RIP Gordon Banks.

Another one to add to the player profile I think eds? Didn't get to see him play but from what I have heard there wasn't/ / isn't many better Goalkeepers.

That save against Pele springs to mind! Legend.

{Ed001's Note - he is on the legends list mate.}

Thanks mate.

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, I am in the middle of one but I will mark it as next to do for you.}

Condolences also to the family of Ian Ross who played 69 times for the club under Shankly and scored 4 goals he died aged 72, a tough tackling Glaswegian whose art was man marking he shadowed Beckenbauer, Charlton, Best, Ball. He who passed away over the weekend his position was actually Centre Half who had fantastic ball skills, he man marked Beckenbauer in a Fairs Cup game against Bayern Munich and scored the reds goal in a 1-1 draw. He moved to Aston Villa in 1972 and was skipper of the side that won the League Cup in 1975 he was also manager of Huddersfield Town and Berwick Rangers.

RIP Rossy.

Well said 007. Musn't forget "Der Kaiser's shadow" as he was nicknamed after that performance against Beckenbauer you referenced.

Sounded like he was a true proffesional of the game. Rest in Peace Ian.

Not long in from work to the sad news about Gordon Banks and now just learned of Ian Ross’ loss too.
Below is Banks’ last game before his car crash, he’s at Anfield in October 1972

So great was his repute, even then, that a countywide series of benefit games, in which he played, was organised for him months later after he lost his eye. Saw him in one at a 4th Division ground believe it or not, sell out crowd too.
