Ed01, had a blast from the past today when someone mentioned the name Karl Heinz Riddle. I'd completely forgotten that he'd played for us! The chap who reminded me reckoned he was a quality player in his time but probably a bit past it - like Litmanen - by the time he joined us. One for your legends list maybe?

I was, and still am, regularly at Anfield around the time he was there but had completely forgotten him! 60 league games and 11 goals according to Wikipedia but I'm guessing many as a sub as we had Owen and Fowler at the time. cheers Ed01.

I too remember being very excited when Riedle came in, but as per above felt that we got him a) at the wrong end of his career and b) feared he wouldn't be played where he could have been most effective a la Litmanen.

BTW, Jonny wasn't Karl Heinze Riddle Stoke's mortal enemy? Think about it ;-) :D:D.

First saw Reidle in the 1990 WC as understudy to Klinsmann and Voller. He was a truly gifted footballer and very good in the air for a guy of pretty average height. His best days were with Lazio and BVB where he won the CL vs Juve in 1997. I think he was past his goalscoring prime when he came to us BUT still, a very good player.
