I think the current squad defensively and in attack is better than the 08/ 09 team but the midfield in 08/ 09 is better than the current one.

Im not so sure, the midfield in 08/ 09 consisted of 3 extremely good individual players.

The midfield we have now is a team of Not so obviously outstanding players but who are yielding the same results and work very well as a unit.

Milner (as Ed01 mentioned) has been one of the players of the season so far up there with Van Dijk, Mane, Hazard, Aguero and Moura.
Wijnaldum has come on leaps and bounds from where he was last season. Its like we have a new signing in midfield, which is ironic because we actually have 2 new singings in midfield.
Henderson seems so far to have shaken off his injury problems and is playing more consistently. He will always have his critics but as a little example of what he brings, in the 6 league games he has played in, we have not conceded a goal whilst he was on the pitch.

Then you have the other midfielders who aren't even getting into this team at the moment. Going off the last game Shaqiri seems suited to a "No.10" role, and another set piece taker to add to the mix. Big things are expected of Keita and rightly so, the guy looks class and we have seen very little of him so far, Lallana we know is a great player and will bring a different edge to the team and of course there is Fabinho who is being intergrated slowly and Oxlade to come back from injury eventually.

I don't think our squad has had this much depth in quality ever.

You lost me when you said Lallana is a great player Noshbag, the only edge he brings is to slow everything down. No place for him near the match day squads this season, even when fit.
