Very happy not see Harry Maguire for liverpool posts on the forum as the guy is like is like tony adams keown Bould rolled into one
just a throwback to your most basic defenders ever.
Anyone with real pace and good movement will finish him

A defender the combination of Adams, Keown and Bould sounds wonderful. I keep reading on here how defenders can’t defend anymore but those 3 certainly could.

Can’t judge anyone on international football, it’s a slower paced game, media will hype him up as the best English defender ever. He is doing a job for England at the minute and that’s all that matters.

Poor concentration etc but he never said he was a bad defender but more he wasnt as focused on that as much as he should be but if he was he would be one of the world's best cb.

As far as i remember, Ed001 has always criticized his effort levels. Everyone knows that physically and technically he is as close to perfect as you get in a centre half.

Can you, therefore, remind me what your opinion of him was, please? It is not in my nature to have a "sly dig". The problem is with any written word they can be misconstrued.

for some reason Maguire reminds me of Robert Molenaar big strong can pass as well but he will get ripped to shreds if a striker like Aubamyang gets hold of him.

Maguire has been superb. He was superb against Salah too this season. Luckily Salah made one excellent turn that rolled him inside out to get the goal.
But as I said, with two 50m defenders next to him, he has had to carry them in the big moments. In this system he is absolutely fantastic and I can’t praise him enough.

I think that's the issue at the moment, Maguire is good in air, but he's not been asked to do much other defending. If we got to the final, and it was France, I'd be tempted to move the three around, so maguire can mark giroud and let someone else take mbappes side - Maguire versus mbappe would be carnage 😅.

Think I first signed up the first year of Liverpool-rumours, when was that? Also, that reminds me of a question I've often pondered: Ed001 what would you say really helped the site to take off and when? Was there a year or a page that acted as a particular catalyst? Only because my own original interest was quite quite narrowly focused on Liverpool, I kinda thought that the other pages were extensions of this one. A brief description of what major ups or downs you've had would be fascinating. :)

{Ed001's Note - I can't remember when we first started having separate sites for specific clubs, but they were initially the Glasgow pair as those fans were just dicks and ruining the site by sending in shedloads of abuse. Then it was Liverpool because LFC fans were swamping the site. The main thing that really saw it take off was the takeover, it was fairly busy anyway, but it went insane when that was ongoing. I think I went about 4 or 5 days without any proper sleep, just snatched naps here and there because it was so busy. At one point we had all the editors editing the site but there were so many posts they reached thousands waiting and it was climbing.}

Amazing Ed01, I, ve been here for 6 years but never realised it originally started in 2001. I know I am stating the obvious Ed, but from your position, have you noticed how fans have become progressively more abusive and critical of players and clubs etc, in recent years, or was it just as bad when you started out in 2001.
There seems to be keyboard warriors everywhere these days.

Thanks for the reply ED01, So disappointing to read about Liverpool fans being the main culprits for dishing out abuse. We really don't help ourselves.
I can understand why ED02 can be quite scathing about Liverpool fans, the latest being the vile abuse of Karius.
EDO01 and ED02 both confirming that Liverpool fans are one of the worst for abuse. My brother got me supporting LFC and always spoke about our fans being the most knowledgable and fair in the land.
What happened to that.

I think it was 2005 we we started having separate site for all team. I remember Ed02 saying that the traffic and question on the orignal site ws like 80% liverpool so Liverpool rumours were the first site created.

Well said, self hating Liverpool fans is something that’s grown into an awful thing. Probably down to football manager addiction 😉Unable to realize things are never black and white. Can’t understand there are human factors at play as well. Recently it appears that your not allowed to say nice things on this site anymore without abuse sent your way and fine spamming of the dislike buttons. Still though, maybe as this season unfolds we might see a little more of the positivity returning. We had a brilliant season last year after expecting so very little. Let’s hope we are presently surprised again.

We have PL footie to judge and he is as overrated as they come. He is big, strong and physical hence, it is only normal that he is imposing in the air.

Apart from that, he is a poor defender with NO pace, stiff hips hence, can't turn hence, can be easily spun (just ask Salah on how he did him for pace), would not cut it in a high defensive line and is poor defending in wide areas, the two latter things that you need to be great at if you wanna play in a Klopp defensive system. Nah, regardless of the fine job he is doing for England (in a slow, deep-lying defensive setup), Maguire is not good enuff to play for LFC as he lacks the tools needed to play the system, tools Lovren and VVD have in abundance.

{Ed001's Note - he is not that slow you know. If you watch him, he just gets caught on his heels a lot as he does not read the game that well. So he ends up having to accelerate after someone who is already off and running making him look slow in comparison.}

Whenever I see Harry maguire I always think "I bet he spends a lot of time unblocking his toilet" and also that I would hate to spend anytime near his arm pit.

We have two of the world's best centre backs in Vvd and lovren. There is no need to think about hm.
