Think it was Ed001 that said it but City are the kings of the cynical foul, always breaking up attacks before they get going and get away without bookings for it most of the time too.

{Ed025's Note - you need to concentrate on your own team squizza and not look for reasons why city are not only champions but a delight to watch, they foul no more than any other team mate and you can make up as many conspiracy theories as you want but it wont change the fact that not only are they entertaining but have a great work ethic and deserve respect..

Ed25, two things can be true at the same time, as you know. It can be true that City are brilliant to watch and do a tonne of work off the ball as soon as they lose it. It is also true that they commit a lot of cynical, counter-attack killing fouls with Fernadinho as the culprit. Ed01 had mentioned this some time last season and I had not noticed it before hand. Then, I started checking that out and found that he was right. At Anfield, Fernandinho elbowed Mane in the neck BUT made it look like he was protecting himself. He did it today again vs Spurs where he was targeting Lamela AL game long. Just my opinion, man.

{Ed025's Note - suizza said the same brover...can you see the common denominator here?...its known as the green eye of the little yellow god mate, even if it were true (which its not) i would be very happy for one of my players to do whatever it takes to win, thats called a winning mentality my friend..

To be fair to brover it is true Ed but firmino does it for us as well, they are far from the only team that look to kill breaks before they start.

{Ed001's Note - it is not the same thing, Citeh do it as a policy, it is not a press. Pep sends out his team to deliberately stop the opponent from breaking on his team. It is an instruction he gives. To be fair to Pep, it is very much the same for most Spanish teams and a very Spanish attitude, they think cheating is 'clever play' so long as you get away with it. Even if it means putting in a bunch of ringers in the Paralympics, the Spanish attitude is that it is only a problem if you get caught.

As for Ed025, ignore him, he is clearly on the wind up here if he doesn't see how City play and operate. Mind he could just be blind because he seems to think Marco Silva is a good manager, so what does he know? ;-)}

fernandinho was at it big time when we played City at home, Martin Atkinson totally bottled it.

Anyone else remember in 2013/14 when the Everton fans celebrated city's goals against them. Now there's a conspiracy.

Certainly fernandinho should have been booked for the challenge on Lamela, the second cynical foul he made in a 5 min period. I believe luck evens out throughout the season so they will get their fair share of poor decisions against them too. 👍.

Of course they do. They're one of the worst for it. Klopp genuinely likes to play fair which makes me proud. Not saying we are perfect but less cynical than city.

Why are cynical fouls unfair? Is it like stealing 5-10 yards every throw-in? That gm vs palac when we drew 3-3 in the title race, I was screaming at our players to bring down their counter before even halfway. Ya just need to know to do it. I've got no problems with it, altho I acknowledge a cynical fouls may look different to what I'm thinking of.

{Ed025's Note - absolutely faith some on here have "a holier than thou" attitude that really makes me chuckle, can any of you say that if an attacker was through on goal and you need the points to win the league that you would not want one of your defenders to put him "up in the air like the germans" ?...of course you would, all is fair in love and war..and football, so come on guys lets hear from you liars who would not want a cynical foul when necessary..

They are not unfair Faith but doing it the amount of times Fernandinho does it should produce more yellow cards. He should’ve had at least 3 yellow cards at Anfield.
Every team will use cynical fouls to a point but City actually use it as a tactic and probably their main defensive strategy. We saw last night with the Kane and Lamela chances what can happen if you beat it and get at their back 4.

Ed025, 26 May 1989, last game of the old First Division season 1988/ 89, Liverpool v Arsenal at Anfield, title decider, Liverpool can afford to lose by 1 goal and still win the title, Arsenal need to win by 2 goals to win the title. It’s 1-0 to Arsenal going into stoppage time. The Arsenal midfielder Michael Thomas is running clean through on goal through the middle of the pitch. I am in the Kop and you bet I am screaming at someone - anyone - to jump on his back and stop him before he gets into the penalty area. Nobody did and the rest is (painful ) history.

Professional or cynical fouls? Yes please.

{Ed025's Note - i would be exactly the same WW, sometimes needs must mate and living in la la land is fine but when it comes to the crunch every supporter would (or should) think the same, call it what you will..gamesmanship, cynical or downright cheating but its a brave man who would not want exactly what you wanted in 1989..

Ed25, I think Ed01 responded to you correctly BUT I guess he's a hater too, right? Also, all may be fair in love and war BUT the last time I checked, this is sport and NOT war so that makes very little sense, IMO. As for your scenario of whether I would cynically foul a striker going on goal in a game where we lose the league if he scores, I agree I would as they say, "take one for the team" and tackle him. See? No holier than thou stuff here mate. I'm just being honest. Like I always say, several things can be correct at the same time.

{Ed025's Note - im not saying you are haters brover...a little jealous yes, when stoke were kicking 10 bells out of everyone i never heard too many complaints mate, but when its a title rival it seems the goalpost,s move, your right about several things can be right at the same time though..

I'm not even sure why this is a "thing" to discuss. is it just the aesthetics and generally feeling that it seems like City get away with things? Is that then putting us at an unfair disadvantage?

anyways, teams need guys like fernandinho who can bust the game up. maybe he isn't the best player in that position, but the point is that kind of player is key in fluid teams like city and ours. can't always be attack and attack, ya need to get down and dirty sometimes. It ain't going to be tiki-taka all season long!

{Ed025's Note - its all about winning faith and whatever it takes to get the job done, its alright having these ideals about playing fair and doing the right thing in the name of sport but this is the real world mate, as graeme souness (one of, if not the greatest player you have ever had once said)..." show me a good loser..and ill show you a loser, ."..never a truer word said..
