Hey eds really happy with how the squad is shaping I noticed ed2 mention another keeper surely we will find it hard getting someone in to be no2 keeper. Also apart from keeper would you say that is liverpool done buying now as they haven't replaced coutinho but looks as if shaqiri will get a chance in that position . Are they mostly looking on getting the squad numbers down now

Cheers.

Why would Shaqiri get a shot in the midfield when he is a winger? Shaqiri will rotate with the front three.

Jraz I think the op was meaning that Shaqiri played in the 10 slot at the tip of the midfield behind Studge v UTD. Pretty sure he didn't mean play as a DM.

Jraz against utd shaqiri played centrally and we haven’t replaced coutinho so I was merely asking whether he will get a shot in that position or whether we still looking at a CAM to replace coutinho . And I disagree with you saying shaqiri is a winger he is a modern day forward if i've ever seen 1 the lad is very similar to salah stylistically and we know what happened when he was moved more central last season . I think the lad will play in any forward position when needed .

{Ed002's Note - I guess the thing to consider is if Liverpool were to play a front four again (of Mane - Shaqiri - Salah - Firmino) that means the have to play a midfield two, and I guess then it would be a defensive two of perhaps Fabinho and Henderson (4-2-3-1), rather than Fabinho and Keita which then gives a 4-1-1-3-2 formation. I think it unlikely that Klipperty would look to not using Keita if available in most games.}

I don’t see the need for two defensive mids in games against the so called lesser teams at home - Fabinho or hendo will be fine, with Keita creating space and maybe Shaqiri in behind - maybe Sturridge up top and Firmino ten, maybe Keita at ten - we have options!

{Ed002's Note - How many players do you envisage on the field? Or is it back to the 4-1-1-1-3-1 formation?}

I agree ed2 I think we will be 4-3-3 but the point I was trying to get across was we wer supposed to be looking to replace coutinho and on top of that 1 of the eds said we wer after a winger aswell as a coutinho replacement . Has that changed now and will they play the front 4 against the the awkward teams at home who come and park the bus .

{Ed002's Note - You have Shaqirir to fulfil both roles.}

If we play a 2,it'll be Hendo and Fabinho competing to play with Keita. That bloke is so good he could play any of 6,8 or 10 in his sleep. Different level, just put him in det on his own and play 5 attackers. There'd be room for Pulisic then! 😉😉.

Ed01, these are beautiful problems to have. Rather than trying to find players to fill the spots we are trying to find the slots to fit the players.

you are spot on I don’t think we’ve had this kind of squad depth in the premier league era . Let’s hope the problem continues to be that way and not the other.

I think we may end up playing 4-2-3-1 more frequently against the defensive sides this year as a means to break them down, with 4 proper attacking players on the pitch.

Fabinho, Hendo, Keita can all play base of midfield and should provide enough cover with a more settled back 4 and Alisson in goal.

In the no.10 role we have plenty of options from more allrounders like Keita, Lallana, through to proper forwards like Firmino, Shaqiri and Mane able to play there.

Hendo - Keita - Milner is our strongest midfield i believe.
I'm sure (and hope) that we will see this lineup most of the time this upcoming season.
