Feels like a blessing in disguise.

Shakiri and sturridge were really good.

We need robertson and vvd in the team as a must.

Thought minoglet played well too.

Too right Barry mate, bring Saturday on.

Moreno was crap, every time Clyne got the ball we slowed down. Matip was like Matip of old. Fabinho took time to adjust but was pretty anonymous. Taken our chances and we would have won, but it’s good to know Shaqiri and Sturridge can come in when needed and our midfield is basically rotatable.
I’d get an experienced fullback who can cover each side, as any injury to one of them and I’d be worried! I know it’s most of their first appearances, but the rest of the team is so strong now, it shouldn’t be let down by them.

Agreed Firmane. Moreno in particular was a liability this evening but none of our defence filled me with confidence. Thought Fabinho was okay for his first start tho tbf.

On we go to the weekend when I am very confident we will take a massive 3 points.

I don't understand why their first goal stood? It was offside. or it wasnt?

{Ed002's Note - The player who played the ball was on side.}

Firmane, I didn't see the match, but I agree with you regarding getting cover for the back line. My opinion is that we are a little light there in quality. It worries me if anything happens to Robertson especially.

I thought Shaqiri had a decent game but disagree with Ravi about sturridge, thought he slowed the play down when he had the ball, his touch was off this evening, he offers little movement and his work rate wasn’t on a par with his levels in the PSG game.
Lovren and Matip hardly won a header against Morata which is a worry, I know they are both only just returning from injury but they were both out battled throughout the match.

When the free kick was taken Barkley’s left leg was in an offside position, given that Barkley then headed the ball at Mignolet that makes him offside. It’s one of those where normally you would say it’s so tight you can’t blame the officials but they were using VAR, I thought it was offside when I saw the pictures and I still think it was. It just goes to show after last season farcical VAR experiment that English officials still can’t use it properly. Great goal by Hazard though, deserved to win any game.

{Ed002's Note - Embarrassingly bitter.}

In fairness I thought Clyne played okay? Better at defending than attacking, taa is much better. He kept the ball well under pressure and didn't give the ball away.

Moreno on the other hand was piss poor. I like the lad, he is a tryer, but he is not at our level. Nowhere near. Robbo and van Duke would ha ve closed down hazard before he could shoot. Alisson would have parried the first goal out of danger. Migs is crap too. Sorry to say.

Chelsea played a strong team, no youngsters, all the big boys. Liverpool played with half of the reserve team.

Shaqiri was a revelation, I think he could end up our best player. So skillful. He is way too good to be playing for relegation fodder Stoke.

Sturridge scored again. Scores every game he plays. I loved the shot that hit the bar. Classic Danny sturridge. Shot out of nowhere, no pull back of his leg, he just sort of digs at it. If I were manager I think it would be a hard decision to pick Bobby or Danny. Bobby probably the better player, although ds on his day is special, but ds is potent atm, he is FIT! and he scores every game, he constantly looked dangerous.

{Ed002's Note - I think you will find both sides started only a couple of players or so who will start at the weekend. It is pitiful that you grasp at straws saying Chelsea played all of the “big boys”. There is something so stupid about this nonsense.}

Sorry I’m not falling for your embarrassing attempt at a wind up when I make a perfectly reasoned argument and praise an opposing player.

13.) 27 Sep 2018

I agree Kramer. Offside is offside whether it’s his big toe or his whole body it’s still offside.
We have an opportunity with VAR to get those decisions 100% correct every time. It’s not a case of ‘clear and obvious’ when it comes to offside. It’s black and white and when you freeze the play as the ball is played his leg and his torso are clearly ahead of the last defender, offside.

What is also clear is that our officials aren’t competent enough to use VAR correctly so I hope it doesn’t come into the premier league but I know it will unfortunately.
Anyway I’m bored talking about it now that’s the last I’m saying on the matter, on to Saturday.

I'm only saying Chelsea didn't face the three musketeers and they will have to soon.

I'm gutted. Not as much as if it was the league we are still TOP OF THE LEAGUE. And I'm looking for positives, rather than just focusing on the negatives. We brought van dijk, Alison and Robertson for a reason. Cos that defence is poor. Lovren the best defender in the world, he is not a leader, he is better with vvd and moreno looks like a competition winner at times! He is all over the place and way too rash. Hazard attacked that left on purpose of course.

And it was offside. That's just a fact. The poo units are talking about, the refs will be talking about and of course we are talking about it. It gave Chelsea a way back into the game. And Keita didn't foul moses either, he got the ball. The ref did seem to have blue eyes.

But well played Chelsea. Not many teams come here and win. They played okay and it was an exciting game. I'm looking forward to the next one because we will field a stronger team. And I think we will take them. Not that special, well organised but 3asily ruffled. Hazard is the danger but the big man will deal with him.

