubs sites where the fans support the team.}

From what i recall from his time in the Bundesliga, Klopp traditionally hasn't rotated his league teams that much. His tactics rely heavily on players understanding each other so that they can rotate positions on the field fluidly so obviously the more they play together the better this becomes. He is also clearly trying to offload some players so Im not expecting much happening this next transfer season in terms of players coming in.

Hi Ed

Thanks for the reply. I’m not daft and am well aware that they are not exactly the same type of positional players. I also believe in giving the kids like Wilson / Brewster a chance - just like McTominay and Foden.

My point is why we players shouldn’t be content to rotate with other players of their quality?

Studge / Origi / Lallana are great players on / in their day but better players have come in.

All I’m saying is 4 quality front players and a ‘kid (like Brewster for example) for 3 places should be accepted - considering all the games.

It works with the midfield - Milly, Hendo, Fab, Keita, Gini, Shaq all completing for 3 spots. And before you say it, yes, I’m aware that they all bring something different to the team - and that flexibility is exactly what is great in my opinion.

All I’m saying is why we can’t have a similar thing with the front 3. Surely better players would allow more rotation.

{Ed002's Note - If you are a Liverpool supporter and not acted should have you stuffed and put on display.}
