I think last night compounded the point of wh are we soooo terrible at corners!

I hope Klopp will make everyone who takes them practice 30 mins every day.

We have more goals from corners than anyone else in the league I think.

I think it's set plays but you're right.
We are not rubbish at corners.

Got to say that James' corners were spot on yesterday. If only we could do the same more consistently.

Our corners are rubbish. As has been pointed out many times, stats are useless. Just because we have the most goals from "set pieces" doesn't mean that we are actually good at taking corners.

Maybe we've had more corners than the vast majority of teams? Maybe that includes penalties? Maybe we're good at free kicks?

I would estimate that half of our corners hit the first man, and if they don't then the people in the box are stationary and not attacking the ball so very unlikely to actually score a headed goal.

We desperately need some work on corners. With the players we have they should be a real threat for us and they just aren't. When we get a corner I never have any expectation that something will happen.

Stats are by and large useless, but you can’t say we are rubbish at a set peice when we’ve scored more goals than anyone in the league from set peices. That’s not a rubbish stat it’s a fact.

Maybe we could be even better, but we are far from rubbish.

How were James' corners "Spot On"

They took 6 corners (1 more than us btw) and did not manage a shot on target. At no point did we really struggle to deal with a corner.

If we had 1000 corners and scored 10. But another team had 10 corners and scored 9, does that still mean we are good at corners?
Stats are used to be bent and mean absolutely nothing.

Are corners have been terrible for as long as I can remember! Wasn't there an old joke about LFC and corners?

Lamborini - James' corners missed the first man and were put in a place out of reach of Allison open to be attacked. We defended them well. Our corners reach the front post defender too often and offer no opportunity.

I think we play the corners to the front post by design cos we have seen Mane attack them at the front post. This is why it is difficult to judge corners cos we don't know what corner routines are being worked on. Having said that, if the designed method is not working then the players should be smart enuff to switch it up. Whether they are allowed to do it, is another story.

RedWolf is correct and by far the most effective corner is the one which JUST beats the defender at the near post.
It requires and incredible amount of accuracy which is very hard to achieve.
We’re guilty of trying to be too perfect, but that is the most effective corner when executed perfectly.
When you don’t beat the first man it looks AWFUL but in actual fact it’s not far off being the perfect corner delivery.

{Ed025's Note - but ron thats like saying a penalty that hits the post and bounces out is the perfect penalty mate, its not the perfect one is the pen that hits the back of the net, same with corners unless it finds a forward its no good, salah should not take any more corners until he learns how to beat the first man...how many times do you have to get punched in the face before you learn to duck mate?..

It’s not the same as a penalty which it’s the post, I’m not having that analogy.

A corner is a fairly low percentage scoring opportunity whereas a penalty isn’t.
A penalty requires you to beat the keeper only. A corner requires the ball to beat the defenders and keeper and to connect with an attacker and be on target.
The best way to cause the most risk in the penalty area from a corner is to just beat the near post defender.
That’s a fact, that’s why all the top teams have that as the default corner plan. It’s just difficult to execute.

{Ed025's Note - its not hard to execute ron, hit the ball a bit harder..or a bit higher, these are top professional footballers mate making schoolboy errors..

Bayern's corners were excellent. Right on the penalty spot every time, they just needed someone to attack it.
