Question for everyone, which signing or youth player do you really wish it worked out for at Liverpool.

I'd go for Rickie Lambert for senior player, he wasn't the type of player we needed but it was his boyhood dream and it would've been brilliant to see him have a couple of successful seasons with us.

Youth player I'd go with Coady, he was touted as the player to succeed Gerrard but for one reason or another, he kind of stalled at some point and it just didn't happen for him.

Would be interested in Ed01 opinion and anyone elses as well.

{Ed001's Note - totally agree on Lambert but I would go with Suso as the young player

Joe Cole was one for me, it was definitely a mistake to sign him given his injury record but what a signing he could have been.

For young player I agree with Ed of Suso, I also was a big fan of Martin Kelly when he first came through.

I had hoped Morientes worked for us. Youth player can't see past Suso. Happy to see him progressing well at Milan though. But would for us to sign him back.

I would have liked Martin Kelly to have made it with us. I just liked his style and determination. Flanagan would have been a second choice, but after later events, I am happy the club separated itself from such neanderthals.

Balotelli for me. Yeah, yeah i know. Spare me me the ridicule. I always saw him as the next Zlatan

Academy grad for me would be Suso.
I had the highest hopes for Pacheco and Jordan Ibe too.

I know he never really proved himself but I really wanted João Carlos Teixeira to make the big time. Wish Jari Litmanen came to us when he was younger as he really did have fantastic vision.

Danny Ings
Youth player- Jordan Ibe.

Shelvey and rossiter.

Rickie Lambert is a great shout, he’d probably be my choice. Though Ings is another one.

Of the young players, Suso is a good choice because he might well of made it had it not been for poor management. I think I’d go for Jordan Rossiter though, local lad and had it not been for injuries who knows what might have happened.

Cornishmendoitdrekly, Jari Litmanen also had an amazing first touch. I remember him once killing a fast moving pass in mid air, dead in the air and then to the ground in the penalty area. I'd have loved him to have come a couple of years earlier while still in his prime. To his credit though, didn't he play for Finland until he was something like 41?

Youth player, I know it's a current one, but I really wish Ojo had have kicked on more. He reminded me so much of John Barnes.

A youth player in the past, Neil Mellor. Purely for that goal he scored against Arsenal. It would have been great if he showed that quality week in week out.

Litmanen and Suso for me.

Can I bend the rules slightly and pick David Silva? I really wish the DEAL had worked out. I am fairly confident we'd have a few league titles if we'd got that deal done.

Young player has to be a combined trio of Amoo, Ngoo, and N'Gog. No other reason than because it would've been a commentators nightmare.

12.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 18:04:13
Stan Collymore
Lee Jones.

13.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 18:06:10
Mark Kennedy
Pacheco.

Spot on, MK on the commentators' nightmare tip, lol. As for me, it would be Suso as the young player. BR messed that up (shocking, I know) big time. As for a signing that I wished worked out, I would pick Morientes. Had been a HUGE fan of his since his Real Zaragoza days (WAY before his move to RM) . It was just a shame that he maybe came to us a year or two too late. He was a true finisher and very elegant footballer.

D. Cisse - was so excited when we got him. Think he did better than h is remembered for and obviously those leg breaks curtailed his career.

For youth - I hoped Pacheco would turn into something special!

I wish Robbie Keane had had a quick start. Got some confidence and scored some goals. Not sure about him as a person but is Ireland all time top goal scorer and was wicked for spurs.

The youngster? Suso is a good shout. Danny pacheco for me I think.

17.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 19:21:18
Jari Litmanen in his prime and Danny Ayala .

04 Sep 2018 19:44:13
Litmanen is a good one liver_la. I thought he played some good games for us. He was right at the end of his career. Houllier was clever that way, with age comes experience. Gary mac was brilliant for us.

But it meant we never saw the best of Litmanen. Should have signed him 10 years earlier. Had amazing vision and skill.

