Hope you're doing well, Ed001; I had a question for you, if you don't mind. I've been wondering as to why the club let Karius go and kept Mignolet, when in my opinion it should have been the other way around? It seems the better goalkeeper was let go. If you look at their performances, Karius was equal to, if not better, in all areas with the exception of saving penalties. Mignolet has clearly had more klangers in games than Karius, over the years. I accept that Karius's mistakes in the CL Final were colossal, but after all, it was ony one game and, by far, his worst ever for us. Was it a financial decision (we didn't exactly get a windfall profit by letting Karius go)? Or was it for footballing reasons? Did Karius agitate more than Mignolet for a move? I've read Ed002 stating that Karius's position was "no longer tenable" some time back, and was wondering if you could elaborate more, if, of course, you know the reasons. Thanks, in advance.

{Ed001's Note - because that was the only reasonable offer made.}

Okay, Ed001, thanks for the reply. I'm kind of surprised that Klopp let "his man go" (he bought Karius), whereas Mignolet (who was already there when Klopp arrived) was kept. There was talk of offers for Mignolet also, but I guess nothing came of those.

{Ed001's Note - nothing of worth for Migs, and Karius needed to leave more desperately.}

Hi ArAy1969

The way it is getting reported is different.

Klopp comes across very decent in his press conf but at the end of the day he is no different and is very avg when it comes to man management. Goal keeping situation is a very valid example of one.

On another note, good to see Salah up and running after last few weeks.

Cheers.

Sami, Klopp is average at man-management? Do some research, man cos none of that is true. His man-management is what has led us to this point. His ability to improve players and keep them hungry and on their toes as well as being able coax great performances out of his players (limited ability or not), is one of his hallmarks and calling cards.

You simply cannot achieve all that he has achieved in his career, taking weaker clubs/ players and making them better, stronger and winning things with them (with very low budgets till LFC), without his man-management ability which he is greatly respected for. Now did he do a good job with the GK situation? HECK NO! He, messed up big time. But to say that he is average at man-management cos he messed up once in this case, is myopic and of course, patently false if you take a hard look at his body of work. Again, do some research.

Thanks for the reply Sami, but I will have to disagree with you, to put it mildly. I think Jurgen Klopp is the right man for the right job at the right time. The reason I asked the question was to see if there was anything Ed001 knew from behind the scenes which hadn't already been shared through media. And even though Ed001 didn't mention it specifically, it's clear that it was a financial thing and nothing to do with man management. A good enough offer was made for Karius and he was let go. A good enough offer was not made for Mignolet, so he is kept for now.

The goalkeeping situation is fine. A lot was made of him saying ‘x’ is my number one then changing his mind when that player lost form but isn’t that what we want?
You wouldn’t say ‘Benteke is my striker’ then when he doesn’t score a single open play goal since January just keep playing him would you? Unless you were really stupid!

Spot on, Bobby. In fact, I read somewhere that Klopp wanted Alisson in the Jan. window but clearly, that would not happen. This was after he made Karius no. 1. He also before that, kept saying Migs was his no. 1, knowing full well that he was useless and that Karius would get the shirt eventually so I see your point there.

ArAy1969, maybe cos Migs is completely useless. After all would you make a suitable offer for Migs as things stand right now? Personally, I would cancel his contract, pay him off and be done with it. Karius was always better than him, IMO and he to some extent proved that last season as he contributed to us currently, having the best defence in the PL since January.

ArAy karius was never going to accept being 2nd fiddle to Allison.

He made it absolutely clear when we bought Allison, he wasn't happy at all and even had a dig at klopp.
