Great read, thank you ED.

As much as it is a mess for Denmark, it must be a dream come true to those in the 3rd and 4th tier, as well as the futsal team. Bet they could never imagine playing for their National Team.

Have a nice day.

{Ed001's Note - it is insane mate.}

Hi ed001, nice write up. If you know, where did this idea of playing games in USA come about from? they in USA don't even call it football! Who was stupid enough to ask teams from spain to play there? and do they expect more sponsorship or are just looking at promoting the sport in USA. Come what may they'd still call it soccer. The country plays football with hands!

{Ed001's Note - Steve Ross, owner of Miami Dolphins, came up with the idea.}

Ever since I’ve watched football, the away goal rule in European competition has always been in place.
It used to be that the away side kept things tight, and a narrow loss to take home for a second leg was very acceptable.
The mentality was that home side went for it.
But now this suggests the opposite, so is it more of a mentality change than a rule weakness?
The first leg is so crucial, home or away, and that defines the tie.
I like the away goal rule personally.

Akrubbish, Why so much hate towards USA?

You've made yourself look a wee bit silly, Do some research into why these sports have the names they do, both are correct its just the names evolving over years and years.

You know Rugby Union in England? Its governing body is the RFU - Rugby Football Union.

The Denmark situation is a mess, surely this will have a greater impact on wider teams as I reckon a few of those players will have clauses about being called up to the national team.

Clubs will have to pay out because the main players aren’t playing.

No hate there just saying it is a ridiculous idea if it were for monies which unfortunately USA is always associated with. You cannot rob the local fan of seeing their team play in there local ground.

i know the origination of word. Soccer infact came from England and was adopted by USA to use as a differentiation from other kinds of football they have. However the way American friends act all confused when two European guys talk of football over drinks only to barge in and go oh you meant soccer lead to the premise of the above comment. Sorry that was a personal agenda there.

All in all except for monies (which of course undermines everything) there is no point in playing matches in USA.
Again nothing against the USA . LFC is riding on that american money itself so i can hardly complain. But that is just not where the worlds most played sport should go.

{Ed002's Note - The ignorance abounds.}

4 managers already? What's going on in Bradford?

Thanks again Ed. Have a great day.

{Ed001's Note - an owner who is clueless and impatient.}

From my understanding football is football.

The word originated in England and is used for 2 sorts- one in which the ball is carried in hand and passed between players, the other in the floor and with feet.

Both sports originated from the original game of “mob football” after gentrification of sports by Public Schools, educationalists and religious leaders.

So AK- soccer is most definitely not an English term at all.

{Ed002's Note - Soccer is derived from "association".}

So, was this away goal dismissal put forward by Barcelona by any chance (after losing to Roma last season) or by some other aggrieved 'elite' club looking to give a good excuse as to why they went out of European competition too early? This smacks of power grabbing to me.

I have always been in favour of transfer windows ending before the season starts, as long as it was all together (well as much as it can be with some leagues starting much earlier than others) . 1st of August seems right to me for the major leagues in Europe. Or, at least before the first of the major leagues begins. More bedding in time. No teams bereft of their star man after Madrid decide they need one more galactico because they lost their first match etc. That all sounds good to me (speaking as someone who doesn't support Hammarby or Molde) .

The away goals thing is something completely different, however. This really is a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". At times the away goals rule seems unfair, but only if you have a vested interest or really don't want a particular team to go through. It changes the dynamic of a tie and the thinking of players on the pitch. Without it, there would be far more matches going to extra time and then you have the propensity for injuries increasing and the away travel scenario still becomes a reality, leaving later or what not.

I find it odd - mainly because I like the jeopardy of an away tie, I suppose. Like I said, it smacks to me of the 'elite' clubs trying to force UEFA in to something, yet again, just because they can.

{Ed001's Note - the away goal thing has been wanted out for years, nothing to do with a power grab, most coaches hate it. It is a crap rule that is outdated based on it being a difficult thing to travel thousands of miles back in the 60s.}

USA does tend to have a rebellious streak when it comes to worldly norms.

Call football, soccer. After the term was dropped by the originators. In addition to that play football with hands, with an egg shaped thing.

Flip the light switch in opposite direction.

Ground floor is first floor.

Imperial system of units vs Metric (SI) . Again dropped by the people who came up with it.

I have been living in the states for 5 years now, and am used it. Boy its a culture shock when you first get stateside.

To name a few.

Light switches flip the opposite way? Funny, I've spent ages in America at various points and never even noticed that!