Alsp thought fab was a step behind the pace at times. Great to see him playing but you can see he is shocked by the speed of the game. He grew into it and he does look pretty hard.

Can’t win them all. If I had to pick either this game or the next to loose, then this would be my choice. Chin up guys, we have a league to win 👍.

Firmane, that is such a good point mate. Imagine if robbo got injured! We wouldn't win the league with moreno. He is awful. Sorry but who the fudge bought him?!

Would have won the Europe league if not for moreno. Sorry alby. I like his character and he could be an exciting full back for someone like Brighton or Palace but he just isn't at the level needed to win titles.

Do you know any players who can play both rb and lb? Who may be available? We have milner of course. It is amazing that such a good player was at lb for the team. Really like milly.

There was talk of liverpool signing a new cb in the summer. I thought it was a stupid story and we have loads of cbs. The only ones I trust are gomez and van dijk. Lovren isn't title winning material. Look, we collapsed again. Like we used to before we signed vvd and Alison. And robbo and Trent coming through. With gomez fit and playing regularly it is really a completey new defence. Our old defence matip, Lovren, Clyne and moreno and migs are useless. I like Lovren but he has been here years and never quite lived up to expectations. It always seems like he is getting there and then he has games like today. He will never be consistent. We need to look for some new cbs. Get rid of Lovren, matip and moreno. I think Clyne is good enough for our squad but alby isnt. I understand klopp interest in tarkowski. Defence are meant to stop goals. Those boys who played today ALWAYS collapse.

I'm glad we have less games now getting in the way of winning the league.

We wasted chances and got undone by a moment of pure quality from a truly fantastic player. There’s no shame in that. We can’t win every game!

20.) 27 Sep 2018
27 Sep 2018 08:04:21
It looked like they initially called a throw in instead of a foul, which was a bit confusing. Although I don't think there was much in it, we've all seen them given if the studs are up, even if it was soft.

The offside call, or lack of it, it was tight and you could only really see Barkley's leg if you zoomed it right in, I don't know if VAR officials can do that or not tbf? The interfering with play part of the rule is what seems too open to interpretation, there were three players offside at that point, they all made runs for the ball, is that not interfering with play, its dragging defenders with them? Maybe I've just got my red tinted specs on.

Ed01/ Ed025 what was your take on it?

{Ed001's Note - they can see any angle or zoom they want and, as usual, they messed it up. Said from the start the mistake with VAR is putting it in the hands of incompetents busy covering up for their fellow incompetents.}

21.) 27 Sep 2018
27 Sep 2018 08:24:51
Thanks for the quick reply Ed01, that's a shame to hear, because if they've seen the same image we all have, then it's clearly offside. Would it be too much to ask them to submit a report after the game for every use of VAR why it was/ wasn't given? Just some we can actually see their reasoning, because like you suggest it's practically collusion to cover ref mistakes at this point.

{Ed001's Note - they will just make up a interpretation again.}

22.) 27 Sep 2018
27 Sep 2018 10:51:17
The offside no call was not the reason we lost the match though. Wasted opportunities were, in my opinion. Great teams overcome poor officiating, again just my opinion.

{Ed001's Note - agreed, but that does not mean they should be excused for making the wrong call with VAR. It is acceptable without it, but there is no point in spending tens of millions of pounds on something that is no more use than the officials on the pitch.}

I know what you mean about Clyne salah but tbf he has looked better this season since coming back from injury. A year or two ago I would have agreed whole heartedly.

But, football is about the here and now and in pre season and in the games he has played this season he has been okay. I don't think he has made a mistake. Clearly Trent is the 1st choice but you need a back up player and I think Clyne is good enough to play that role.

First out of the door is moreno for me. Followed by matip and migs. Lovren is good enough for back up I guess. That whole defence was shocking before we signed virgil and robbo, Alison. We used to score 4 goals and concede 3 but our attack is not so rampant this season, our defence needs to be solid. Klopp can improve players and I think clyne has improved. Good enough for back up imo.

27 Sep 2018 20:13:50
I agree with you as well, Stone BUT the Ed is correct. We should have been done with them WAY before even Hazard came on BUT this does not excuse the officials that could not see that Morata was a full yard offside when the ball is played and normally, the play is blown dead.

Example vs Spurs. Eriksen played in a similar free kick with Kane being in the same position as Morata and like Morata, Kane did not play the ball. Alderweireld came in behind him and headed wide BUT the play was blown dead for offside as soon as the ball was played. Why? Cos Kane is affecting the play as the ball was played. The same thing happened here and Friend should have used VAR but he chose not to cos he is as pompous as the other crap refs. in the PL who will always be there to make up new rules for him when he messes up.

As Ed said, VAR may be a great idea BUT if you have proven incompetent officials running it, it will always fail which is strange cos in other leagues like Germany where they by and large, don't have this problem.
