I hope Klopp knows what he's doing here.

Origi, Sturridge, Shaqiri, Moreno and Matip start.

Firmino and Salah on the bench.

Keita starts in midfield ahead of Gini.

Come on Red Men.

I thought there would be changes but this is a bit of a gamble for me.

Is Lovren injured guys? Did I miss something.

Tho we need to rotate a lot during December, and with the next two game really hard this one comes in time so we can rotate like this.

Damn right Den82. I nearly spat out my tea when I saw the lineup. I just hope it pays off. I'm happy Keita is finally getting a start, Moreno playing has been forced on Klopp, and I'm guessing he doesn't want to bring Milner out of midfield.

I just think starting Origi and Sturridge together and having none of our usual front 3 is a massive gamble. Hopefully one of them can give us a moment of brilliance or two, and we can keep it tight at the back - but having both Moreno and Matip in the back four can definitely be exploited if their attackers can show some form.

@martolfc. Yes, Lovren suffered a clash of heads in training. Trent is on the bench though, so he could have played Gomez in the middle (who looks like he'll be a right back) .

Matip worries me.

6.) 05 Dec 2018
05 Dec 2018 19:11:52
I definitely would've stuck with Gomez in the middle and Trent on the right. We need a relatively settled defence to cope with the other changes, and indeed to cope with Moreno!

05 Dec 2018 19:16:08
I am shocked at the amount of changes. Yes, they are all experienced players but it takes some guts or stupidity to re write the starting front 3 before a must win (for the league to not get away from us) game away from home.

In Klopp we trust just Jeez he does put you through some emotions. Wow.

{Ed025's Note - it can only be one of 2 things BG, an absolute masterstroke...or an unmitigated disaster mate..

Burnley are making 5 changes themselves. All across the league the lineups are looking a bit different, so it’s not just us. It’s a test of our strength in depth and I was happier with our squad at the start of the season than I’ve been for ages, so I suppose that means I should be confident.
Go on then, I’ll stick my neck out, 3-1 to us!
YNWA.

Off course it's a gamble but I guess the players need a break. It will be a busy few weeks so Klopp has looked at the opposition and put a team out he hopes can get a result. Again, and I hate to mention it but it shows the plethora of talent City have at their disposal when we have to rely on Matip and Moreno etc. I'm just hoping we can get any type of victory.

Burnley 0:3 LFC

Matip not a bad shout for heading away long balls- and fingers crossed Burnley’s front 2 don’t develop some sudden pace between them.
Could actually play 3 with Milner and Moreno wide, stop those diagonals coming in
Hendo and Naby with Shaqiri in front behind Origi and Studge

Allison
Matip-VvD-Gomez
Milner-Hendo-Naby-Moreno
Shaqiri
Sturridge - Origi.

Struck me too AggerDo, wouldn’t be a bad shout against Burnley but a change to an unfamiliar formation could make the changes in personnel even more of a risk.

The problem is, he needs to win by 2 goals just to make it acceptable. Theory there being a close 1-0 or 2-1 and he’s got lucky. A win by 2 and it’s fair and average for 2nd playing 1 from bottom. For it to be a masterstroke he needs a 3 goal win minimum. That’s the fickle nature of the fandom/ media of today’s game, the question is. does a team without your starting wingbacks and starting front 3 in a system that relies on your wingbacks and interchanging front 3 have the goals or experience to get you that win.

I’ll let you know in a couple of hours. I hope so.

thought the same Agger, but it has made me nervous, we can't afford to drop points and give City too much of a lead .

YIKES! the negative energy from some on this thread is a sight to behold. Good thing the team did not give up before a ball was kicked like many on here did. Also, the players who came into the team today, did us proud IMO, and hopefully, they can take some credit from this game.

Bottom line is that you have to rotate the team in this period and like it or not, you're going to have to trust the manager and the team he picked. Pep made changed to his lineup vs Watford and it nearly cost him. Here, we were the better team from minute one till the end with Keita bossing it and Matip defending high balls and bullying the rugby strikers Wood and Barnes. Hopefully he can kick on from here.

Also, massive props to Origi, Moreno, Milner and in fact, every player that played today cos they all had a hand in this precious victory even THO, the ref spotted Burnley one goal cos Wood was offside when the ball came to him first off the first header.

How refreshing to read the confidence so many Liverpool supporters have in our manager and our playing squad. Here’s a tip - why not wait until the match is over before criticising the team selection and performance? Jeez!

29.) 06 Dec 2018
06 Dec 2018 13:07:23
Yeah, us supporters shouldn't be entitled to our opinions. Down with fan enjoyment or interest.

I think the thread was fair and balanced. A lot of people shocked at the managers decisions but general consensus was let's wait and see. Clearly now (after result) it was a masterstroke to rest key players, well done Klopp.

As for those saying that people should keep their opinions to themselves until after the match, I don't think they have grasped the concept of the discussion forum that they are on.

30.) 06 Dec 2018
06 Dec 2018 19:40:51
Sorry BUT I disagree, Beckers. This is about whether you trust the manager to do the right thing and make the right decisions and based on the comments on this thread (if you bothered to read them) people had thrown in the towel before a ball was kicked. You simply can't pick your best team every time and that is a fact so why moan about it when changes are made as if people did not know it would happen during the loaded festive period? Klopp and the staff probably already planned to pick this team before the Everton game. That is my issue here.

What were we expecting? That Klopp not make changes? Or that we did not know he would make the changes? Even Burnley made FIVE changes so what is all the fuss about?

Our boys (changes notwithstanding) were the better team from start to finish and their goal was OFFSIDE (first shot on target for them in the game) and we came back in the game, never panicked and finished them off. Job done. People are free to post whatever they want BUT should not be mad when others disagree and respond accordingly.
