Morning Eds with our world cup stars on holiday ie Lovern, TAA and Hendo will they be back in time for the West Ham game or will that be a little too soon . Excellent transfer window finally we have a squad capable of doing the club justice, hats off to everyone concerned fans should be grateful for what work has been done and anyone else if they come in now is an added bonus expect loads of outs on loan and permanent deals and I'd
like to wish anyone who does leave all the best in their future careers . I have never been so excited for a season to start but let's not get carried away lads things won't be handed to us Cited, Utd, Spurs, The Gooners and Chelski will all strengthen but I really do think our 1st 11 will be right up there and this time around we will have quality back up on the bench to keep things flowing exciting times fellow reds exciting times but I feel we really need to win something to get the ball really rolling . YNWA.

{Ed001's Note - they will be back in time, but it is whether they will be up to speed or not.}

We should have the players there to cope if they aren't.
Cheers Ed001 much appreciated mate enjoy your weekend.

{Ed001's Note - welcome NSZ, you enjoy yours too.}

I was wondering that, if Trent hendo and Lovren aren’t 100% ready - I know Trent didn’t play much but he is young and don’t want to overplay him - Fabinho or Gomez could be right back with Gini Milner and Keita cm, it whose third choice CB? You’d imagine Matip given vvd is on the left. Be disappointing to start with Matip again!

Why will it be disappointing to start with Matip?
I don't get why "supporters" need to put down or denigrate their own players.

Spot on, NOTSOZIPPY. We should be able to handle their absence at least in the first couple of games (esp. the front 3 will be ready to go) till the get up to speed cos they definitely won't be esp. when you consider how hard Klopp works the boys physically during preseason.

I just don’t think Matip is up to scratch, I am sorry if that upsets you. I feel he is lazy and doesn’t put enough effort in. He’s also quite soft, both tackling and in the air.
To me, if he was passionate about Liverpool that wouldn’t be an issue, he would want to bust a gut getting back, he’s strive to put his head on a ball which is crossed in - but I just don’t see that.
I don’t think I write off too many players, I wasn’t opposed to starting the season with karius. I think Matip can be good enough for us, but as of last season, isn’t putting the effort in to warrant a place.

There's not one player in that whole squad who doesn't put the required effort in. If they didn't, they wouldn't be there. Simple as that. Do you really think Klopp wouldn't notice a lack of effort, either in training or matches?
Can't quite get my head round that accusation!

Flash the red. I wouldn't say it's lack of effort, more that he is simply not good enough. When he plays, his pairing CB always looks uncomfortable since he is always out of position and causes lots of errors. His inability to perform an adequate defensive header and just not being strong enough has caused us problems time and again.

He is very good at playing the ball out the back and for some reason can muster a good attacking header from corners (but yet not defensive headers) .

For me, based on last season I would have Klavan as our third choice CB seeing as he actually did quite good. Yes he has a lack of pace, but he had some very good games against strong physical players which we have struggled against in the past.

I would like to say though, we are all entitled to our opinions, so I would like to think that neither of us is dead right, just more that we are commenting on what we have observed. And hey wouldn't it be boring if we all shared the same views in football ;)

At some point we raved about how good he was today his not passionate enough. The rise and fall can happen so fast. Hope Allison or Nabby don't get the same treatment after a run of bad games or once a higher profile player arrives.

I'd rather play Matip than Klavan. Not because he's better but just because it would mean playing VVD on the right and I don't think he's suited to it. Maybe Nat Phillips will keep his place as VVD's partner.

Exactly. I clearly remember that in his first season with us, he was considered the better player in the Matip-Lovren duo for most of the season. I wonder why he has gone off the rails a bit since then.

ArAy1969, I too, was one of those raving about Matip when he first arrived as he shut down Kane, Vardy and Costa in his first few games BUT in the second half of that season, he fell off particularly after his injury. Matip has been regressing since then. Ed01 said as much at the time BUT I thought he was being harsh until I started watching him closely. Ed01 was spot on.

Matip has now become lazy, careless on the ball, poor aerially (which is mind-numbing as he is 6ft 5 inches), lacks bite in the challenge, slow in tracking back and lacks physicality. Don't know how all this happened to him after a good start at LFC BUT here we are.