For me has to be Aquilani. We'd had a great season in 08/ 09 and were massively tipped for the title. Was gutted when Alonso left and was desperate for Aquilani to ease the pain (really didn't happen)

Youth player - Adam Morgan. Scored a lot of goals in the youth team and actually got some first team appearances. Has massively plummeted since then unfortunately.

20.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 20:33:36
Senior player has to be Rickie Lambert - as per the OP. Did you see his face when he first scored for us and ran into the crowd?!

Youth has to be that young guy Coutinho. Shame he didn't stick around into his prime.

21.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 20:34:21
Yeah, good shout randomred.

22.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 20:53:31
Mono Sisdoko
Thought he had massive potential- could have been our Vieira.

23.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 21:33:13
I know it’s a bone of contention but I’m not sure how Rodgers was to blame for Suso’s departure?
I’d agree with the shout for Ibe though, he looked like he was the real deal. Quick, strong.
I’d add Brad Jones too, I thought he could have been a cracking quick left sided player.
It was a real disappointment when both of them left the club.

24.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 21:38:06
Senior - harry kewell
Youngster - ryan babel.

25.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 21:46:13
Or should I say Brad Smith, lol.

26.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 22:06:58
Youngster for me would have to be Suso, for senior I would go for Chris Kirkland, fantastic potential for a young keeper, kept Magnus Hedman on the bench at Coventry. Could have been good for us if he hadn’t been so unlucky with injuries.

27.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 22:15:37
Agree on Harry Kewell without injuries he would of been class!

Youngster has to be Dani Pacheco always hoped he’d make it!

Good thread welsh,

2 players now at different seaside locations

Danny ings- Southampton
Ryan Mcglaughlin- Blackpool

Ryan being the best player I’ve seen playing youth level football since lfc-tv has been available.

YNWA.

04 Sep 2018 22:41:51
For me i wish rob jones could have stayed injury free.

Youngster would be adam morgan. Had hopes of him being the next fowler.

30.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 22:57:18
Anelka for me. Was gutted when we never bought him after his loan deal!
Youngster- Suso is obvious one so much talent and ability. Must admit i liked watching Ibe in the youth teams.

31.) 04 Sep 2018
04 Sep 2018 23:36:58
Robbie Keane.

32.) 05 Sep 2018
05 Sep 2018 00:17:18
Ah this is a really difficult one, the youth player isn't too hard to choose imo, because I agree it has to be Suso, why? because he was capable and deserved his chances, unfortunately he didn't get it, the lad was quality and could've still been here now if he'd of got his chance, it's a real shame, I followed him for quite a while and was gutted he went.

The senior player is the more difficult one because I could probably name 20+ players but I'll go with the most recent to make it easier. Ings, he was just so unlucky but that can happen to any player, unfortunately for Ings it happened to him. His injuries ruined his career with Liverpool and I'm gutted about that, I think if he'd of stayed fit he'd of done really well here.

Good thread :) .

Youth player wise I am still hoping for Harry Wilson and Rhian Brewster to come through, as they are probably the players iv been most hopeful about coming through. Of those that didn’t make it yeah as above Suso is he one I could never fathom why he didn’t play more. Gutted he’s not with us. Senior player wise I was pretty disappointed Aspas did so little when he seemed to have everything we needed, and has gone on to prove he is a good player elsewhere. Shame it didn’t work for him.

34.) 05 Sep 2018
05 Sep 2018 02:30:24
Senior player is Lambert. but I'll pick a forgotten lad for the youngster. Lee Jones back in 92 - had great potential but injury messed up everything for the lad. goes to show what a tightrope these lads walk in professional football.

{Ed001's Note - great potential? I remember watching him as a kid, he wasn't all that. His first touch was poor, he just had pace. Other than that he was exceedingly average. There was never any potential there with him, sadly.}

35.) 05 Sep 2018
05 Sep 2018 03:34:15
Danny Ings
Ryan Babel.

Daniel Agger, I still can't believe we sold him. i know most would say he worked out well and is a club legend. But for me he should have been more. I can't believe he didn't get to work with Klopp at all. It was a personal tragedy when my favorite player was sold. He should have been with us even today.
for youth player like most it has to be Suso.
