Hi fellow reds and the wonderful eds.
Glad to see that the mood around here is gradually lightening up.

This one is for Ed01, there's one thing I've noticed about Matip, he always carries the ball deep into the opponents half and somehow managed to lose it with a misplaced pass, there by creating big gaps behind for the opponents to attack us. I saw it happen several times in our last 2 games.

So what I'm wondering is, was this a big part of his game when he was in Germany?
because I didn't see much of him before coming to Liverpool. Did he pull it off most times? Because personally I think it's doing more harm than good trying those type of things. Van Djyk is a better ball playing CB and he doesn't even carry the ball forward as much as Matip.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know I had never see him play centre back before joining Liverpool.}

I would rather of kept Klavan and sold matip tbh.

I think teams set up tatically to invite him to do that, essentially setting a trap.

Spot on, taa001. It happened vs LC and WH. They set a "trap" for him and let him wander deep into midfield and then, press him there. Matip is not that intelligent to realize that it is a trap and seems to always fall for it. I did see him play a bit in Germany BUT I thought he would be good enough for us long term as his first set of performances suggested.

Since then, he has been super atrocious. I mean, he does not even do the basics well and lacks the bottle, desire, aggressiveness to be a top level CB. He instills NO fear on his opponents and if I was a forward, I would fancy my chances ALL day long against him. At least w/ Klavan and Lovs, you know you're in a battle. Esp. Klavan who was always ready for a fight, tough and tenacious in the challenge.

{Ed001's Note - I had seen him in Germany but in midfield. I was not impressed.}
