Eds and Reds what do you think about keeping Fabinho alongside VVD until Gomez is fit? Matip and Lovren make me nervous and I think he's more solid and reliable there. I know he's important in midfield but I think it's more critical to be sound at the back. Any thoughts?

{Ed001's Note - and putting him in midfield helps us become more sound at the back, as well as giving us a better attack due to his excellent passing. Midfield for me.}

Interesting one, very interesting but if I HAD to choose, it'd be midfield for me too. He does a good job at CB but he does a better job in midfield. Lovren and Matip now, I think we'd be alright.

No way. He belongs in midfield unless we have absolutely no choice. His tackling has improved a lot, his positioning has also improved and his passing range is critical in pinging the ball deep behind defenders for the front 3 to chase.

Midfield for me too, we miss his passing and vision when he’s at the back. Tell you what though, we’ve signed a cracking player there, he seems to be able to sit into a number of positions and perform well.

Midfield, think we missed him there last night.

VVD is all we need 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼.

I see what you mean. He's really showing his quality in midfield. But Matip really makes me nervous. I hope he doesn't cost us.

Playing him in different Positions and not Midfield, and eventually he will end up as a " jack of all trades Master of none ".

Missed fabinho in midfield last night with his quick passing. It was a touch to much at times for me in our midfield.

I thought matip had a good game last night and overall he has played well enough when he has been brought in.

I would definately prefer fabinho in midfield come sunday.

Does Fabinho have a brother?

Personally I think Fabinho and vvd behind gini hendo and Keita is stronger than Matip and vvd behind Fabinho gini and Keita. I think for ‘must win’ games you start your strongest available back four.

If you were a striker would you rather play against Fabinho or Matip in defence?

Think you're being unkind to Wijnaldum there Firmane. Yes someone drops out of the midfield to accommodate Fab but I don't think it's Wijnaldum.

Gini has been class and his industry and skill make him 1st choice for me. I think he should have took the ball off salah's feet and smashed it right footed, low, through bodies last night. Hind sight is easy though. Surprised milly didn't start. I'd go hendo gini and milner for the away game.

And his cousin Slabhino; heard he’s a concrete defender! 🤦🏼‍♂️.

The reason I am confident about the away leg is because we are improving our first 11 by two positions. Firstly VVD at the back and secondly Fabinho in midfield. Leaving Fab in defence is a negative albeit he was solid.

Fab is better in midfield than in defence as it showed yesterday even tho, he and Matip played a blinder at the back. With VVD returning and Fab going into midfield, we are more sound defensively going into not just the 2nd leg BUT to OT this Sun.
