Morning to all
Ed001 I was wondering if you would kindly consider doing a Zvonimir Boban vs Luka Modric article
As you know I am old Ac milan fanatic and loved this player during the 90's
and right now Modric is close to being the best midfielder in the world
but just wondered who is the best ever Midfielder to come from Croatia
out of these two?
loved prosinecki as well but not on the level of these two
Thanks mate and have a good day.

{Ed001's Note - I have added it to the list mate.}

How about Predrag Mijatovic or Dejan Savicevic v Pavel Nedved.
I suppose Savicevic and Nedved played similar roles as AM, whereas Mijatovic was a striker.

{Ed001's Note - added that to the list.}

As always thank you very much mate.

{Ed001's Note - always glad to have new ideas.}

All 3 of the players I mention were incredible. It got me thinking about forgotten players who would be world stars today. Another forgotten soul, who had his career blighted by injury, but I always had admiration for, was ivan de la Pena. He could pass like Xavi Alonso, but never really got going at Barcelona or Lazio.

Ivan Zamorano, Ed?

{Ed001's Note - he was already in the list but I have added Ivan de la Pena.}

Ed001, what about a 4 way?

Gerrard vs Lampard vs Beckham vs Scholes 🤤.

{Ed001's Note - added to the list.}

Dejan Savicevic, what a player! ED001 can't wait for that review mate.

{Ed001's Note - I am looking forward to doing the research on him as I know little about him other than his play.}

Not sure Beckham should be on that list. Fantastic delivered of the ball and made the most of his talents but he didn’t have half the ability of the other three. Lampard again made the most of his talents, Scholes was imo the better technically and Gerrard had the most talent of the three even if he didn’t become the player he could have been.

BBB, I loved De La Pena. First came across him in CM2 in the mid-1990s when he became a go to player for me.

His injuries were such a shame, as he definitely would have won a sackful of caps for Spain without them. A cross between Alonso and David Silva in the few times I saw him play for Espangnol on the telly.

That's why I think it would be a good articke mate. For me, Beckham and Gerrard were miles ahead of Lampard and Scholes technically. But I thought Scholes and Lampard had the best football brains and work ethic.

All 4 are legends and would've walked into any team in the world in their prime.

Yeah ED001 for me he was arguably the best player in the world in the very late 80's, early 90's. If i remember correctly he suffered a lot from injuries. Ask any Milan fan and they just refer to him as il genio.

{Ed001's Note - if only he had been born in Brazil he would have got a lot more credit for his ability.}

Brilliant suggestion for an article Mk, but did I just read that you think Beckham is miles ahead of Scholes for technical ability?
surely you must have that wrong mate
imo scholes and Gerrard are the technical ones and lampard and Beckham made the absolute best of their limited abilities
Even among their peers Beckham is never mentioned above scholes
I think it was iniesta who once said if ever there was a Barcelona player at Man U it is Scholes
for me I might even say scholes runs gerrard very very close and being a liverpool fan I would always pick gerrard but if I was not then probably a tie
Beckham out of the four is the only player to do it in three different top leagues and that is why for me he tops the lost overall as a player out of the aforementioned players.

That's some list you've got now ed mate.

{Ed001's Note - at least I won't run out of work to do any time soon.}

Ed01, you will be impressed with Dejan Savicevic. He was a true magician with a wand of a left foot.

{Ed001's Note - aye he was a fantastic player, but I want to know more about him as a person is what I meant.}

Who should of won he ballon dore if not for the Ronaldo Messi era.

{Ed001's Note - added it to my to do list.}

Depends on what you define as technical ability, Johncrow. For me it is your touch, your ability to turn and run at close control, your striking technique, and your ability to make the ball move in the air.

Gerrard and Beckham were good at that stuff. Scholes and Lampard both had a great shot owed to a world class striking techniqu, but neither could bend a free kick around a wall or turn a player with great footwork. I don't think I ever saw Scholes run with the ball, but that's possibly because he had the intelligence to make the ball do the work. Scholes was the best passer of the 4 for sure because of his vision and his game intelligence. I don't think there is anything technically that he could do with a football that Beckham couldn't do though. He just knew when to do it a bit better.

Ironically, none of them were any good defensively and that is probably why England won nothing with them!

MK fair point mate but I honestly can't ever remember beckham beating a player with skill to me he was a cross and free kick man lol
your point about defensive skill are so true but this is why England needed a better defensive midfielder at the time then Nicky Butt
and owen hargreaves.
it is a pity carrick was not in full force in 2002.

Back in the 90s, I lived in a part of Wallasey that could only receive Welsh telly signals. As a consequence, I could watch S4C's footy programme called Sgorio. The format has changed now, but back then they would have a match on from Spain, Italy and one of the other leagues around Europe. De la Pena, Savicevic and Mijatovic were the 3 players who always stood out, beyond the usualy big name stars of the time.
Amanda Protheroe-Thomas who hosted the show, also stood out, but for other reasons.
