I think this odd feeling our season may hinge on Lovren. I am happy with the squad, and Lovren to be fair, and he had proved when he is on his game he can be very good. He just needs to prove it week in week out, we can’t be dropping points every couple of games because he has a brain fart.

I've got to say firmane, I like the skin head. I'm no BNP, complete opposite but I like our centre backs to be hard and scary.

Remember hypia and henchoz, reminds me of van diike and lovren. I believe with the help of van diike, trent and alisson, lovren could be regarded as one of the best in the world.

Hypia and henchoz cost nothing compared to our 100mil cbs. A world class defender, like hypia or van diike can make his partner a better player.

BTW, hypia and henchoz were s##thot, best defence in the league.

You doesn't sound happy to me.

If he's dropping points every 2 weeks then play his back up. What a pointlessly rude thing to say about a CL and WC finalist.

This season, if he is still a starter come the close of the transfer window, will be his best opportunity to play at a consistently good level. He'll have a quality keeper behind him, a quality defender next to him, good players in Trent and Robertson at full back, who can both defend and Fabinho, and to a lesser extent Keita, affording him more protection.

Henchoz? My abiding memory of him is giving penalties away every other game!

Henchoz and Sami formed a brilliant defensive partnership.

I didn’t mean to be rude about him, but getting to finals doesn’t change how he is as a player. My point was kind of that we have addressed so many key areas well, I hope we can rely on him to stay fit and perform, especially against the lower teams.

I was being glib about Henchoz, he was a good servant but he wasn't a great defender, he benefited massively from Hyppia next to him and Hamann ahead. He was only ever a stop gap till Carragher was ready.

From what I remember everyone used to wonder why he got away with so many fouls which could have been pens. I don't think he gave away more pens than any other central defender.

Players like him done their job without much fuss and were more aware of their positioning. Just because he wasn't sliding all over the place doesn't make him a bad defender.

Having Hyypia beside him didn't do any harm also, they were made for us at the time.
