Currently on holiday in a town called Javea in Spain. On the beach this morning minding my own business when none other than towering ex Watford centre forward Ross Jenkins sat near me having paid for one of those fancy sun beds with the grass umbrellas that only rich people hire. Ross played in the same team as John Barnes in the 80s and are still great mates. So I couldn't help but over hear Ross saying that John told him at a BBQ the night before at lifelong friends who live nearby in a town called Denia that "Liverpool fans can expect at least one more signing before the summer transfer window shuts in 2019."

Smokescreen?

Wait a minute, the sea in Javea is pushing towards high tide at mid morning so why would anyone be going to the beach when it was just starting to disappear?

And hang just one second, Denia is a small port town which is very densely populated with very few open or green spaces until you reach Santa Paula, so where were these people even hosting their BBQ?!

And hold on just a damn phone, how would you even recognise a player who was of middling importance to a lower league team in the 80s and has had a very limited public profile for over 30 years?!?!

Are you sure this didn't all take place at burger king? Cause I smell a whopper!

(only kidding mate but I think unless Salah's care gets struck by lightning which welds him inside forever, we are done for the window)

Hijkle - your local knowledge is impressive however you should have realised that the sea is always ‘in’ at the beach end of javea and why it is popular with bathers and swimmers a like. Also Denia is less populated towards the bottom of Montgo mountain so BBQs are more common though a fire hazard for sure. Finally, my dad used to take me to Watford games in the 80s and Ross is very tall with a distinctive pony tail so easy to spot.

Finally, as a hint please read the final line as there is a clue you’ve missed. :)

Tbh 1jj, my local knowledge was entirely built from what should have been a day long car trip from Valencia to Alicante that turned into three when our car caught fire in the heat (our fault, we knew the engine was dodgy) not far from Denia and we needed to source a new one. Not much time for beach sadly, did always mean to go back though, I just keep ending up in the wrong corner of Spain now.

I have also now got the joke as well ;)

He means he was in Skeggy and a taxi driver told him all that. He's just embellished it - a little.

Coincidentally I happen to live about 10 miles inland of both Javea and Denia - little village called Orba.

No rumours to report from here.
