Thank Tris. I'm still made up that we got him, when I was reconciling myself to a season of Butland and/ or Migs.

Him, VVD and Joe are forming a formidable back spine.

{Ed001's Note - he is outstanding, his work with the rest of the defence has made a huge improvement to it. At the end of last season it still felt like the team were ropey when defending, this season with him at the back it feels solid.}

I Love Alisson! I do not believe there was a better keeper in the world we could have got in the summer. His role in the opening goal against Fulham was so crucial (even if the ball was moving) it was his quick thinking which created the goal.

{Ed001's Note - I am with you, I said for a long time that he would be the one I would go for over anyone.}

I remember in the summer somebody, I can't remember who it was on here but they'd said something on the lines of him being terrible, they were basing their stats on a few WC games and the games Liverpool played Roma and this person had said Oblak or Alisson? and that it's a no brainer, it had to be Oblak if we're to go for a top keeper, hmmm? I don't think so somehow. I like Oblak but he's no Alisson imo. Oblak wouldn't fit our system, Alisson was perfect for it and the 7 clean sheets so far are proving this.

People may call me daft but I think he's THE best keeper in the world right now and I see him only improving. A GK like that is what we've needed for bloody years! we've got him and we're laughing.

Great read as always Ed, cheers mate.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate. I remember a lot of people disagreeing with me about Alisson because of those games mate. I took a lot of abuse which has all vanished now he is showing how good he is.}

23 Nov 2018 10:14:37
I remember it well Ed and as I've always said, you can't judge a player on a few performances/ the odd YouTube video. I'm still to this day delighted he's with us as much as the day he signed because I didn't believe we'd pull it off! If memory serves me right, even when we signed him we still had some negative posters about it, where are they now? I had it coming from all directions from friends of mine, saying how he'd be useless in this league etc, it's so satisfying to be right (for once) ;) .

{Ed001's Note - make the most of it mate, it will probably never happen again you being right!}

5.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 10:24:44
Ed absolutely spot on also Salah. Looking at out defence I have to pinch myself sometimes. once the forwards start ticking we will push citeh. Although, they do look impressive. Have a good day all. Stu.

6.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 10:27:14
Good profile ed. I'm not getting carried away on alisson just yet, he's done well but I think he needs more time to settle in before we judge him. I think it would help alisson if we got rid of mings and karius and signed a new keeper. Someone who would push him for his starting spot and make him keep his standards up.

{Ed001's Note - that is not the way it works with keepers. What we need is a genuine back up keeper and just leave Alisson to be number one for the long term.}

7.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 10:34:28
He’s class ed, great profile. Let’s hope our training doesn’t mess him up too much, or have they sorted that out? Especially like the point that he gets on the backs of players. That will serve vvd really well.

{Ed001's Note - it does seem to have improved, but that is the major worry is that keepers don't tend to improve at the club as a rule.}

8.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 10:39:24
The thing with goalkeeping is that it is a thankless job. People always remember the mistakes but cannot see the good in most cases. He has had a couple of hairy moments but i put that down to acclimatising to the club and league. If you just pay attention to him though, how big he makes himself in one on ones, how comfortable he is in distribution, how decisive he is in commanding his area and how confident all 4 defenders in front of him look, his impact is very clear to see. He is never going to get the headlines like De Gea because we very rarely play defensive football and sit on a lead.

9.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 10:39:56
I am convinced that, as mighty as van Dijk is and as superb as he has been overall since joining us, Alisson is the real reason our defence looks so settled.
What is your take, Ed?

{Ed001's Note - I am in full agreement. We still looked nervous and shipped a lot of goals at times last season due to falling apart when having to defend. Now we get forced back and can just pick them off on the counter, very rarely does it feel like we are in trouble.}

10.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 10:59:31
Agree what your saying that he doesn't seem to be repeating his mistakes which is so important. i do get nervous when he is being closed down though, but maybe that's just because what we have been used to over the years with migs!

i do think he has made a few mistakes, it does stick in your head because he is a keeper. Leicesters goal, probably could do better with red stars second, was a bit rash with Arsenal goal. these are

but despite him being inexperienced and settling into a new team we have seen his quality and his distribution. a massive improvement and hope to see more from him. but it is difficult to see his shotstopping ability as he barely gets tested. Great review ed thanks.

{Ed001's Note - if you had seen Grobs play, you would soon stop worrying about Alisson!}

11.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 11:12:18
I probably am wrong, but I think it was Walter, not sure. He liked Oblak and Butland far more than Alisson. We all have our opinions. 🙃.

12.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 11:41:06
Great write up Ed loved it mate. Ed025 thinks differantly I no lol but he is top class. World class.

{Ed001's Note - yes but Ed025 doesn't actually sit and watch footage over and over of the players to see what they provide. Plus he thinks Richarlison is world class, so his judgement is dubious at best.}

13.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 12:31:26
I’ve been really critical of our defence but what a difference a solid keeper makes? Couple that with VVD and the emergence of Gomez, what a difference!

I also think Lovren has really improved playing alongside VVD.

14.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 12:41:10
When I play for my college team I try to imitate him! Though my distribution is pretty bad Im learning all the time! Got the nickname becker now for sweeping up a lot! love him really! And I think he will stay with us for a long time as south americans usually tend to move to either Barcelona or madrid but now both of them have goalies around alissons age so they won't come for him. YAY ED01!We got the best goalie available! Courtois over AB1?HAHAHA.

15.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 12:52:19
My only dissapointment is that he is going to revert to no.1 jersey than stay with no.13!I kinda took it already. Hopefully he will change it for next season and not in jan!

16.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 13:10:31
He's amazing. Though I don't think he will ever become as lauded as De Gea because hopefully he won't have to bail us put twice each week like De Gea has to with Utd. It's a good thing!

17.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 13:20:35
Great review as always thanks Ed, love reading them. Was wondering if you could do one on Roberto Baggio whenever you have the time please, thought he was a wonderful player. Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - I will do that when I do his legend article mate.}

18.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 13:25:52
Fantastic cheers Ed001, looking forward to reading it. Really appreciate all the work that goes into this site!

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, it will be a while before I get round to it though sorry.}

19.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 13:32:26
No worries at all, I’ve been meaning to ask for a while now myself anyway so don’t mind the wait.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate. I would never have missed him out of a list of legends though, he is one of my favourites.}

20.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 13:45:21
He is one of my favorurites too, my favourite Italian footballer. It was that goal he scored in the 1990 World Cup against Czechoslovakia that started it all for me and I was only 6. Loved watchiing him then on Football Italia on Channel 4, back when the Serie A was the league to watch.

{Ed001's Note - Sundays have never been the same without Football Italia.}

21.) 23 Nov 2018

Those were the days, highlights show on a Saturday morning and a live game on Sunday.

22.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 14:04:08
Hahahaha Ed the only thing I'll be right with again is us winning the league this season, other than that, you aren't wrong mate lol! I make predictions and they're always bloody wrong! I'm glad I'm not a betting man put it that way.

{Ed001's Note - I hope you are right with that prediction mate.}

23.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 14:39:04
Fantastic write up Ed, looks to be the best Liverpool goalie in my lifetime. Plus we've got him at a great stage in his career.

{Ed001's Note - agreed mate.}

24.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 15:21:56
youve mentioned richarlison ed, wouldn't mind seeing one of him if he isn't on the list already? i don't get to see much of the blues so would like to see what all the raving is about?

{Ed001's Note - I did do one last season, but it needs updating as I forgot to include his tendency to dive, which has become even more prominent this season.}

25.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 15:45:45
Allison is a leader and a commanding presence along with Van dijk. When it was Mignolet, Lovren and Matip there were no leaders or communicators, that is a disaster for a defence.
Spot on Ed01 regarding his distribution, a ball playing keeper is a major asset, no hit and hope with him.
He has made the odd mistake but I reckon he is adjusting to a new league and will be fine. I feel like we can win 1 or 2-0 now. We can't expect to score 3 or 4 every game.

26.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 20:49:22
I think he’s an absolutely cracking keeper.
Like Ed001 my confidence levels in our defence have shot up after Alisson’s arrival, to the extent that I’m almost in disbelief on the rare occasions he gets beaten.
Again very early days but I’d agree he looks like Liverpool’s best goalie since Grobelaar.

27.) 23 Nov 2018
23 Nov 2018 23:49:28
What has alisson actually done so far to receive all this gushing, sorry? I don't think he's had to make one really good save yet, not that goalkeepers should be judged how good they are based on that. I agree he is very good with his feet and he does seem to have learnt from the Leicester incident, which is a positive, to show that he can learn from his mistakes and areas to improve. But I think he's been lucky a few times to not concede from errors he's made. One thing I'm disappointed by is his tendency to punch crosses instead of catch.

28.) 24 Nov 2018
24 Nov 2018 08:31:48
NotInTheKnow - well done on not noticing the significant improvement in our all round defensive play which has been enhanced by players having a keeper behind then that they know they can trust. Note where we are in the league compared to the same stage last season when we still had the error-strewn Mignolet in goal at this point.

Great read, Ed. Allison is the real deal and his influence on our as a whole, is palpable. He is everything you would want in a GK. His basic fundamentals are sound and superb. His upside as well is tremendous and his weak points are so few that he will only get better as time goes on cos as you said, he is still young at 25/ 26 which is like being 21 in GK years.

Klopp won trophies and leagues with an average GK in Roman Wiedenfeller at BVB, who is light years behind Allison. The hope is that Klopp can win the PL with Allison.
